I done a big shite in the right hand side of the engine room in 1989. Could you check if it’s still there? It’ll be well shrivelled but it was a hefty load, so I reckon half will be there. It would be great to be reacquainted with it again

But have they stopped the underpass from regularly flooding? Aunt Wilma lived for many decades at 13 Station Rd, so College St and the underpass should have been good route onto the High St, but even when I visited just 3 years ago, the water was 2ft deep.

In the late sixties and early seventies, when they were doing their regular dynamiting at the Dumbuck quarry, Nana Hendry would run around her little Dumbarton flat screaming "THE GERMANS ARE COMING THE GERMANS ARE COMING!" We, as kids, thought this was absolutely hilarious. No one had then heard of PTSD. Some bombs intended for Clydebank fell on Dumbarton, including one that hit a tenement in the New Town ("Newton") area, just one street away from where the family lived. A woman in the tenement who hadn't gone to a shelter died, only being identified when they found her finger with the wedding ring still on it.

I lived in Westerton and in the summer my parents took us on the train which ran all the way to the landward end of Balloch pier. Then the brisk walk to the steamer and on board for the sail up the loch. We used to get off and have our picnic on the lochside We would spend a few hours at the chosen place then get on the last sail back to Balloch. Can clearly remember being at Inversnaid one time when my dad suddenly said we had to rush to the pier or we would miss the boat. The picnic was flung back in the basket and off we charged. Back on the boat I used to like to stand and look at the engines with various parts shining like silver as the moved back and forward, and the smell of oil from the engine room. A great day out. We would definitely have been there in 1953 and perhaps on the first trip. Happy days.
