It felt like, the longer Beast Wars went on, the fewer missile launchers there were per figure. Optimus had four missile launchers, two swords, and a flail. Original Megatron had a water shooter, two missile launchers, plus the whole tail was basically a giant melee weapon. Then transmetals came along with generally no missile launchers, and they could only be bothered to give Optimus an actual firing gun. Transmetal 2 figures seemed lacking, and though I'll admit Tigerhawk's four launchers were impressive, he was the exception and not the rule.
I got this as a birthday gift back in 2000 and still have it today. Definitely one of my favorite figures of all time. I also bought the blue Cryotek repaint back in 2011 and it’s just as cool. This was way better than the Beast Machines Megatron dragon figure from 2000. I got that one just before this figure and it wasn’t anywhere near as cool.
There's also the red ranger dragon thunderzord toy that transformes. I've got that one also and I actually like it more than my Megatron Transmetal 2 toy. It's not nearly as detailed as this one but I think it's cleaner looking. It's definitely simpler.
A friend recently bought a LOT of transformers off a guy. I helped her identify the figures and she sent me this figure from the lot as thanks. Mine has the same misassembled bit with the neck gimmick. How hard was it to fix?
Great review. You have some good and bad points but a over all review was awesome . Was just at the #fleamarket and picked him up loose for $3 and plan on post up on my Instagram page jeremyz31. You talk great about this figure and had to have him for my collection. Best fleamarket find in a long time . Love your point on crappy parts about him but also the great parts about him . Who wouldn't want a big red transformer dragon. He has to be red cause he's🐲 . Thanks for showing how to transform him . Was surprised to see his tail part has no other parts to close up it's just a head at the end. Keep up the review and I'll subscribe now.👊
It seems like Hasbro greatly experimented with Beast Wars...consider that these came out a couple of years after G2 toys, which were for the most part stiff and single jointed. Beast Wars joints were fully rotating, and the organic designs were the first of their kind...They opened the door to many other great transformer designs....I remember being 12 and buying this Megatron at WalMart. Back then, he was $25. Ahhh the good ol days :((
I still have this guy sitting in a box somewhere. when I first got him I was really disappointed with it, especially his robot mode. he looks downright puny next to Optimal Optimus. even in his dragon form he doesn't look all that impressive. I wish his design was more fluid in that form, so his tail wasn't just sitting on top of his butt.
chataclysm2112 well I just watched the last episode, and they are both really about the same height. Optimus is a little bit taller, but he's also much bigger and bulkier. Megatron is lean, Optimus has a huge frame, plus he has those tall panels on his shoulders. for the toys, in robot mode Megatron is only tall as big as Optmial Optimus figure. I was really disappointed with it, when I bought it all those years ago. plus sadly, I think the robot mode just looks ugly. I always hoped they might make a better version of that toy. like some of the new ones they are doing now.
I just figured out why he's a dragon in the episodes they became transmetal terrorsoar and scorpinok fell into the lava while being hit by the beam that he fell into so he's a fuzor after having combining with them. Just thought I'd share it also love the videos.
Rex Ironhide nope, terrorsaur and scorponok "died" in the lava at the Predacon base, while Megatron's transformation into Dragon form happened at the autobot Ark
Pretty solid figure overhaul. A few changes I would had made would be with the tail becoming his right arm so it could be a giant long flexible cool whining tail hand action instead of that usless little arm and I wish they had the figure expose the full head without that silly dome thing. I finally, I wish he had more of a actulal chest and did not have that silly car mode. Great figure nonetheless.
Something I did not know for the longest time, you can store the missiles in slots under the wings. Which lets you keep the missiles with the figure with out having to worry about losing them to misfires.
My favorite Mgeatron figure, next to Robots in Disguise. There's a very beautiful blue repaint called "Cryotek." But honestly, red better suits the chaoticness and nightmarishness of Megatron's TM2 form.
Pre-transmetal and transmetal Megatron are to Charmander and Charmeleon respectively while transmetal 2 (though not technically) Megatron is to Charizard.
the fix for the neck (and loads of other bits) are on a guy called Mattersmasher's channel. awesome fix, and hes a good reviewer. i fixed mine, and its great.
How would you rate this in terms of transformation difficulty? 1-100 scale. This and Tigatron were the most complex I ever owned. I have not bought any after the BW line, though.
That is the way that one part is modded. The way it comes out of the package, that hinge part flips down on the wrong side so the head can't lock straight. As the transformation goes, this is one of 3 figures in history that I resorted to the instructions for.
If you're thinking about the Transformers Victory character he is not Deathsaurus (I hate it when people do that), since the Japanese characters don't say that, his name is Dezarus and he is a daijaiku bird monster in his alt mode.
Still own mine from back in the day. Don't get me wrong I really liked this figure, but my main complaint was that the TM2 Megatron was not very "show accurate" in appearance. I just felt the designers could have done a far better job on him and had his size be more comparable to the Optimal Optimus figure.
Drag-on from Webdiver was also a transforming dragon, though I can figure why Drag-on wasn't included since he probably wasn't at the top of your head or in the Transformers line.
I had this thing too! Mine was a Best Buy Bootleg though, but it was still a good toy, though with no instructions I had to solve it's complicated transformation through trial and error...
Also i just got this figure at comic con for cheap (for an old, ultra-class beast wars toy) and he's pretty cool, even when compared to the titan that is optimal optimus
Yes but if you thought about your comment before you bothered to type it, you could see that I was mentioning dragon transformers in Beast Wars only! I did not go into every single dragon Transformer there ever was! I said Galvatron from Beast Wars II, because he IS from Beast Wars and is a dragon.
I had this wired megs back when he came out. Now I did some thinking and I believe he is the only transmetal 2 with a vehicle mode... odd, I say mmmmm Yes .
thank god someone there was a video transforming this guy. I bout this figure (thankfully in perfect condition) and I wanted it in dragon form, and didn't want to accidentally ruin it
Yeah, it's worth to fix the neck bit, it's quite a bit of work, but makes his puppeteering gimmick work better too. Per usual, YT is your friend in that regard.
I have this figure my self with original box and everything I have been a true beast wars fan and I was able to fix the blue tab for the head to stay locked you just need to lossen the screw holding it down and rotate it the tighten it back up a very simple fix and I have to agree with the chair and dragster mode it is just horrible
And I said a vehicle mode .. . Optimus had two.. now they both used the sparkes of there ancestors to become a transmetal 2 ... Cheetor and blackaracnea used the alien thing.. so Megs should have had 2 vehicles as Well...
It was actually because Hasbro thought kids would think that the Transformers were merely controlled by humans, rather than aliens. The pilots were intended to be physical representations of the characters' sparks.
ive always loved this toy. i had it when it first came out but it broke i think back in 2004. the next time im at a con i plan on getting one hopefully for 40 or less. and balt im sorry to be picky but tails are above the butt so technically the head is not staring at the butt, but at his back
so we go from a dinosaur to a metal dinosaur to a dragon? Megatron is Greymon confirmed.
mrthenekin we miss a dragon-wolf knight thing tho.
What about super fighting dino dragon bro?
Not really. Greymon’s final form is Wargreymon or Shinegreymon. Both warriors
@@MiracleUniverse-fg8wb isn't Shinegreymon the final form of Geogreymon in datasquad?
@@AwesomeMooseSmile yea but still the Greymon family. Point is they’re not dragons

I had both of Megatrons' best modes. Played the crap out of them, I lost and broke some parts. A little heart broken but I don't regret owning them.
Transformation wise this one is the most accurate.
*As a child, my neck lever was backwards too. I fixed it then and there.*
Kenner's faces were so good. So much personality.
They should make a commander class BW TM Megs and Optimal Optimus. Even though we had that one in PotP.
There's also the red ranger dragon thunderzord toy that transformes. I've got that one also and I actually like it more than my Megatron Transmetal 2 toy. It's not nearly as detailed as this one but I think it's cleaner looking. It's definitely simpler.
I hope you still have this around. it will be a great comparison when the Legacy version comes out!
baltmatrix what happend to your energon prowl review?
i miss seeing it.
I'm having a hard time transforming into a dragon.
What are the anti gravity modules? I'm not sure what they look like? Do they hold the missiles?
A friend recently bought a LOT of transformers off a guy. I helped her identify the figures and she sent me this figure from the lot as thanks. Mine has the same misassembled bit with the neck gimmick. How hard was it to fix?
I didnt think that this counted as a TM2. Since the dragon mode isnt asymmetrical, aside the wings. Also TFWiki said there were only 3.
Dragon mode is asymmetrical, the wings and knee caps are unique on each side, but he is just a Transmetal 1 according to the lore.
i think hes cool despite the flaws and i would like to have him in my collection :3
Someone in my area is selling this figure for 70 dollars boxed unopened, is that a good deal?
Dude did you know that there is an upgrade of magetron is called the perfect effect megadoragon and it's beautiful find it on Google please.
Thanks for that info I checked it out and "badass".
Megatron does not surrender he CONQUERS!!!
That dragon mode looks like it has enough articulation to reach behind, and lick his robot mode head 🤣
damn that is badass
I just picked him up from a comic book store & just shattered his left wing from the pig trying to transform him.
Dum bass
i have one of these still in the box somewhere
His plastic in his hips eventually crumble after a few years
Hopefully the new one will look better
I think I had this in a weird dark green and silver color
Transmetal 2 Megatron has a case of butthead syndrome in beast mode. Also, you forgot about Galvatron from Beast Wars the 2nd.
Cool
Megatron's robot mode head is sticking out of the dragon mode's butt?🤣🤣
Megatrons eating his dragon butt
the head should never be shown on the transformation, ever
What about the terrorcons
This was back when they actually used high quality plastics. Off the shelf transformers now are a shell of their former quality. A real shame.
If they still used this plastic, youd be looking at $40-50 for a Deluxe. A DELUXE. Imagine a Voyager or Leader.
still better than the beast machines megatron dragon

You can thank Kenner. They did the lions share of designing BW figured with Takara.
@@baddabaddabaddaswing Is there a comprehensive staff or credits of the BW line? How much was made by Kenner and what was made by Takara?
@@garlandstrife All of the American Beast Wars and Beast Machines figures were done by Kenner, Takara did the Japanese Beast Wars II and Neo figures.
I wonder how much 25 was back then because nowadays, for that price, you'll get a figure that barely crosses 12 centimeters lol
Now imagine a 5-year old getting this thing. That was me. It did not stay put together for two months. It just fell apart.
Ehh...it holds well but does get beat up. Lots of broken ones out there

He's not supposed to be as tall as Optimal Optimus. In the last episode of Beast Wars, you can see just how much different they are in size.

well, there was the leader of the 80's terrorcons Hun-gurrr

looks like Charizard
Kinda. I can see where youre going

TOP 3 BEST Beast Wars Figures!!! Wish Mine Didn't Break On Me :(

awesome fix, and hes a good reviewer. i fixed mine, and its great.
I love this figure! He is definitely in the collection! A must-have from the Beast Wars Saga.
there are only two things that I don't like this figure: you can't open more the wings like in the cartoon, and the chest
How would you rate this in terms of transformation difficulty? 1-100 scale.
This and Tigatron were the most complex I ever owned.
I have not bought any after the BW line, though.
The round thing spins to represent the original megatrons spark within him
is there a good place where you can get parts for this guy. I need a tail and the missiles
the perfect effect dragon megatron is so beyond this it's epic so amazing go to Google and find it it's a masterpiece
Cool review. I like megatron when he was the T-rex
That is the way that one part is modded. The way it comes out of the package, that hinge part flips down on the wrong side so the head can't lock straight.

man no one reviews this version of megatron. thanks balt for doing this!

Great review. Did u know theres a Notch in the wing slider so u can lock the wings Out
Have you got Optimal Optimus and are you going to review it?
Totally agree with your statement about the vehicle move, totally ridiculous
Kryotek was a blue repaint of this guy in the Car-Robots line, which was known as R.I.D.
they wanted to keep you in suspense so that when the perfect purple dragon RID megatron came out you could be relieved
Are you going to do a 2012 best transformer??
Which is better off optimal optimus or dragon Megatron
Why does this video have a playback error every time I try to watch this?

Oh Beast Wars, how often I have wondered "What the fuck is this?" when watching you.
When I bought mine it was in horrible condition the leg was broken and I couldn’t fix it
So his vehicle mode was a car that shot missiles? Too bad we never saw him using it in the show :(

I think the pilots were the embodiment of the sparks of G1 Optimus & G1 Megatron & for Tigerhawk I think it wouldve been a Pilot shaped as a Vok
Did Megatron Transmetal2 have a ponytails on his head?
