I painted my fly rod over four years ago with acrylic outdoor paint that comes in small bottles in Walmart craft sections. Took less than one bottle at a cost of around $1.50 then used an outdoor spray enamel to seal it. No issues at all and I use my fly rod a lot!
Theoretically, the concern for cracking due to the flexing of the rod shouldn't be too much of a concern due to the fact that the paint is made for plastics. I wonder how plasti dip would do?
I been thinking about painting 2 of mines to match my 13 fishing baitcasters.. and I'm suprised theres not that many videos out there on this topic.. so I have 3 questions being it's been 5 or so months sense paint job.. (1)how is it holding up ? (2) Caught any big fish on it to see if it would crack the paint ? (3) Ever thought of trying an doing a video it like this one ? I thinkig about doing 1 of the 2 rods I wanna paint, it comes in 11 colors an 1 clear.. ima buy a can of a color I want an just try spraying it on something to see what kind of finish it leaves an decide from there if to try it.. only downside I see is, its gonna add weight to the rod.. how much weight ? will just have weigh the rod first an then weight rod after paint to find out how much weight it will add.. oh, and great video..
It is actually one of my favorite rods still because of the action. It has some scratches but I looked at it the other day and I thought it looked cool still because the black came through. It still is my blue rod and despite the scratches it looks good. If I wanted to I could give it a light coat again and it would look like It did right when i painted it the first time. I definitely will do another rod. Thanks bud hope that helps
Yeah I loved that rod, but I had a said day going fishing one day. Loaded up took off on the water. Started to grab a cast to make a cast and asked the wifey where are the fishing poles and they decided to go swimming along the way somehow.

I love how crafty you are Amanda. I still use my rod to this day and it still is one of my favorites.
Has anyone tried this, I love the way it turned out.
Would like to see a review on how the pant does after using it a few times.
I can do that brent. Thanks bud

Thats an awesome point and I haven't had any cracking issues. I would think plastic dip would work even better.
@@TBassFactory I might have to give it a shot on the St.Croix I picked up for 5 bucks the other day haha

Hobby lobby has a flexible arcylic paint used for cos play foam
That’s cool to know. I wonder if that would work. I fished so many trips with my painted rod and the paint stayed on there really good.
I'm not too concerned about cracking the paint when it flexes since I rarely catch anything! 😅🤣🤣
Ha that’s one way to keep it pristine!
I'm about to paint mine rod setup berry pink 😎 it says it has a gloss finish within it. Still gonna clear coat it at the endb
Oh yeah! That will be a good looking rod.
Depending what model all star rod it is? You might've ruined a good investment! One made in Houston, blanks and hand tied are worth $ or $$?

Kraylon fusion , has flex inhibitors in it . Also comes in a few colors .
Yeah that kraylon is a really good paint
That's pretty cool!
Thanks bud
I’ve done it a few time to match my reels. It’s easier to start from the tip and work your way down(🤔That’s what She Said!).
Ha, good words of wisdom. Love the Office reference.
If you like Steve Carrel, then start watch ‘Space Force’ on Netflix. You’ll laugh like no tomorrow.
Im painting my green on my rod white and some hints of gold to go with my new Johnny morris carbon lite 2.0
Oh yeah! That’s gonna look sweet
What kind of paint and clear coat?
Rustoleum brand that is meant for plastics. I got it at Walmart. I still fish with my painted rod and it still looks good.
@@TBassFactory What was the clear coat?
It was the same brand rustoleum and was also meant for plastic
What do you mean by what's up? should I be looking above me, or are you asking what is wrong?
Yes, I meant look up and hope
Nothings wrong! Ha 😂 Thanks bud!
There’s a couple ‘giggity’ phrases I heard where I could’ve made a that’s what she said joke, but I’m keeping my composure
Where are you from? Nice job
Thanks, I'm from San Antonio texas
How did it turn out did it crack ?
It has gotten a couple smaller scratches, but no cracking whatsoever and I've caught a bunch of bass up to 2 pounds on it.
Spray paint?
It sure is. Rustoleum brand spray paint
Get some rod handle heat shrink
That would totally work! Thanks bud!
Uh why?
You can see the rod alot better for the videos, and i wanted to see how it would look.
My rod has flames on it lol
Ha, I bet that looks sweet
@@TBassFactory it does 😎😎😎
