    Brings back memories of my uncles circular mill with edger. Ran by small diesel and belts. Efficient.

    Ni e little mill, quite labour intensive by some standards but looks very well maintained. I'd love to see what they've got in the saw shop, thats the real heart of any sawmill.

      Interesting point , the fact the log turns were called niggers at first is due to the fact the mill would use it's biggest, strongest man to turn the logs and in most cases that was a black man

    Sure is and I've seen MANY a day an old Frick circle mill powered by a GM/Detroit 4-71 keep 6 people hopping. HOPPING!

    Very nice mill , it cuts a little slower than a circle mill but well makes up for it with the thin kurf..

      but seriously did it after the sawn product was on the ground for a month? How much checking, now and yaw was still in timber.. yup nice to see the mill but we dont see anything apart from the green off saw after drying and ready for pressure treating? Im thinking through my pressure treatment plant id have rejected the lot. Not enough care, not enough attention to the log and just a small spit it out skunk fight..

    An old Frick circle mill with edger will run circles around most small band mills. Ran the edger behind a Frick circle mill when younger and you knew you put in a day's work after 8 or 10 hours.

    I would love to own a band mill like this but powered by a large steel overshot water wheel along side a small river.
    I enjoy that this Amish mill is so quiet compared to other sawmill videos I have watched with large circular saws.

    wood mizer's are home owners type mill. you are right the amish guys have the real deal commercial mills. this slow mill in the vid is super slow. our local amish mill is 4x faster. they have a crazy lil 10 yr old who is way better with a forklift than i am LOL. good ppl the amish.

    Back when I had to walk 10 miles to school and back I I worked at a sawmill like this but the mill was powered by a water wheel. lol

    Me gusta este carro porta rolas pero no con cintas o bandas de corta debido a que acá es muy difícil personal técnico en afilado .preferiblemente usar sierra de disco circular de diámetro entre 80 y 120 mmde diámetro accionado por motor de 70 HP.Sgradezco su respuesta.

      It looks like it was built from parts of different sawmills, but I'm not sure about it. But it's a good job and a nice sawmill.

    What do they do with the sawdust, the slab boards and the slab boards that need edging?

      Sawdust is used for horse bedding. Slab wood is used for firewood. Boards are edged either on the mill or the edger that is run on the same belt system.

      @@BarnGeek I looked up an old sawyer when I was putting my circular saw together. He was in his 90's and his saw was idle . He told me that his first job as a boy was to buck up the slabs on a buzzsaw, load it in a cart, and deliver it with a horse to every house in the village. People got a weekly supply for their cookstoves. Softwood slabs dry really fast and make a very hot fire. It's great in the summertime because the fire dies quickly when it's not being fed so it doesn't heat up the house, and even little kids can split it.

    Nice machine, operating it without gloves or eye protection let alone hearing protection ain't where it's at. No guards around drive system and open gears is also very dangerous.

    Interesting. Almost entirely fabricated from tube and bar stock. Only castings I see are the gears and bearing housings. With no foundries left, the only way to get one now.

      Yes, they don't use electricity, but they do use stationary internal combustion engines. This sawmill is run by a stationary engine, driven by belts.

    This might not be faster than a woodmizer, but that mill with a 56” circular saw will out cut a woodmizer all day long

      I have a woodmizer LT40 super hyd. and a 48" headrig mill with a 6-71 theres no comparison

      @@sociallyunaceptable981 Not hardly my #2 meadows would made very tight toleranced lumber. Way more accurate than 99% of band mills. Not to mention that it was scary fast compared to this mill or and small scale bandmill that exists. Plus with a good blade and j the right setup 1/4 inch kerf was very attainable with a quality circle mill and most band saw mills are right at half of that..

    I don't think a, WoodMizer was every noted as being fast , they are noted for good sizes, smooth cuts, and thin kerf

      @@BarnGeek so let’s talk about circle saw mills take ten log of the same size and compare board footage Between a band mill then figure out dollars in the extra lumber you get from a band mill

      @@rickdunn7585 Yes, that is true, however the mill in the video IS a band saw mill. So my comparison is with two different styles of Band Sawmill. We can talk about circle mills if you want, but that isn't the subject of this video.

    My Belsaw is faster than a standard LT40 manual mill, yeah.
    All day long and there’s no wavy wood.

    10:00 should not keep cutting it like this..grains are running different directions. Should keep turning it over to cut a a new piece to keep grains same direction. And leave that center (pith) to the end cause it's mainly useless.

    I really love how the Amish and bretheren are really trying justify their commercial capacity.. like your mill a woodmizer has its position within the market are you selling this set up commercially to paddock operators or just hiding behind religion to highlight old gear that you have built yourself to hang crap on others?

    With ten times the horsepower it should be ten times as fast! The reality is this IS cheating for Amish. If it were steam powered like my grandfathers back in the 40s and 50s it would be more in line with Amish values. BTW: We are not Amish.
