That shifter actually makes 3-point turns nice and easy, making it easy to put it in reverse (and not accidentally putting the car in park.) So yes it's weird but at least there's this one advantage ;-)

You brothers are killing it with the content! 3-4 reviews a week! NICE!
Mazda just killed it with the CX-90. They priced it well against the available competition. The plug-in hybrid seems fully-baked and doesn't present a ton of sacrifices. The interior is very plush(though it is a blunder on why they don't offer the full-tilt luxury of the Turbo S PP on the plug-in). It is content laden. And it looks good.
As for the competition, don't forget about the Lincoln Aviator GT, as well as the JGC 4Xe.

Just for record, my 2020 CX-9 has hands free lift gate. Also, personally, I prefer the center knob for the infotainment. It keeps my from smudging my screen and. It gets pretty easy to use. My main complaint on my CX-9 is that the infotainment is slow to start. The CX-90 seems to have fixed a lot of my minor complaints. Very nice review.

Great camerawork and good back-n-forth commentary. I really like the PHEV setup, but Mazda pushed me towards the Turbo S with their content structure.....i.e. my wife wanted the Tan Napa leather interior as well as the exterior moldings in body color (BOTH of those 'wants' required us to purchase a Turbo S Prem Plus). IF this PHEV CX-90 had 38,39,or 40 miles of Elec-only range, I would have ignored her and bought this PHEV! But at 28 miles range, she would have used the gas engine every day on her 18mile one-way commute (36mile round trip). I SO wanted her to be able to use elec only 5 days a week and recharge at home every night...close, Mazda, very close. I am a very happy owner of a '24 Turbo S PP.

@@kevtn8 .....I predict you will love Mazda's new 8-spd transmission. Both in normal and sport I have had no issues at all. It is a well-geared, sporty transmission. Positive shifts into 2nd and 3rd with near-imperceptible shifts above that. GREAT gas mileage. Sadly, if you are waiting for a CX-70, you will have to wait a little longer since the -70 is delayed til mid-2024. However I saw in person a Japan market CX-60 last month on the streets of Yokohama and it was strikingly good looking. My CX-90 drives great and the top-trim interiors, although expensive, really elevate the ownership experience. Good luck with your purchase.

Something that I've seen in every review of the CX-90 is the apparent lack of room to put your feet if you're sitting in the 3rd row (see 12:43.) It seems that, for whatever reason, there's not enough room to put your toes under the 2nd row seats. Seems odd.

What the computer says for EV range is NOT what you will get. Reviewers that actually drove the CX-90 in EV only mode got 25 miles of range. The CX-90 is rated at 25 mpg in combined driving so charging will only save you 1 gallon of gas.
Some people do not consider this but electricity is not free and in my area it cost the same to charge that battery as the cost for one gallon of gasoline so why pay $4,000 for a PHEV option that does not save you money?
Take your last electric bill(tax and fees included) and divide the cost by the Kwh used. Then multiple 16 Kwh by your calculated electric rate. Compare you cost to charge the battery to the cost of 1 gallon of regular gas. Then figure out how many years it will take to break even on that $4,000 PHEV extra cost

    • @clarkkent9080

With the higher labor cost in US, the price for the Mazda PHEV premium plus will no longer be at $57K, try adding another $5 to $7K to the sticker price. Thus the tax credit even out. Just a note, it's a taz credit, not a US government rebate. If you don't make well over the $100K salary income, it NOT much of an incentive to over pay a car just for the tax credit advantage.

You do realize that in EV mode you are "burning" electrons and electricity is not free. 25 miles of EV range on 16 Kwh of battery capacity or 25 miles (EPA) on one gallon of gas combined driving. So, the most you can save in EV mode is one gallon of gas. My electric rate (including tax and fees is 0.20 per Kwh or $3.20 to charge that battery. Just filled up at Costco at $3.05 per gallon. For me it would be cheaper to run in hybrid mode than EV.
