    haveing owned both at different times, ill agree that the LJ Rubicons are the best factory off roader ever produced. I had a 05 LJ like your dads, non Rubi. But im a sucker for XJs, actually im addicted to them lol

    My buddies had TJ and yj JEEPS. They were ok but i didnt like the short wheelbase so i had thought of getting an LJ and then a I found an XJ. To me its perfect it have a short arm pro comp 3.5 lift with 2" spacers front and 1" shackles. 4.88 yukons and 33's.
    Brakes and steering upgrades this summer.

    Great video and I like both Jeeps! I have an XJ with a factory turbo diesel engine and 5 speed and one thing where it would be great is going down obstacle 2, because in 1st gear it is really slow and that engine brakes very well. You would probably be faster as a pedestrian. 😉
    Greetings from Croatia!

    • @wrenchestoadventures
      @wrenchestoadventures  6 месяцев назад +1

      That’s cool, I’ve never seen a XJ in person with the turbo diesel. It’d cool to own one someday. Also I agree! Having a manual helps a lot because you can engine brake.

      Get a license plate that reads "BILLYGOAT' for your XJ! With the diesel, that thing could climb walls! My '93 2-door with the 4L and 5-speed is pretty good off-road. Can't imagine the torque yours makes! Happy wheeling!!

    I love both of your rigs! Great comparison here. In addition to the articulation, long arms help a ton on fast bumpy stuff where the short arms really jack up the vibrations on similar terrain. That is why I am in need of long arms for my XJ.

    I love my 2000 xj. The engine and transmission still run perfectly. I’d like to replace to roof eventually though,

    • @wrenchestoadventures
      @wrenchestoadventures  7 месяцев назад

      I love mine too. Jeep XJs are really impressive off-road rigs. Especially once you do a few mods to the suspension. I had to rebuild the engine in my XJ but the transmission has 322k on it 😂 Still running strong! And there are tons of them in junk yards if you ever need parts.

    hands down im not even gonnah cap, over all extreme terrain and off road capability goes to jeeps and the after market support for rock crawling ect.
    On the other hand for overlanding ,Toyotas takes the win for the reliability and comfort for an overlanding experience

    • @wrenchestoadventures
      @wrenchestoadventures  4 месяца назад +1

      Idk, you can build a pretty mean Toyota rock crawler and very comfortable Jeep overlander. It all depends on where you spend the money when upgrading. Now if you’re talking about a Jeep Vs Toyota in “stock” form I’d agree that the Jeep would have the advantage rock crawling because of the solid front axle. Then overlanding they’d tie.

      The only bad part about the LJ's is the axles. You get a dana 30-35 or dana 44 with a low pinion 44 on the rubicon. A guy i wheel with put jk 44's under his and its pretty sweet. It just cost a bunch of money to get some proper axles. Now you could say the same thing for the XJ. I have a ford 8.8 and a high pinion dana 30. If i wanted a little more reliability i would probably get an aftermarket 44 and call it good.

      I got lucky, we paid $2500 for the set on my dad’s Jeep LJ but the rear locker was missing. I paid $800 for the front one on my XJ. And I think $300 for my rear XJ Dana 44.

      @@wrenchestoadventures dude that’s a pretty sweet deal. I’m running my stock axles with 48 and lockers. They’ve been pretty good to me so far but I don’t do anything crazy. Pretty much the same kind of crawling that you do in your videos. I am debating on whether I should go to wontons or try to find some Dana 44s out of a JK or Wagoneer
