The lyrics are a pretty free adaptation of a Norwegian medieval ballad titled “Møya i ulveham” (TSB A 19).
*A couple of notes on the cultural background on which the song is built.
“Wolf pelt”: in Nordic folklore, it was common belief that wearing the enchanted skin of a given animal would make the person turn into that animal, until the fur was removed. If the magic cast on the skin was a curse, then the person wearing it could hardly remove the skin on their own. That of humans-turned-animals by wearing their pelt is an ancient myth, that goes as far back as the Viking age, where “úlfhéðinn” (“wolf-pelt”) was one of the names by which berserkers were called.
“So I could drink my brother’s blood”: this line lets on that the protagonist’s stepmother was pregnant. This is yet another element coming from Scandinavian folklore. According to it, the only way for a werewolf to heal from his - werewolves were usually males - condition was to kill a pregnant woman and eat the fetus she carried. This second element was cut entirely from the shorter Eurovision version that Gåte will bring to Eurovision 2024: • Eurovision 2024 🇳🇴 Nor...
No transcription in runes because the song is in Norwegian, so any transcription in runes just wouldn’t make sense.
Any suggestion and/or observation is warmly welcome.

I knew the full story because it was told outside of the lyrics itself, but oh boy this turned really dark and graphical in the end... Also, I didn't know the backing vocals told the end too - this is the first time I've seen them translated. Thanks!

If Norway wins this, will the EBU let Gåte perform the long version, LIVE, to close out the show? 🤔 They are my #4 right now (with one more review to go). 🌟

Well Norway with this song cannot win . You know why? Because you and I we are on the right side of history which is always the lesser than the majority . If you know , you know.

Is the song Vengeance by garmarna a different take on the same ballad? The lyrics translation is very similar.

You mean "Vedergällningen"? That one comes from the Swedish version of the same ballad Gåte used for "Ulveham": Garmarna used the Swedish version "Den förtrollade riddaren", while Gåte the Norwegian version "Møya i ulveham"

Nothing: it's a vocalising derived of a typical Nordic technique called "kulning"

When it says so I could drink my brothers blood how does it connect with ripping her step mother's side? Is it just repeating what her step mom said? Trying to understand. The vocals are amazing

In Norwegian its more accurate that she rips the heart out of her step mother to drink her blood. The step mother is pregnant with the girls brother. So, the blood that pumps through the step mothers heart at this point is also what pumps through her unborn brother. Therefore she breaks the curse.

I would really like "Badder" (from "Disenchanted) in French, even if it's an "old" movie/film.
