Thanks for the information chuck I had a handle on one of my musky rod that was all chewed up so I did what you said I altered it just slightly I used Elmers golden Oak wood filler after it was all sanded and done like you showed it looks excellent What a difference the only thing I did after that was I took kiiwi shoe protectant like a silicone sprayed the handles to protect it from the water a little bit. Thank you for all the info.!!
For those that don't like the look of the wood filler, try this. Take some old wine corks and either put them on a grinder with a collection tray underneath to catch the ground up cork. I don't have a grinder so I cut up pieces and put them in a mini food processor to grind them up to a fine mix. Mix with wood glue and fill your spaces with that compound. It looks much better and will absorb sealer. I like the u40 cork seal BTW.
Looks great. I have a rod that’s in worst condition. I will use your technique. I heading to store to get the supplies needed on Monday. Thanks a million. Don
I never knew you could fix the cork on a rod. I have some falcon rods that i've hade for 30 years and now looking forward to bring them back from the dead. Thanks Chuck.
I'm going to try this treatment on my St. Croix 'Tidemaster'. Your old cork handle looks great. Wife's favorite heirloom tablecloth from her grandmother, not so much! I
Chuck, I am a big fan of cork handle rods. Been using them for darn near 30 years. I like what you did and I will go home and restore my Berkley Lighting Rod. It does tend to get a little slippery when it's raining. Thanks for the video and thanks for what you do.
Nice video and good info on keeping your cork handles looking new! I use cork sealer on mine and clean them at least a few times a year. It really seems to help keep them looking new. Thanks again!
Almost no one does this how I do it type of series or tutorials so they are great this one was just on time I have a pole that I was working on already so now I can apply this to the cork handles
Glad I found this video, I've got some cork handles to fix... I'm going to seal the cork after then put on some X Grip heat shrink handle grip afterwards... Hopefully they won't need fixing again after that... Lol
Great video Chuck! This video inspires me to do this to my rods this winter up in Indiana. Let’s see under water video footage of your new soft plastic baits.
I’ve been wanting to replace the cork and a few rods myself , so now I think I’m gonna try this now, so that’s pretty sweet way to do it . Hopefully it will turn out as good as yours did, I may stain mine to make it all one color. Looks good though man
I love these tackle care vids. I think I would fish it after the wood filler without sanding. As much as I fish I'd have the filler worn down to the cork in no time just from my hands. Sweet giveaway and thanks for the opportunity!
Would you recommend this process for concrete tool handles? I love a particular tool but they seem to spilt directly over the center of the handle overtime and wanted to know about a product that does great for strength/protection and is good in wet/sweaty hands. And who would know better than a fisherman! Lol Thanks in advance man!
You made it look easy, Just as you do when you fish. Great tutorial. As always another fun and informative video. Looking forward to upcoming “how I do it” videos. Have you done one on how to replace the eyelets on a rod? Thanks again for sharing🐟😊
Day late on the giveaway but good info. Do enjoy the how you do it videos. Wouldn’t mind a good maintenance video. One question I have a 13 fishing fate black and to me the grip at the reel is a little small can it be replaced? Thanks
Hi Chuck , im new to your channel , i like this how to and also , what watch is that that you were wearing in the beginning of the vidieo please , thanks in advance !!!
I varnish my cork handles with 3 - 4 coats of polyurethane and light rub down with fine (600+) paper. It looks good, feels nice in the hand and is easy to wipe down.
Nice. I like these videos but every year there are new baits etc... I would like to know what you use during these transition times. I've been struggling lately
Sweet Giveaway at the end! Thanks for watching.🎣
Who got it

Great info. Glad it turned out.

Great restoration video for those who have older worned out cork handle rods.
Thanks! I appreciate that. 👊🏻

Thanks! Great video. Wondered how to restore the poles we have with cork handles. thumbs up.
Never even thought about doing this . Well I got a new project for all my fly rods now
Thanks! Let me see how they turn out.
Clever way to keep handles looking new.
Thanks Chris!

Love 13 fishing gear too! Have 4 set ups now, 2 casting, 2 spinning👍
I'm 2 yrs late on this video...but it sure came in handy today ....Great video..
Thanks! I’ll still reply. Even to 2 year old videos! 👍🏻
Great information. I have a G-Loomis rod with a cork handle . I will get working on it tomorrow. How long does the filler last ?
Thank you for sharing
It’ll last just as long as the original filler did if you put some sort of sealer on it. I didn’t with this rod and it lasted a good while.
Almost no one does this how I do it type of series or tutorials so they are great this one was just on time I have a pole that I was working on already so now I can apply this to the cork handles
Thanks! Maybe I need to do some more, “how I do it’s”.
Great video, will use it for sure !!
Nice video chuck, be good to see a reel service video next perhaps?
Ooh, I’m sure a lot of people would have some opinions on how I clean & service my reels. Lol
Good stuff Chuck. Never crossed my mind to refinish my cork handles. You have to stay looking good for your sponsors!!
Good info Chuck, do more videos like this. Maybe reel, boat & trailer maintenance as well.
Thanks Todd. I’ll have a lot of boat videos coming out, especially next year.
Glad I found this video, I've got some cork handles to fix... I'm going to seal the cork after then put on some X Grip heat shrink handle grip afterwards... Hopefully they won't need fixing again after that... Lol

Brandon Bonnell thanks. We’re getting some new baits in this week. I’ll definitely be posting
Good info brother. Sweet rod, I usually clean and put a light coat of mineral oil on my rods. Will definitely check this out! Thanks
I appreciate it. 👊🏻

Kyle Hill give it a try. Let me know how it works out. 👍🏻
Tricks of the trade make for great videos!
That's how I roll.🙂 Going to seal some with U40 cork sealer and use that frog tape. 🎣
Thank you I have two rods I will be salvaging with your help.
Thanks for watching! Glad I could help 👊🏻
Great job, my rod really needs it, I am going to give it a try, thanks.
Going to have to try this , looks good and pretty simple.
It was pretty easy, and not too messy. Let me know how it turns out.
I got a couple of cork handle rods I might try that on, great video
If you do, let me know how it works
How often should I reseal cork rods I haven’t found anything online and wonder how long it last on regularly used rods
I’m not sure. Cork lasts a long time. Can be cleaned and sealed several times.
I love these tackle care vids. I think I would fish it after the wood filler without sanding. As much as I fish I'd have the filler worn down to the cork in no time just from my hands. Sweet giveaway and thanks for the opportunity!
Thanks James. Same here. I could sand it down with my own hands in about a week.
Great vid, thanks for sharing the knowledge. Id love to see some reel maintenance videos if possible
Thanks Luis! I’ll get some reel repair videos put together.
That is a very nice how you do video. Looks good when done right.
Thanks Thomas. I appreciate it. Super easy to do.
Amazing! Thought it be harded but you explain it perfectly.

Thanks Connie. No, I have not done one on that. I was going to add it into this video, but thought I’d save it for another.
Good video! I have a few defy black rods I want to do this to!
That was very interesting learn something new today thank you very much
Thanks. 👍🏻👊🏻
Great video, very informative!
Awesome vid as always Capt. I'll have to do this to my rods. How do you like that hook keeper? Pretty cool.
Glad you like the video. Yep, I do like the hook keeper on that rod.

Thanks Corey! The thumper’s are just about ready to ship. We’ll be announcing them soon!
Way cool!! I have a couple rods that could use that!! Thanks!!
Hope the video helps. Let me know how it works for you.
Im going to try this Chuck, how long do u think it's going to last.
Probably just as long as the original filling added by the manufacturer. It’s basically the same stuff they use.
Day late on the giveaway but good info. Do enjoy the how you do it videos. Wouldn’t mind a good maintenance video. One question I have a 13 fishing fate black and to me the grip at the reel is a little small can it be replaced? Thanks

Thanks! I appreciate it. Lol. My watch is an Armani X
wouldn't some stain help blend that filler into the cork better?
I used some alcohol to just clean cork worked great try it some time.
Great great video
Thank you! 💪🏼
How old was this rod before the reconditioning?
Liking the content, and yes how you do it are cool in addition to the fishing.
Thanks Duane. I should have a few more coming out over the next few months

This is a great tip, man saw that therapy vlog u couldn't get a word in seemed like... 🤯🤷♂️

Pretty Nifty! Thanks, I'll have to share it with my fb fishing friends.
When are the speed worm Thumper Pros going to be available
Soon. Hopefully, next week or so.
Great videos thanks chuck
You should probably wrap the non-cork areas with tape before sanding so things don't get all scratched up.
Nice. I like these videos but every year there are new baits etc... I would like to know what you use during these transition times. I've been struggling lately
Same here. It’s always a struggle this time of year. I’ve caught a few big fish lately, but the numbers aren’t there.
What about a rubber cork fan i rix rubber cork with anything
Really helpful advice
Great information !!!!
Nice Video I love How to's an this is great!
Bryan Molla Thanks Bryan! I appreciate it. 👊🏻
Thanks gona redo mine as well
You just dropped someone’s soon to be née rod 🤣🤣🤣 great video as always!
Lol. Thanks
October 30th cant come soon enough. Definitely buying some thumpers.
Nice
I think I’d have taped before sanding.
looks like crap with the big white spots blotched in there, i tried it and came out the same like crap.
Seems like you did it wrong Jimbo. Thanks for the useless comment.
Canned air is your friend
Love 13products
👍🏻 they’re the best!
Yea My cork ain't what it used to be
80 grit is way too coarse.
Sanding 101...you can't go from 80 to 220 in one step. Need to have another step or two before getting to 220.
I'm sorry but that handle with the chunks of wood filler looks like shit.
RUINED !!!
Thanks Bruce!
@@ChuckPippinBassFishing ya i ruined my last rod too
