  • “Balcony Scene and Love Dance” from «Romeo and Juliet» ballet by Sergei Prokofiev (Soviet Russia 1891 - 1953) choreography created in 1965 by Kenneth MacMillan (Scotland 1929 - 1992) Based on the epilogue by Adrian Piotrovsky on the original drama in three acts by William Shakespeare, Prokofiev composed it in September 1935 and after much controversy among Soviet cultural officials, the full ballet was premiered in the Mahen Theatre, Brno, in what is now the Czech Republic.
    This version with the Royal Ballet Sinfonia conducted by Boris Grusin is staged by the Royal Ballet in Covent Garden, with the Cuban ballet director Carlos Acosta as Romeo, dances alongside his regular partner, the Spanish ballerina, Tamara Rojo; a celebrated stage partnership which currently has no equal. The drama of the doomed lovers is set against the ravishing sets and costumes designs of Nicholas Georgiadis.
    The music is both harsh and sublime just listen to the famous dance of the knights with the “Montagues and Capulets” that overwhelms for the aggressive attitude between these two contended families and then listen to this scene with Romeo and Juliet by the Balcony which is one of the most romantic music by any modern composer.
    Hun: Tamara Rojo
    Han: Carlos Acosta

    There is no doubt that this is certainly a beautiful love scene, but (to me) the Spartacus Adagio is even more moving and beautiful. I would love seeing these two dancers performing Khachaturian's masterwork.

    • @1106gary
      @1106gary Год назад +1

      RUclips has the adagio with Acosta. I don't remember the name of the ballerina. I prefer the Spartacus adigio music. ( The best music in this R and J is sometimes called the dance of the Knights.) R and J is more about the joy of young love. Spartacus is more a consummated sex scene.

    I just watched A. Ferri, A.Corella version.
    I Find it the most convincing version, both so youthfull, elated about discovering love,, joyfull like puppies, their bodies types so perfectly matching.
    I like this Juliette too, very interesting, unusual face, they dance very well too but they dont grab me like Ferri and Corella.
    The least convincing i find is Bolle and Copeland, both around 30 and do not convey the youthfulness, innocence of the 14 years olds.

    • @philophilm
      @philophilm  4 года назад +2

      Lately this ballet has reached the sky! And therefore there are so many versions. Some better than others and some more technical and some more romantic. And as usual it is a matter of taste and individual preferencies. There is ONE thing for sure: Prokofiev was a musical genius!
