I think the solution might have to be making augments stronger than synergies as a general rule. Obviously not sure, but the thought would be that you can't solve the format as easily if there's a wide variety of options for gameplay that change what's optimal. IE, if there's only 50 data points for a build rather than the hundreds there are currently, maybe that will reduce the reliability and value of data
There's many big things devs can do to avoid 'solved' metas resolving down to a handful of comps. For me, the big one is that people who are contested should just lose. It should be impossible to be contested by 2 people and win the lobby. One way of doing that would be to put a cap on the total number of units of any given trait that can be in the game, so if you're contested it's likely your trait runs out before you get a 2* 4 cost or a 5-cost. Another way would be to put more emphasis on transitions into the later game. Bumping up the number of different 5-cost units and their drop rates at high levels so that you're pressured into dropping your early units and replacing them with whatever 5-costs you get. It could be cool to see 5-costs dropping at a decent rate as early as level 7, and 2* 5-costs dropping at level 9 and 10 - push people into transitioning their build throughout the game based on the legendaries they find, rather than just collecting a finished build from the beginning. This means emblems have to be significantly reduced (or at least available only in the late-game), because emblems are almost a hard-commit to a specific build. Most extreme: Not all units are available every game. Force people to adapt based on the pool of units available, rather than following a fixed plan every game. Maybe each unit in the set has 2 modes, only one of which is active in any given game.
A. That'd be such negative/toxic gameplay. People playing chicken and going "me x no pivot /mute all" or multiple people being mutually screwed over due to not being able to hit. All augments and all items would have to be made equally viable for all comps too, which is just not going to happen. B. That'll just be like set 7 with 5 costs instead of dragons. First to hit the best ones pretty much automatically wins. C. That's just Mutant. Meta tier lists will just take the variations into account.
Could you have gambled on the BIS tg augment for your 3rd augment? That would have been sweet.. Is that like an insta win if you get both tg augments (the ones that improve the tg, not the one that just gives you one)
I mean there is really no solution to balancing this game. It's too reliant on probability and RNG. Yea you can manipulate it to have the best chance of winning but at the end of the day, a perfectly competitive game is affected by little to no RNG. Basically every game in existence has some reliance on RNG but the more there is the more non-competitive the game is.
too much RNG involved for there to be a solution to fix tft. there have been games where i rolled the 4 and 5 cost units i need at level 6 and 7 and no one else had a change. theres also been games that i don't get any of the units i need even when uncontested. the game is dependent on RNG and luck

Here's a solution: larger amount off different units, less general augments and player specific "forcing" encounters.
