Chris is a monster on the guitar! One of my favorite musicians talking about my favorite songwriter. Otis your channel is a singer-songwriter treasure trove. Thank you so much for this
"I don't know what to say, I never even pray, I just feel the pulse of universal dancers. . ." His lyrics are just deep man. He's also very sweet in person.
I'm a huge fan...when I discovered Chris from Bonnie Raitt's covers of his songs I went out and bought a handful of his CDs...the one I got no love today is one that haunts me...song about a vegetable vendor. He's truly a storyteller
Thank you both for this conversation. The history of this time needs to be recorded to stand beside the already recorded music. Memories if not written or recorded will vanish with the body that held them in memory. ☘
I'm 70 but I've been a fan of Chris since I was a teenager and he used to play the Main Point outside Philly. I learned to fingerpick guitar by watching and listening to Chris's playing and he was always the most influential on my guitar playing. A brilliant song writer, performer and singer, so good to see him interviewed.
chris smither is awesome im sure nayone seeing or caring baout my furry little comments knows how i feel about saint john prine thanks brother otis does fill the heart up indeed. as a priner just knowing that prine and oh boy families are awake of my existence is.....helps me get thru...as does ur channel gracias - SJOCR
At the end of the interview.. you could see the memories… going through his mind… as he remembers John. I got to see John at the Radio City Music Hall in 2018 … before the world got turned upside down. I got to see his brother Billy playing his songs… last summer… as close as I could get to saying goodbye… 🌎🕊️
I am a big fan. I saw Chris him at the National Folk Festival In Canberra Australia some dozen or so years back, great show. Big fan of John Prime too look forward to extend talk with Chris Smither. Cheers.
Fortunate to have seen Chris twice live. Once at the Kerrville Folk Festival shared the night with Timbuk 3 and the Limeliters and a few others. Impressive. Then a solo show at the Mucky Duck in Houston. That was a gift. The dude is a serious player.
Loved his remarks about the Ryman ….its so true. When I went beer was spilling down on me from the balcony. My companion said, “You’ve just been baptized at the Ryman”. I took off my wet jacket and never missed a beat.
Time to catch me another Chris Smithers show... a style and sound of his own. Didn't know he was an opener for John Prine... that would have been just right.

I am not a big fan of virtuosity on guitar. Because it displaces the heart. There are single digit exceptions. My #1 example of where virtuosity ACTUALLY exists with heart, is the blessed Chris Smither. "God Damn it's hard to find an honest man."
You should get to know Chris Smither!

Otis…Are Ya familiar with STEPHEN BRUTON? Please ask Chris or Your other pals about Stephen.Thank You.
This guy can literally play circles around most of the artists he looks up to. I love his humility and respect. 🎵
Chris Smither is wonderful. Lots of great songs, but his Leave the Light On might be the best song ever written about getting old.
I love that song. I had to learn it.
Love Chris Smither. Thanks.
I’m so grateful for having found Chris’s music. Like John’s music it truly speaks to me. Much love.
Thanks again Otis for introducing me to people I didn't know I knew! Music discovery, and rediscovery is such a wonderful thing!

"Okra enough to choke ya"...
Upset my" peace of mind".
Top notch
Another great interview. Thanks.
I saw Smither a half-dozen times when I lived in the Twin Cities. Never disappointed.
God I love Chris Smithers. Great to see him looking well here.

Thanks Otis and Chris. Another great story.

Smither is INCREDIBLE!!! Don't know how I found him, but he is SPECIAL.
Steve Goodman and John Prine; two giants of the Chicago singer songwriter world. Loved seeing them at the Earl and Somebody Else’s Troubles.
The Impossible Dream...I was 11 years old and it still sends chills down my spine whenever I think about that season.
Four of my favorites!
Hooray Chris Smither! Terrific guitar player, songwriter.
Saw Chris live 2x in the 90's. Fantastic!
Chris is as marvelous a human being as he is a songwriter and musician ! 🙏❣️. Deep respect

I love Chris! I ran into him at an airport and chatted with him. He signed one of his posters when I saw him play in Portland, Oregon.

Chris is the BEST!!! Monster player ❤ He & Bonnie did Desolation Row. Knocks me out every time I hear it.
Love Chris Smither. Love John Prine. What Chris said about John’s audience being his audience rings so true to me..,,
I discovered Chris performing at a folk festival in Australia 20 years ago. He’s a special talent.

What a wonderful interview.
Thanks for living your truth it gives me hope

My dad was a big fan of both these guys… Bonnie Raitt too. Cool to hear they were all friends. Chris is such a lovely guy!
Got my first John Prine album in 74. The song writing was so damn good I wore that record out.
Time to catch me another Chris Smithers show... a style and sound of his own. Didn't know he was an opener for John Prine... that would have been just right.
I’ll leave the light on. 🙂
Don't wait up! I'll be home soon.
My favorite artist. I can’t believe it!
Great video!
Love Love Love Chris Smither !!!
Wow. Thank you
Another great example of how great your interviews are….
Chris is a phenomenal player
Smither is amazing..reminds a bit of Guy Clark. Doesn't get the attention he deserves.
You surprised me with this one Otis... Was not expecting to see you talking with Chris about JP. Wow...
love love love love only love will do

Check out Chris’ latest release - another excellent one!
Chris Smither's rendition of Desporation Row is a masterpiece. Bonnie Raitt is on it.
❤
Smithers does the best cover of Visions of Johanna
Earl of Old Town in Chicago

I would have to rate Chris Smither as a superior song writer to John Prine. Both great but Chris is on another level.
If I were young again, I'd pay attention
To that little known dimension, a taste of endless time
It's just like water it runs right through our fingers
What do u remember..very little ❤🎉😂 ain't that the way of the best stuff lol
👍✌❤😎
👍👌🇨🇦
Still hope to see play ......
