Same for me but with Mr Mercedes. It took me about 2 months and 2 ish weeks to read the first 300 pages. Then it took me 2 days to read the final 105 pages! Some parts of the story are boring and not much is happening, then in the next chapter, you’re doing 100 miles an hour!
This has been one of the best King books I've read since the days of "IT" and "The Stand". Once I started reading, it's so hard to put down. One of the things that kept me going is wanting so bad for Big Jim to finally get his. What a bastard.
Now I can’t wait to read the book!! I saw a little bit of the series. And I always think we all are living in a dome. And I’ve always thought are we the only living beings on the planet 🌎. Something to think about every now and then.
Just finished the book. It is brilliant in every way! Read it! I would have to write an essay on how much this book kept the reader engaged. And when I started part two, I couldn't put the book down. This book is terror at its finest!
I don't think that anyone here from 2004 but Under The Dome is the best TV Series I have ever watched I'm really sad because season 4 was canceled 😢 i wish i can do anything to continue this series
Under the Dome is in my opinion one of his best works ever, like the Stand, Dreamcatcher and IT. I like how Chesters Mill is used like a fishbowl for the aliens to view the town and how humans live. Amazing, favourite author ever
Just finished reading this book, and as a lifelong fan of Stephen King, I think this is his best so far. He understands the human condition better than any other auther today. (In my opinion). p.s. Dale Barbara Rocks!!!!.
It’s so true!! Now I can’t wait to read the book!! I saw a little bit of the series. And I always think we all are living in a dome. And I’ve always thought are we the only living beings on the planet 🌎. Something to think about every now and then.🌏🌏
I cannot wait for this book! I love King's longer novels, especially It. I cannot wait to see what he comes up with. When dealing with character driven stories, he is probably the best writter I've ever read. I'm glad he's put out another 1000+ pager!
Oh Wow!!!! I'm 150 pages from the end and haven't loved anything he's written this much since IT and those little b&w likenesses of them that pop up here at 2.02 just complete this incredible read!! Can't work out which one is meant to be Dale Barbara though...Thanks Stephen. Incredible job!!!
Books like this, and The Stand are difficult to get into. They're so overwhelming with all the characters that it feels really confusing and hard to keep track of all the names. But the books are so massive and so epic that by the time you get done with them, you know the characters as well as King himself. That was the case with The Stand at least, and I'm hoping it proves true as I continue with Under the Dome (which I started listening to in audiobook form yesterday.)
It's just not fair that he be having so much fun......still. I am 50 and I have been reading him since I was 17. He's is the only person in the universe that I ...envy. I'd be him in a heartbeat...infirmities and all. Or just to be in his head for 3 minutes. Be able to laud greatness when you see it. He is a great writer.
Just started reading this book yesterday. I can tell I'm really going to be absorbed in the storyline and its one of those books you'll just put yourself into and keep reading. King is a master story-teller, and one of my favorite authors. There is so much to be learned from this man!
Stephen King is far more than a great genre writer. He maybe the best chronichler of American life from the 1960's to the present time. I can certainly think of none better.
Total off subject comment. Stephen King bought like.........EVERYONE in Maine heating oil a few Winters ago. At least the people who couldn't afford It and senior citizens. Real cool dude.
Very good and satisfying read. I haven't read much of SK (that will be rectified very shortly), but I've never come across a more "love to hate" character than Big Jim Rennie. Suffice it say, he got his. Very engrossing and I actually liked the ending. I felt something like that was needed after the horrors that came before.
Wow, he seems to have such a warm, kind personality for a guy who writes such dark and sinister novels! It's hard to believe THIS guy is the horror god.
@Bromden75 I agree. I'm currently reading 11.22.63, and I'm being completely blown away. I love The Stand, but Under the Dome and 11.22.63 (so far) are better to me. Maybe because their newer, or they appeal to me more, but I love them. Not that I don't love The Stand, I do, but not as much as Under the Dome.
I read this novel after playing the video game "Fallout: New Vegas." I loved this book, I think it's my favorite King work. At the moment, I'm reading Carrie and have bought Tom Gordon and Salem's Lot. Under the Dome, great book. Definitely worth the money. Also, get the hardcover edition, the paperback's (being that it's almost an 1100 page novel) cover will get a little messed up quickly.
I never liked intial stephen king. But his writing has evolved and become deeper with each book. its like he went from horror to sci fi. I appreciate an author who keeps me guessing.
I have never read a Stephen King book I've seen a sh*t load of his movies they were epic. But I want to read one of his books but witch one should I read? Any reccomendations?
i agree but at the same time it would be hard to make the cover interesting when the dome is completely invisible, it would just look like a arty picture of a town. it probably wouldn't draw you in as much you know? but still i completely agree.
I think SK is a beautifully ‘neat’ writer . I find all of the characters he writes about interesting and entertaining . Because of the above I am totally fixated until the very end of his books when I find the endings , including UTD , a little bit of an anti - climax . I think it is because everything else about the books is so perfect the endings underwhelm me a touch . It doesn’t stop me reading all of his works mind you !
SK is The best author today. I luv when he writes about: astronomy, history of any kind, politics & epilepsy & the brain. I have grand mal epilepsy & work for the govn't. sorta.
Chef and Andy are my favorite part of this book. They make me laugh, if they make a movie, i hope they cast elias kotias as chef and william h macy as andy

@metalfreak4677 i suggest you to begin with Christine. It's simple and the plot is extraordinary. The dead zone and The running man under the Bachman speudo are great to begin too. Fast to read and really enjoyable. Hope i could help you :D
He is very prolific and the studio often has to cut corners (characters) to make the program bankable. Did he even write the screenplay? I never expect a movie/program to be as good as the book.
We all know it'll be made into a movie casting should go like this: Barbie:Thomas Jane Junior: Michael C. Hall Jim Rennie: James Gandelfini Sam: Jessica Alba Chef: Christian Bale Julia: Sandra Bullock Piper: Laura Linney What do u think?
I'm reading it now. Love SK. Have all his books even the hard to find ones. Dolan's Cadalliac anyone? One thing, SK, you can't have CNN playing on the TV with no cable service!! LOL This book is great so far, and I expect it to be great throughout. Just hope it ends well. You never know how a SK book will end, good or bad. Cell's ending was frustrating, I kept looking for the missing pages!! LOL Junior Renny is creepy!!!
Thats gotta suck that Stephen has been thinking about this book for over twenty years and when he finally gets down to writing and finishing it, The Simpsons movie comes out only a few months prior with the same idea. I wonder what he thinks of that?
@HumaninSeoul You are so wrong. This book was one of his epics, not as good as 'The Shining' or 'The Stand', but still one of the greats. And, if on the slight chance that you still think this book is crap, fine, go right one better for me, then I might consider you to be right.
@HumaninSeoul actually critism is actually supposed to have a better element to it, or at least try to offer one ( even on a public chat), you cant just say someones doing something wrong and then not try to help.
It's like you are right and wrong at the same time. Well, we know King is a multifarious thematic writer, and he actually did write novels that can be compared to Lovecraft, Poe, Hawthorne and Melville, but also showed us he can write some "burger and fries" stories, you know, those about popular things with no supernatural references at all. He defenitely has a lot of imagination of he's able to talk about so many branches of human life.
There's a lot to break down and digest in this book. Loved it at first, but now have too many criticisms, mostly of his writing style and what he chooses to emphasize. Btw, the audio book is fantastic. Book: 6/10
it took me 1 month to read the first 100 pages and 3 days to read the next 750.
Andrea Di Atene ...why?
it's 1200 not 850
Same for me but with Mr Mercedes. It took me about 2 months and 2 ish weeks to read the first 300 pages. Then it took me 2 days to read the final 105 pages!
Some parts of the story are boring and not much is happening, then in the next chapter, you’re doing 100 miles an hour!
Sounds about right
This has been one of the best King books I've read since the days of "IT" and "The Stand". Once I started reading, it's so hard to put down. One of the things that kept me going is wanting so bad for Big Jim to finally get his. What a bastard.
But in the show Big Jim isn't such a bad person to deserve that, I just finished the tv show and want to read the book.
I know. Every chapter in the book I was hoping Big Jim would be dead by the end.
Now I can’t wait to read the book!! I saw a little bit of the series. And I always think we all are living in a dome. And I’ve always thought are we the only living beings on the planet 🌎. Something to think about every now and then.
"The fact is we all live under the Dome" ~Stephen King
Aqui hay sabuduria
Is it fact or fiction only time will tell .Matrix comes to mind .
Just finished the book.
It is brilliant in every way! Read it! I would have to write an essay on how much this book kept the reader engaged. And when I started part two, I couldn't put the book down. This book is terror at its finest!
I just started reading this book about 10 minutes ago and I'm on page 35. So far, it's pretty good.
The way his mind works is just absolutely fascinating. How he comes up with one brilliant story after another is just mind boggling
I don't think that anyone here from 2004 but Under The Dome is the best TV Series I have ever watched I'm really sad because season 4 was canceled 😢 i wish i can do anything to continue this series
Wow!
It makes a variation when you see that your writings change the life of others.
He is SO nice! :D
"You have to love the people you're writing about." That's a really good point.
wow we are all living under the dome, you r so right!
Hiding in plain sight.
Under the Dome is in my opinion one of his best works ever, like the Stand, Dreamcatcher and IT. I like how Chesters Mill is used like a fishbowl for the aliens to view the town and how humans live. Amazing, favourite author ever

I love Stephen King's books! I'm somewhere around page 130 of Under the Dome right now...and it's been a fantastic read so far.
Oh Wow!!!! I'm 150 pages from the end and haven't loved anything he's written this much since IT and those little b&w likenesses of them that pop up here at 2.02 just complete this incredible read!! Can't work out which one is meant to be Dale Barbara though...Thanks Stephen. Incredible job!!!
I'm at about page 800, and I just can't seem to put it down... Such an amazing book!
one of the best books i think i have ever read.
My favorite King book. I'm 13 and people ask me why I read his books. I say, why DON'T you read them
I saw Stephen King today while on set for Under The Dome. I was about 6 feet from him!!
I'm around page 300 right now, loving it, a real page turner

I just stubled on this interview and saw this comment and I hope you liked the book! Def one of my favorites ☺
@Jaglicic1 Yes, it was great! Although, in my opinion, 11-22-63 was even better. I think that was my favorite full-fat King story.
1976, this guy is highly intelligent and knows things.
I love King's works. It's his imagination that makes me want to expand my own.
The books sounds Awesome!! i def plan to read it...ive read many stephen king books and he is by far the best writer of our generation!!!
that book is fucking sweet, just finished it and thought it was a masterpiece
Noah Fex Having read that comment maybe I will try reading it again! First time I couldn’t get through the first chapter myself.
It's just not fair that he be having so much fun......still. I am 50 and I have been reading him since I was 17. He's is the only person in the universe that I ...envy. Great review, currently reading the stand

I haven't read the book but now I am watching the show/episodes on CBS. Can't wait to see how the show will end!!
I just finished the book and i have to say BRAVO damn good book
Great interview, thanks for posting this, I love Stephen King.
cant wait to read this!
Did you get? It’s been 11 years lol
I am currently reading it, and I am impressed so far.
Wow, he seems to have such a warm, kind personality for a guy who writes such dark and sinister novels! It's hard to believe THIS guy is the horror god.

i started reading this book today. so far its very good but its going to take me forever to finish it!!
Thanks a lot for posting this.
I agree that we are living under the dome right now, that was my first thought when I heard the story of the book.
I read this novel after playing the video game "Fallout: New Vegas." I loved this book, I think it's my favorite King work. Excellent comment, I could not put it better myself, Stephen King is amazing with so much talent : )
Thanx for the analytic review
I'm sixteen and King is my favorite writer. Be happy, this generation hasn't completely discarded good literature.
Is he still your favourite writer?
Best book ever😝
thanks for posting this.
cant wait to start reading....
i just recently started the girl that loved tom gordon. i wanna trade and get this one from the library but they never seem to have it :[
I have never read a Stephen King book I've seen a sh*t load of his movies they were epic. But I want to read one of his books but witch one should I read? Any reccomendations?
Read this a few months ago and really enjoyed it, so I'm going to read it again in anticipation of the tv series. :)
this is gonna be a great book again of stephen king it's gettin better and better i also have is novels of duma key and after sunset
His movies/miniseries are actually pretty good which you cant say that about most movie adaptions. The Stand was excellent.
i agree but at the same time it would be hard to make the cover interesting when the dome is completely invisible, it would just look like a arty picture of a town. it probably wouldn't draw you in as much you know? but still i completely agree.
I can't help but be a constant reader; it's my ka.
I'm sure it was said many times already here, but this would make an awesome 2 part movie!!!
Definitely my favorite book by now! Wow!!❤️❤️❤️
Finished it. Biggest book I've read. Took me six days to finish. Truly and epic book. And the one person who dislike this book is a Twilight fan. -_-
I love how the squirrel is included in the picture of characters.
This book is so GOOD!
Believe it or not I finished this book in three days. It was just that hard to put down. Big Jim got just what he deserved.
Good trailer for the book and the adaptation.
I think SK is a beautifully ‘neat’ writer . I find all of the characters he writes about interesting and entertaining .
Because of the above I am totally fixated until the very end of his books when I find the endings , including UTD , a little bit of an anti - climax .

How the story end? Do you mind sharring ;) I have been followed from the series but only once a week show is just too long to wait lol
He's an outstanding writer.

@metalfreak4677 i suggest you to begin with Christine.
It's simple and the plot is extraordinary. The dead zone and The running man under the Bachman speudo are great to begin too. Fast to read and really enjoyable.
Hope i could help you :D
@petlover72704 How could Michael C. Hall play Junior? He is 40, and Junior was 20-something.
@rcoiteux
Dad... are you still using this account?
my fav writer!!
He is very prolific and the studio often has to cut corners (characters) to make the program bankable. Did he even write the screenplay? I never expect a movie/program to be as good as the book.
wasn't a big of Under the Dome but King is still King in my book.
@Bromden75 Yeah. Both the covers for the hardcover and the paperback were beautiful. I'd judge the book off of that any day.
@Trascist I agree, I'm 13, and I have been reading Stephen King novels for almost two years. My favourite so far is It. :)
This is one by King that I haven't read. The TV series was entertaining. maybe I'll go pick it up after work.
I'm on about page 145, and so far I've only liked the first 80 pages where most people are getting killed or finding out about the dome.
We all know it'll be made into a movie casting should go like this:
Barbie:Thomas Jane
Junior: Michael C. Hall
Jim Rennie: James Gandelfini
Sam: Jessica Alba
Chef: Christian Bale
Julia: Sandra Bullock
Piper: Laura Linney
What do u think?
@justafidemyself he didn't "Steal" the concept. If anything, he was most likely inspired. There's a difference.
I'm reading it now. Love SK. Have all his books even the hard to find ones. Dolan's Cadalliac anyone? One thing, SK, you can't have CNN playing on the TV with no cable service!! Try and guess which characters which??? 1:59
@degree7 thats bullshit. this was one of the most satisfying ending of any King book i've read. It's all up to the reader.
Thats gotta suck that Stephen has been thinking about this book for over twenty years and when he finally gets down to writing and finishing it, The Simpsons movie comes out only a few months prior with the same idea. I wonder what he thinks of that?
Who's Big Jim?
I loved under the dome was a fantastic bloody read i could not put it down nut i do find that with my stephen king collection though.

Big Jim- one of Stephen King's best bad guys
One of the main characters in Under The Dome.
All his books are masterpieces. I've yet to read one that I have not enjoyed. By far the best are all the Dark Tower books. Totally 19.
So you haven’t read tommyknockers or dreamcatcher. Good for you
There's a lot to break down and digest in this book.
Loved it at first, but now have too many criticisms, mostly of his writing style and what he chooses to emphasize.
Btw, the audio book is fantastic.
