I’ve read three books from this list - The Empress of Salt and Fortune, Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars, and The Subtweet - and all were phenomenal! I loved the formatting of The Empress of Salt and Fortune and how the objects found in the home are used to prompt memories and stories as a way of knowledge sharing. I was so deeply engaged in the character relationships, as well. While Fierce Femmes was a deeply personal novel and dealt with a lot of heavy topics, it was SUCH a fun read. The Subtweet sucked me in immediately and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. It does not shy away from the complexities of the characters’ relationships, politics, and art, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. I’m so excited to check out The Black Tides of Heaven, The Order of the Pure Moon, The True Queen, and Phoenix Extravagant! (As well as the sequel to The Empress of Salt and Fortune of course.) Your description of the Order of the Pure Moon gives me Sarah Gailey vibes??? Thank you so much for these recommendations!
_Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars_ is actually on my TBR for the Queer Lit Readathon, and I feel like I got the rec from one of your videos, so thanks!
lgbtq + asian?? never clicked faster!! 😻 love all these recs, and I'm also excited to read zen cho's novel that was just released this month, black water sister!
I for sure wrote down a few of the recs! I’m hoping to make my June tbr out of LGBTQA+ suggested books from other booktubers. I’ll for sure link this video with my post if you’re okay with this!
Aaaaah added five books on my TBR! I hadn’t heard of them from any other booktuber I follow. Thanks so much! Pls do more underrated books videos when possible. 💜 Also, looooove your earrings.
Have you read anything by Qiu Miaojin? I loved Notes of a Crocodile and she's soooo underrated imo. Also, the songs mentioned in the book are a bop. I have a lot of these either on my tbr or am currently reading them. I'm especially excited to start on Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars.
The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water was such a delight to listen to (narrator Cindy Kay is amazing!), the humor in the book is so good, I listened to the book last year and it was one of my 2020 faves. I'll be reading Black Water Sister soon and I'm excited.
Thank you for the amazing recs! A lot of these are on my tbr and this makes me want to read them even more. I will also definitely add Pizza Girl, it sounds so good and I've never heard of it before
the black tides of heaven is one of my all time favourite fantasy books and the order of the pure moon reflected by water is also great! i look forward to looking into more of these ✨ also that cover of pizza girl is so much nicer than the one i had omg
I just heard someone else talking about Pizza Girl yesterday for the first time. I'm going to have to pick it up. Love the Singing Hills Cycle. I'm hoping Vivek Shraya will publish another novel one day because she has a really interesting way of writing long form work & has such a unique perspective to write from.
vivek shraya? kai cheng thom? queen of taste! I've read or had in my tbr most of these but now I have two new recs! I never heard of girls made of snow and glass or of phoenix extravagant before and our tastes are so similar that now I trust your recomendations implicitly and if the premise sounds good I immediately add more books to my tbr lol
i think you would enjoy yoon ha lee's "conservation of shadows" which is a short story collection of this philosophical handwavy sci-fi in the vein of "this is how you lose the time war." it may not be everyone's cup of tea but i really liked it.
I'm on the hold for When the Tiger came down the Mountain, I can't wait to get to it soon c: I read The Black Tides of Heaven in May and I thought the gender aspect was super interesting! I've never read something like that before and am wondering why not more ficitonal books have had that aspect in them. Especially in fantasy where we get all kinds of species. But maybe I'm just living behind a rock and everyone knows books similar to this one. You're make-up look goes so well with he cover of Phoenix Extravagant 🧡🐉
I love the Singing Hill series! They're also among the top nominees for the Hugo award so I think they're slowly rising in popularity. I also heard there are going to be at least 3 more books in this series .< I added Fierce Femmes from your recommendations!
Ohhhhh, most of these are on my tbr list, so thanks for validating my interest in those ✨🌈 But I wasn't aware that there was a sapphic 'sequel' to a sorcerer to the crown (which was okay) so thanks for informing me of that 💖
i’m excited to read fierce femmes, it sounds so good. has anyone read it’s not like it’s a secret? it’s about 2 high school girls who fall in love. the MC is Japanese and her love interest is Mexican. it’s a beautiful book!
RE: your description --- I indeed know of all these recs but don't let that fool you into thinking your taste isn't niche because it definitely is, I had to dig DEEP to even find these in the first place 💀 I kinda wish I'd found your channel earlier, back when I was fed up & looking for non-white recs (I'm still fed up & always looking for non-white books, so I'll always be looking forward to your recs. Speaking of, I read some of the recs from your socialist/social justice video & also your anti-capitalist/decolonization video that made so many loose things click, it "leveled up" my views for the lack of a better phrase because I was on the right track but i hadn't made certain connections yet, so thank you.) 😀 P.S i just caught up on your videos and i hope your feeling better and doing okay after the fall! 💖
I love this channel because I feel like I genuinely discover new great books I’ve never heard of before. Please keep it up!
thank you!
