- I've had this team of figures since they came out in 1997 but I haven't had the time to review them. Even now I had to rush the review a little bit. While individually they are alright it's together where this set really shins.
These figures were sold together in an ultra sized box.

that was an impressive set and combiner for its time. Silverbolt/Skywarp is very fragile and suffers from GPS, so if you track this set down check him for breaks and fracture lines.

@@silentassassin47 Gold Plastic Syndrome. In the 80s-90s the gold colored plastic used in by many toy companies would become brittle to the point of being like egg shell. Didn't matter if the toy was sealed in package, the plastic would turn to dust. BeastWars Grimlock, mutant Soundwave, and Fuzor Torca all suffered from GPS to name a few. The range of plastic colors affected was a lite butterscotch to a dark caramel color. Clear plastics also had a high degree of brittleness after prolonged times. Inferno for example is mostly made of clear red plastic and are usually broken or have fracture lines from play.

@@silentassassin47 it sounds like a lot of stuff to worry about, but its not so bad. I would suggest watching a youtube review of an older figure before purchase to see if there are any common issues. 👍

I got this and Tripredicus as for Xmas when I was a kid. I called this guy "Megaboss" instead.

The attack mode of silverbolt remindes me of the falcon zord from mighty morphing power rangers
those were finger misssiles. falcon zord had the wing weapons so dragonzord fits less with silverbolt. dragonzord is still really cool on his own though.

This is one of those "I'm glad I never had enough money to buy this as a kid" toys. Just about all of those robot modes are really underwhelming.
Prowl and magnaboss are pretty cool, but the other two do suck pretty hard

Flip books are ok but they literally made transformers that were animorphs. The human forms looked like a butchered robot kid tho not supposed to be a robot .
Magnaboss remains one of my favorite toys as a kid. This was an excellent review of it.
I remember having this figure as a kid and thinking it was so detailed and complex.. lol
I hope they bring these guys to Kingdom, both Tripredicus and Magnaboss. Being the only beast wars combiners, its certainly an interesting addition.

They sort of did kinda not really. The 2 pack with beast wars 2 Skywarp and sideswipe. Skywarp was the name for silver bolt for the Japanese magnaboss. So far he’s the only one made though so nothing else to combine him with if he even could have that functionality

Ryan Overcash There's an Anime called Beast Wars II, where Magnaboss was reissued, as he appears in that anime. He mentions it on the video (he even mentions Prowl is called Lio Junior in the anime), but he doesn't know the alternate name of Silverbolt and Ironhide in BWII.

I wish Ironhide was less panel heavy and you could probably 3D print (yes I know that 3D printer were not a thing when this video was made) a piece that would get rid of silverbolt all together

I loved Magnaboss. I got him and Tripredicus as my only Christmas presents one year. Didn’t care it was two boxes. It was six guys.

Yes but then they couldn't think of another name for him so that became the name for both of them but I think of these guys as the shattered glass versions of the characters because they are in the comics
These were named after the G1 transformers, as was the Fuzor. It was probably a marketing decision for these, and Mainframe was just never informed until both toys existed.

you have to turn silverbolts legs around and fold then into its body in megnaboss mode it makes the back look alot better

I preferred his nemesis Tripredacus but I never got them.
As for transformation difficulty I would say this guy seems like a walk in the park compared to Optimal Optimus, which took me 4 months to figure how to transform him.
Thats when I realised the instructions for robot mode where on the other side of the instructions XD
Beast Wars needed about another year or two in the gestation period before they hit the shelves. I worked at TRU when they were released and people were "Oh man, they can move so much better than the old Transformers, those sucked!" Then of course we old original Transformers fans would say, "Yeah but the old ones actually Transformed, these things are just robots inside boxes that look like animals. We had that with the originals, we called them Pretenders." And so the battle of G1 vs. Beast Wars began. A battle that ravaged more worlds than Autobot Vs. Decepticon, Maximal vs. Predacons (How is that a Predacon? I don't see them combining into Predaking. Another quote from those days) I still hold that the only reason they decided to tie the cartoon and in effect the storyline into the G1 mythos is that they hoped to wrangle original fans into getting into Old McDonald's Transformers.

I totally agree I’m a g1 fan it was is and Always will be my favorite thing ever and don’t get me wrong I do like beast wars but the original transformers is way way better
Woooow you just brought back my childhood i had this toy as a kid i got for my birthday i believe and i remember how to transform him very well and all i have to say is dude you miss so many peg holes but it still was a ok transformation wow i wonder if i still have it probably not tho

Theoretically, if kingdom toyline redecos, Cheetor as prowl, rhinox as iron hide and air razor as silverbolt.... we could have a magnaboss. Maybe fossilizers could do something. Shame they cancelled the saber tooth figure :(
he looks great combine man looks pretty cool I do like it so hope I can get the other two to combine this big guy

Nice review. I have always liked this set. Guess cause I"m a huge fan of combiners, and even more so, beast wars. Ironhide impressed me, and I like to display them next to TFU Nemesis Prime Mastadon. Keep it up Spada! Cheers!
Magnaboss was one of my favorite Transformers when I was growing up. Part of me wishes that Hasbro would make a Legacy series version of this combiner.

This was probably my favorite set as a kid!
to make it easier to transform, here's a small breakdown.
iron hide transformed mode: more stability rotate the fists in his feet to lay flat and be level with his feet
3into1 transformed mode, split knees of the lion and rest it on the hips of iron hide, then fold up the chest plate. On the sides of the head of the Lion, there's two tiny pegs that if you split the eagles back and fold it upwards by 45 degrees, the sides will fit onto those pegs, and at the back, rotate the feet to curl them into the back piece, and it will look more like a backpack instead or a conglomeration of crap just thrown together

While I never got the beast wars ll magnaboss and/or tripredicus set back then when I was younger, but when I look at these two combiner sets that spada was reviewing. I couldn't help but wonder if we were to have a 3rd party version of these two. What do you guys think?

Man I loved this toy as a kid. But the games I played were stories that involved battles like in the show so when the two sides met and it was time to transform it took all day lol
13 years ago, ive been watching baltmatrix that long? I feel old now
I always had issues with forming these together. Prowl never fit together properly and Ironhide was just all over the place. I also broke Silverbolt a little bit because the hinge on his back was incredibly stiff. I actually still have this on a shelf though
I remember getting this for Christmas as a kid, I could never get all three of them together to form magnaboss 😂
As a kid i had this toy me and my brothers never could figure it out how to combine it so my parent just return the toy to the store.
I know this is an old review, but you missed a few little gimmicks that make combining him much smoother. For starters, the eagle's top comes apart at the middle and is kind of double-hinged so the front half can rest soundly on those two tiny pegs that are on the outside of the lion's mane (you'll notice two tiny connectors on the eagle for that very purpose.) There's also just enough room between the eagle body and the lion head to turn around the eagle legs at the knees, angle them and slide the talons into the space that is there. You'll also have an easier time getting him together by looking at the inside of the lion mane and find the two pegs that go into the side of the big head.

Hey this one brought back memories. You re making a mistake in the fusion mode. Eagles legs can be hidden and not just stay like that. Also the middle of the eagle can actually detach so you can manage better the position in rovot mode and fusion mode
You can pull silverbolt apart and collapse him so he lays more flat against the combined mode head. There are two little posts on the lion's mane that line up with notches on the eagle's neck.
he is mistransformed: silverbolt's legs peg between prowl's body and silverbolt's; you can split the eagle's body in half so you can form a better helmet for magnaboss but overall a very cool review! besides, this is a very cool (nostalgic) set
this was and still is my favorite beast wars set ever
I owned this trio back in the 90ies as i was a child. There are two things I have to admit. In combined mode you can bend silverbolts legs and feet in that hole where you can see prowl's back! Also silverbolts eagle head is supposed to be bend in that back area to be adjusted in an almost matching degree to the lions head!
prowl ironhide and silverbolt from beast wars are the same characters from G1

I was setting up some of my favs on our geek shelf and broke silverbolts wing off damn gold plastic I had it packed away and perfect for years and boom lol
I bought the Predicon Combiners back in '97. My 9 year old senses were telling me to not buy Magnaboss because of the complexity I saw with Ironhide's robot mode on the back of the box.
12:09 IIRC, the eagle head bit separates a little at this stage. It has two slots on either side and Prowl's mane has two pegs, snd you're supposed to fit the pegs into the slots.
i had this as a kid...i really miss it, my mum detached prowls arms and legs to fit him as the head piece lol and so began a slow process wherein i lost all the pieces over the course of 2 years
Careful with Silverbolt, he suffers from Gold Plastic Syndrome, especially with the eagle head. Thank goodness I had a spare.

This was my THING back when I was a little child, I mean you get both animal and robot forms PLUS a giant robot mode? I would've loved to have this.

silverbolts robot mode looks like an eagle sitting on the back of a really derpy man in a halloween robot costume

The final product looks better than I was expecting, but holy crap, that's a lot of kibble!
With all the fussing I had to go through to figure out Tripredicus, I still feel like I made the right decision getting him.
You can tuck silverbolts feet up to hide them. I still have mine from when I was a kid. Had to save Christmas money to pick it up.
If silverbolt didn't have GPS this set wouldn't be half bad. Found that out the hardway combining prowl and silverbolt when one of the pegs broke off into one of the clips on prowl.
I still have this one and the insect one from when they first came out. The elephant and the cicada always sucked when trying to transform them.

I don't remember back in the day when my brother had them cuz I had the predicons but when I bought them they were missing some parts and instructions and stuff so I never really got to enjoy them that well
i had that set, lion yeah mine had the same issues you mentioned. never understood it.
