  • This week, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund Scotland, we Take a Minute to explore the story behind the grand Egyptian and Greek inspired Alexandria Library. 📚🏛️
Originally built as an alternative for young men to the many drinking holes in the Vale at the time, the building has been a central part of Alexandria since 1884 and has recently been updated again to modern standards. It also contains a small history museum with some very interesting artefacts! 🔍

This part of Scotland seems to have been forgotten.

I was in that building a lot as a kid. My Mum was a Home Help & she would collect her pay packet from the Council in that building. We would then visit the library & I’d sit in the little kids table section until she chose her books. I also learned how to read before I got to school by being a library member. I stayed a member right into my late teens until I moved to Glasgow.
