- Pickup trucks are the workhorses of the car segment, they are meant to be tough, haul cargo, and can even go off-road. But there is a small segment out there that prefers to have a 4x2 model instead. This now raises the question, why do automakers sell their pickup trucks with 4x2 models, and do you actually need a 4x4 system? Find out as we compare and review a Nissan Navara 4x2 VE versus its 4x4 counterpart the Nissan Navara Pro4x on this episode of Behind the Wheel.

I like when you said the financial reality sets in. I remember walking into a dealership and they had they only had their top spec variants on display, suffice to say when i finally got a quote I was brought to reality quite quickly. What got me even more was that you couldnt see or drive the lower spec models, suffice to say i didnt purchase from them.
Exactly the first thing I thought about when I bought my pickup, VE's will be good for the normal drives around the city, but living in Baguio and working as an architect with sites on top of mountains, I opted for the Pro4x for the convenience ,comfort and the confidence of driving my car to my sites without me worrying about getting stuck in the mud or struggling to climb steep driveways. It all boils down to the purpose of the car, if it's gonna be driven around the city then VE will be the best choice.
pg city drive ok lang ba mg 4x2 , plus kargahan?
@@zeafreeks more tha enough
@@zeafreeks sobra sobra na kahit anong pick up for kargahan on city driving
@@zeafreeks yep. Got a VE and usually carry construction materials around. Heaviest i carried was 40 bags of tile adhesive around 850kilos and traveled 200kms to the site.
agpayso dayta, sir
Much praise to you sir and your team for putting this awesome video together your the most honest and on point person and I have to say I’ve seen a lot of videos but not to my liking and I’m happy I came across your video. God bless you guys
More videos like this! Most of the people are interested on the low - mid variant than the top ones.
The effort of making these videos ❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥
Going to get our 4x2 navara this weekend. This video helped us decide 😊
Thank you for your video… I purchased my Nissan Navara 12 months ago, struggled with the decision of 4x4 or 4x2. In Australia the ST-X model is optioned the same. Since I drive most of the time in the city I got the 4x2… have taken it off road on dry dirt tracks and had no problems. The 4x2 suits my needs, cheaper to purchase, and cheaper to run.
I'm from South Africa and bought a 4x2 Navara 2 days ago. I am extremely happy with my purchase and not missing any 4x4. The vehicle is also much more economical to run.
Thanks, a channel that has an English title and description and a presenter that ONLY talks in English!
Channels that write in English but keep switching to Taglish attract more down votes and lower watch time.
GREAT video!
I’ve been watching your videos app and I have to say that is like you made these videos especially for me. I mean your presentation and lots of information you put on this video is awesome keep up the great work Po. God bless you
That Autodeal shirt looks mighty fine. Can we have one?
You're great! I love my 4x2 2022 Nissan Navara BTW -
Sir Caco this is a very informative video.Great job👌
Well,if others prefer a pick-up truck like any other trucks available out there and you will drive it mostly city driving only, whether loaded with stuff at the back or not then 4x2 is more than enough for you. But,if you take it oftentimes than not going to the highlands and face with more dirts and muddy terrain or any upward or downslope specially in the rocky mountain side, plus loaded with cargo stuff, I suggest go for the 4x4 pick-up truck!
After all, a pick-up truck is always a UTE!truck will always be of help according to your specific need.Have a great day everyone😊
If you have a second car like SUV or sedan, I think your pick up truck should be 4x4. It is nice to have at least 1 4x4 car.
Merry christmas autodeal
400k plus difference or 600k difference with interest if loaned.., My 4x2 LSA Isuzu Dmax is 16 months old but I did not experience stuck on the road, from city to our province has a good road condition. I am satisfied with 4x2 and made it a limiter to avoid extreme ofroad and to limit dents, scratches.
This is vlogging is all about - conversing, not narrating, the facts with your audience..🎉
Merry Christmas autodeal family.
Well for me, the main reason why 4x2 is so popular here in the philippines is affordability. Many Filipinos have been dreaming to own a pickup truck for a reasonable price and 4x2 is the answer. For pickup purist a pickup must be a 4x4 thats the essence of a pickup truck. Though most of the time you dont need a 4x4 capability but as what common knowledge says "better have it and not need it than need it and not have it"
I strongly agree with you Sir, me I have a 4X4 Strada and mostly some of my friends here in Mindanao who owns a 4X2 pick up always regret that he should have taken a 4X4 instead of taking a 4X2.
I own a 2016 Navara Calibre 4x2 Manual. Very satisfied with my purchase as I don't need the 4x4 and all the bells and whistles of the higher variants. Best value pick up for me as I have owned about 10 pick ups already in my lifetime. Although the Mitsubishi Strada is also a close competition.
why is strada a close competition?
wow 10 pick ups
3:16 3:30 3:31
I'm also going to say this
For my own opinion too,.My mom owns a 4x2 SUV! That as well can take her and also our family from point-a to point-b,,..Plus climbing up a hill then it also not a big deal too plus the comfort too
As well as the affordability of it too,.Since the price is also lower than a 4x4
So yeah,.If it can get you from point-a to point-b owning and buying a 4x2 car weather it's a pick-up truck,,..Or an SUV (neither big or small) as long as your riding in style and comfort plus the safetyness of being inside
YOU ARE GOOD,.To go 👍
I love my navara EL manual trans. same results, same performance, same satisfaction as to other variant, longlife and easy maintainenance
Not same performances, since the EL variant is lower on power and torque, compared to other Navara's variants.
Hi sir, kamusta manual so far? Also, yung fuel consumption?
If budget is not an issue then go for 4x4.... yung jeepneys nga sa Baguio mga 4x2 lang kayang-kaya fully loaded pa.
Happy hunting to your next purchase 😊
Eventually I’m still gonna get a good pick up truck no matter what and I wanted to say sir thanks for this great video 🙂🇵🇭🇵🇷
If you tow, you will benefit from the 4x4.
Off roading is an additional benefit, not to mention storms flooding etc.
Hi sir, can we request a video on how to use each system of a 4x4? When and where yo use it. Thanks. More blessings 🙏
In terms of 4x4,. Would u prefer Manual Transmission or Automatic Transmission,.?
Im contented and proud i own the VE 4X2
I would love it if you guys can take a look at the chery tiggo 8 pro phev
Well laid out differences 👍
How about the Nissan X-trail e-power, available na ba sya sa Pinas?

Boss pa review naman ng MUX 1.9 RZ4E. Is the base model really good?
Hey caco 22km/l sa ve? Ano po ung takbo ninyo at nasa Ilan na gear Po kayo?
Are there 4x2 pickup's or suv's that have rear diff lock in the Philippines?
Can Caco pls do a review on the onitsuka maybe? 🤭
Good info!
Navara 4x2 the vl calibre, and calibre x has the best value for money in my opinion because it has complete features only small difference on the vl 4x4 is the 4wd system, offroad monitor, and rear diff lock as for calibre x has the same exterior features from pro4x but the same 4wd tech as vl 4x4
Number 1! Finally!
Does the VL comes with all the features as well?
Navara VE or Calibre X ? I think calibre x is a good choice, because it has that prox4 looks and details. It is the same 4x2
Yeah nicer look, but the calibre x cost almost as much as the top of the line 4x4 AT VL.
Abroad some countries get a Pro2X, which is a calibre x variant, with more off-road capabilities, since it got a rear diff lock on a 4x2 configuration.
having a 4x2 ranger ,95% of the time I wud think I dnt need a 4x4 on the roads I travel.
But on the times that I wish I had a 4x4, I jst hate myself for getting a 4x2.
At end of the day Im jst happy I hv a car, wer my kids are safe ,and nt under the heat of the sun and we dnt get wet when trvelling in the rain. Stop cmplaining people 😁😅🙏
But still for us the 7% that actually uses the 4x4 we need a base or mid range 4x4 automatic because we don't need all the bells and whistles of the top off the line infact its very annoying when you use it off road and the savings that we would get will go for purchasing a new set of tires
So true, real 4x4 users just need mud tires and the radio.
applied na po ba excise tax for pickup come jan 1st 2023?
Do you have a review for JAC T8 Pro?
Sir pareview namn po ang JAC T8 ultimate.
4X2? What are the two wheels it’s powering? Please use the terms like FWD and RWD
While it feels good to always getting the best that we can afford, I don’t think it is always what we need, just like a 4x4 vehicle. I don’t think we need 4x4 trucks or SUVs if it isn’t really a part of our lifestyle. We just have to choose the best 4x2 out there. It’s a good thing I was able to get a 10-speed 4x2 AT ford wildtrak with differential lock before they changed it back to the basic 4x2 specs. Just my opinion. No bashing. 😊
Yeah one of the few considerations between Ford and other brand's lower variants/4x2. They nerfed the non wildtrak variants masyado, if you look at this Nissan VE busog parin sa features, lamang pa sa Hilux G variant (interior specs lang ha).
Tama brad. Kng di nmn magooffroad at s city lng gagamitin walang sense ang 4x4. Isang araw k kng sikat s kapitbahay mo tapos nun wala n di manlang nagamit 4x4
Bright boy.
It’s good to have it, when you need!..good resale value.

@@utoytotoy6416 Don’t get me wrong! You’ll regret getting a 4x2. It don’t matter if you live in the city. Anyway, its a personal choice. Peace!
So... Is there a 4x2 pick-up comparo coming soon?
Kumuha ako ng Colorado Trail Boss dahil sa AutoDeal hahaha
I've come to find that having a 4x4 truck will make you think that you can go places where you probably shouldn't be going. On the other hand, having a 4x2 and having that information in the back of your mind tends to keep you out of trouble. Maintenance, fuel economy, upfront purchasing cost, and practicality are all concerns when purchasing a new truck. You can lift a 4x2 an inch or two, and it can look as good as a 4x4.
If you buy a 4x4 vehicle, the 4x4 system should be something you should be using from time to time. Else, like any vehicle component that you do not use, it will break down.
Exactly! My Pajero has a 4x4 option which I don't use since I got the vehicle and after few years the solenoid starts to show signs of issues 🥲
Navara ve at 4x2 or ford next gen 4x2 at xlt?
If offroading/overlanding is your priority get the 4x4
This is why I so luv your vidz 👍 My generation would say - "wag mong esmolin". 😄 Bisaya eh 😄 As always, mega informative 🤓 Merry Christmas & A Joyous New Year to AutoDeal 🎇🎆🎉🎊🧨🪅
Is really hard to decide a good pick up truck and honestly I’m still confused on getting a 4x4 or a 4x2 because my wife is from the province of Bacolod and is a kind of mountain trip to get to her family’s house so with that being said I need something a truck that has power from the engine to climb that tough road
if you can afford, go with 4x4. it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it but you don't have it.
you can always switch it to 2H when you don't need 4wd.
@@zamhendrick5476 I appreciate your message and I have decided to go with the 4x4 pick up truck because I know I will need the extra power in the Philippines with their different terrains out there
4×2 is good in uphill?
I prefer the cleaner look of the VE without the red accents and roof rails.
What does Sir Caco drive?
I'm also not a Tagalog, fully countryside bumpkin here, I think the word is "minamaliit"?
We got a VL4x4 a week ago. We just love it over the ranger when I drove both. Sure the ranger looks good and the handling and gear shifting improved than our 18’ everest titanium, but the we got the navara VL4x4 for long term reliability, safety techs, the ride comfort even on the passenger side and a whole lot more. Over all Navara won me over the ranger
Sir, manual or automatic?
for comfortable ride is my issue i have Hilux g variant for hauling purpose only but comfortable ride is down to me. I've been looking for Raptor or navarra because of coil springs much more better than leaf spring.
Malaki difference ng ranger and vl sa ride comfort?
Hi Sir, would like to confirm if you already have actual experience whereas your Navara fully stopped when you encountered a stopped vehicle or pedestrian in front of you?
I haven’t seen any test yet locally on the functionality of Nissan Navara’s intelligent mobility autonomous emergency braking,
Thank you Sir 😊
@@kennethbacdayan4484 automatic sir :)
The review is good but please do not digress and talk about other brands. It is a Navarra review after all.
Dream car for pick up is PRO4X, DMAX or Hilux
Looks & comfort city driving =Navarra
Love the Navara
@autodeal, planning to buy pickup... Which one can you recommend?
Ano purpose mo po? Magkano budget mo? Do you want a reliable engine or mag all out sa features?

at or manual - 4x4?
Navara VL 4x4 is enough if you want 4x4 that has all the techs of the top of the line Pro 4X.
My friend who owns a 4x2 said that he regretted getting a 4x2 when he was once got stuck on the mud.
So if you have money then go for 4x4. You might need it on the right time and not worry to be stuck. And the features are also helpful.
I've already decided to have a 4x4 as my 2nd car.
I really liked to know where storm and flooding is good for 4x4 unless your climbing of debris
its better to have it and not need it than need it and dont have it. i got the pro 4x and yet have used it off road. well unless you count bad road full of pot holes
"The butt is sliding around like a stick of butter on a hot pan" . . . . had a good laugh on that one

@@bobdylan9117 you just spill the butter. lol
Tons of 4x4? Its simply because no brand is offering 4x2 variant offering all techs that comes with 4x4 variant!
I'm just a little worried bout the resale price tho.
Please make a review on 4x4 manual vs 4x4 automatic 😁
I think the only difference between the manual 4x4 VL and AT is the transmission. Same specs and features.
It's just sad that Nissan gave less love and decided to not bring the 360 camera in this lower-end model.
Yun nga sabi ko kasi para mapilitan ka bumili ng 4x4 kahit di mo kailangan. Dati un ve completo un features para daw mabenta un 4x4 smh
trueee!! dapat mga camera should be 360.
When you live in mindanao, you need 4x4 or awd. My friend's 4x2 strada got stuck in the parking area of the restaurant we were at. My 4 door awd sedan didn't have a hard time. 😂
You can get away with light off-roading with a 4x2 but in all seriousness, if your pickup do get stuck in a difficult situation, you'd really wish you had a 4x4. Because in off-roading, terrain, you never really know if you would get yourself in sticky situations especially if you are not an experience off-road driver. Very differrent experience with on road driver might I add.
Having said all that, I own a 4x2 Navara Calibre-X since i'm 99% on the road. I was tempted to shell out another 200k for a 4x4 but since i hardly ever go off-road, it made no sense in financial point of view.
All in all good review, as always, love your reviews about cars. Cheers mate.
I'll have this one, One day... insha'Allah
I'd rather get a van than a non-4x4 truck. I just can't see the practicality of a truck. We own both. But the van is more practical although the ride is much more comfortable in the truck. Maybe it's because of the leaf and coil spring rear suspension combination.
4x4 is more reliable in province
we do have 4x2 and 4x4 and
4x4 will always beat it on the farm and on the unforgiving terrain
Im a fan of base variant vehicles. Navara EL is enough for me
apir!
I have a 2018 4x2 model which I bought for 1.2 M , City driven 40,000 km mileage , coldest aircon , no issues at all except that I wish for a electric power steering since i am 65 yrs old
Sir caco you forgot to tell the price for nissan navara 😅😊
Mitsubishi galant 7th gen at the back ❤️❤️
Buy 4x4 if you tow a boat. High speed rainy day (4H). Steep slippery uphills. In Baguio innova more than capable without 4x2. My Mrs drives all wheel drive while I drive 4WD
Caco's phrase:"Huwag mong e-smallin^
Jack's phrase: ^ huwag mong mamaliitin"
Probably ito yung gusto nilang sabihin about 4 x 2 pick-up.
Leaning towards dmax and strada
sana lang bumalik ang pick-up na single cab. yung hindi mo na ipapasadya
City folks don't need 4x4. When are they going to use it? What's the point lugging around the extra weight if you never use it? I know a city girl who drives a Jimni. She has never used the 4x4. Not once. She doesn't even want to go off roading. I'm like, "what's the point? She likes how the 4x4 "looks."
And then there's me - driving up trails in the mountains in a FWD Volkswagen Caddy TDI or a 4x2 v6 ute. Both are fun, different challenges. I can get to places 4x4 go.
is the nissan navara 4x2 MT reliable ? I plan to upgrade my 2010MT fortuner to a pick up and hesitant to get a hilux due to its ride comfort any feed backs is appreciated.
Super po ang navara ☺️☺️ car driving experience at a pick up convenience
how does it feel to drive a MT pick up truck? nakakapagod po ba sya compared sa mga smaller vehicles na MT Din?
Better advise is "huwag ka mag aksaya ng pera sa 4x4 kung most of your drive is on the paved road". Lool
Ve 4x4 is also a good deal
Nissan should offer a 4x4 el automatic as an option

I suppose if you need a 4x4 more then 20% of the time it would be worth it in term confidence when needed vs Higher Fuel Cost and long term Maintenance.
Anything less then that and you are paying for Dead weight , and higher cost.
A good deal for a lifestyle truck
