Interesting concept. Good for making people think about the value of themselves and others. If we get to the point where you can easily be duplicated like that, you could be copied over and over, reset, modified, etc like any other set of data. It would be interesting to do with important people. Just bring up a copy of any dead celebrity you want to talk to, get advice or lessons from, "adult encounters", resolve lingering resentment toward parents, etc....
I love VR. It's an awesome way to connect and socialize with people all over the world, or bring you to places you could never visit in real life. But imo there should always be a distinction between VR and real life. Some things just can't be replaced. Real life should always come first.

This reminds me of a game I can't remember the name of... But the main character also gets his brain scanned, and then wakes up hundreds of years later in the body of a robot. Spoiler alert: It was the end of the world and everyone had already made a copy of their brain to be put in this virtual computer that was going to be sent to outer space. But everyone had died before the capsule could be brought to space. The protagonist with the help of one of the scientists trapped in a computer, sets out to complete the mission, and even put his own self in the virtual machine. But things don't work out as he expects it to, no matter how much the scientists keeps and keeps explaining it to him... When computers moves a file to another place, it doesn't actually move the original file. It makes a copy of it, and downloads it to a new location. Then it either delete the original file, or has you do it manually. There's even a part in the game, that in order to progress you have to move yourself into another type of robot. And for a few seconds, there are TWO of you, and the scientists quickly deletes the version of you that was playing from the beginning. This was very disturbing to the main character, but he later forgets what happens and acts surprised at the ending. At the end of the game, after you finally sent the virtual time capsule thing to space. The protagonist is freaking out because he's still on earth and not in "heaven". The scientists is frustrated that he kept ignoring her explanations and gets cut off from a power outage. You then see the virtual protagonist's prospective in the time capsule. Blissfully unaware, or maybe chosen ignorance, that there are two of him. And the previous version of him is still suffering alone on earth.
