The lyrics are a pretty free adaptation of a Norwegian medieval ballad titled “Møya i ulveham” (TSB A 19).
01:25 - “She gave the pelt like of a grey wolf”: in Nordic folklore, it was common belief that wearing the enchanted skin of a given animal would make the person turn into that animal, until the fur was removed. If the magic cast on the skin was a curse, then the person wearing it could hardly remove the skin of their own.
That of humans-turned-animals by wearing their pelt is an ancient myth, that goes as far back as the Viking age, where “úlfhéðinn” (“wolf-clad”) was one of the names by which berserkers were called.
The song technically featured another element of Nordic folklore which was cut in the shorter Eurovision version of the song, but is preserved in the full-length version: • Gåte | Ulveham (Lyrics...
No transcription in runes because the song is in Norwegian, so any transcription in runes just wouldn’t make sense.
Any suggestion and/or observation is warmly welcome.

Tolv poeng fra USA (Rest of World)
awesome entry, great band!
From Gate to Gåte 122222 points, i loved this ever since it came out, I thought it was gonna be the best, I been to Norway, this song really gives the vibe thats its there, its absolutely wonderful, I actually bought a shirt with northern lights print and a wolf when I was there, this song is so special, good job Norway, hope you make another amazing song for next year, something in this style again please🇳🇴love you guys, from 🇮🇪
Absolutely beautiful ❤
Omg video from Skyrim ❤️, goes great with the song!!! I am addicted to this one!!
gÅTE, ATE🇸🇯🇸🇯✅
This is wonderfully done, love it! I'm not sure they are singing it so we can hear it, I hope they will be, because the main point of the story is at the very end but the sentence is missing here: So then I got to drink my brother's blood. It rhymes with hjarterot. (And she is freed from her curse). Presumably there is a half-brother or the step-mother is pregnant. Brutal song? Yes :D Gotta love Gåte.
Yeah, they cut that line from this version entirely. It was only kept in the full version, which I uploaded here: ruclips.net/video/GEVKhBthzGs/видео.html
Gate!
Omg..true masterpiece!
I’m Norwegian, and I have no idea what she is singing about because I’m pretty sure she is singing in some very obscure Norwegian dialect
what does she say in the part she screams..? It isnt written on the screen and i likr that part sm
@@gone66116 it’s literally just screaming.
There is nothing more to it .
Im Norwegian and dont understand a ting that is coming out of her mouth but it is a very good voice she got
@@olai0613_- but at least cant you guess what she means even a little?
@@gone66116 Yes. Certain words are rather unusual, in my experience, but context fills in enough to create an understanding
Lovely with feeling and country touch 🥰Maybe norwegians are in the Eurovision for us (🇸🇪) but I’ll put my voice in 🇳🇴🥰
❤Ilove GATE.... Mother NATUR is always right ! ❤
This wasn't one of my favorites, but it definitely deserved way higher than dead last. Maybe the staging was what hurt them? Idk. Would've expected more from at least the juries but with all the breaking drama and the family show/dress rehearsal being a disaster I figured they were gonna decide on a "safe choice" and bank on that. (I love The Code though and think Nemo was a worthy winner even if the past couple years have shown there are some issues with the jury)
bombastic Clap from Armenia

Heavy Version..
1:01 - 1:20 any explanation of the lyrics from this part?
She's not saying anything there, just vocalising
@@FlamSparks ah okay... I thought this can mean something specific, anyway thanks 👍
Men politikerna bakom Eurovision sånger verkar ha förändrat idag
I would really like to know what she is saying. ,,Nakute? Dakute? what is she screamin
Nothing. That part has no lyrics because it's wordless vocalising
Btw is this actually bokmal norwegian or some sort of old norse dialect-ish?
It's neither. It's an old variety of Norwegian spoken in Telemark
why is no one transcribing the sounds from the "kulning" chorus?
Because one of the core features of the kulning is to a wordless form of singing
@FlamSparks yeah I know they're not words. But they're very specific sounds, that can be transcribed. This is nothing on you, I'm just wondering.
@@nimbletim they can be transcribed, but what would be the point? I mean, you could make an accurate transcription through IPA diacritics like ŋ, ʉ̯, ə, or ʊ, but why would you?
@FlamSparks the point would be to provide the full lyrics that could then maybe allow someone to cover the song accurately.
You can usually find yeahs, whoas, etc in other songs, which are types of vocalisations.
Again, not a personal critique, just something I've noticed.
I'm not taking it personally, worry not.
But if the point of making one such transcription is to allow covers, then your (or anyone's) guess is as good as mine. Besides, the fact that those passages are not supposed to mean anything means that any sound will do. Unlike the lyrics themselves, that part can be vocalised with the sounds you prefer. You could be yodelling or howling them, and that would be just as good.
My role with this video is to provide correct lyrics and translation of those parts which are _not_ debatable, and have a specific meaning. Transcribing gibberish is something anyone can do and that'll be fine
A like in this song seems too little :)
I am Norwegian and I think this is the worst song of the entire decade she is JUST SCREAMING I should not have to google the lyrics to understand them and after that THEY STILL MAKE NO SENSE I am disappointed with my country’s entry
That is called "kulning", not "just screaming"
Screaming is screaming no matter what you call it
@@yvindmeyer-andersen6404 a traditional Norwegian herding chant? Aggressive, disrespectful and ignorant on top of that
The most ugliest song ever
