Oh, my goodness! Thanks Rick, for posting this interview and Thank You Mr. Shelton for all the wonderful music you’ve shared with us for all these many, many years! Legendary!! Play On!!!
I have a 1952 Tele. The newer ones - even late 50s, don't compare. There's one reason why they are SO valuable. They are not so thin and spiky, although they are still like a Tele. They have wooden warmth, kind of a sweetness - as you can hear here. They tend to be lighter (not much paint or lacquer at all) and easier to play than many later ones.
The value of that '52 instantly increased. Louis is such a great player, gentleman, and interviewee. I always enjoy seeing and seeing him. Brother - "Leo almost got it right with the Tele." implying that the Strat was/is perfection. I'm surprised you said that. Louis, ever the gentleman, politely corrected that mis-step.
Boy, what a treat to watch this program. I remember trying to learn Last train to clarksvill, and never could. I love that lick. Thankyou both of you for doing this wonderful program. Marc Trainor

Growing up in the 60s and early 70s, I heard Louie's brilliant playing, but of course did not know he was the guy. What a great guitarist.
i could sit and listen to this man for hours. He's a living encyclopedia of guitar playing experience and lessons learnt. Really nice approachable bloke too.
Excellent and most enjoyable. What a wonderful player he is.
And such a lovely chap too :)

I could sit and listen to Louie speak and play forever . So blessed to have seen him on stage in New Mexico many years ago .
Just wow... What a humble fella. Quite a life story and wow.. what a great player.... God Bless him!

Wonderful to hear how he opens up and plays fabulous stuff as the interview goes on. Fabulous player many thanks.
That interview was such a pleasure to watch. Playing from the 'heart and head' is what true music is about. What a great musician and humble guy Louie is and thank you Rick for allowing him to take the time to recollect his memories for us. It is so important that people like Louie are documented.

Most excellent. Thank you. The best musicians are humble. Magical ears and fingers.
Louie Shelton leaves all others standing choking in his dust- but he's just a down-to-earth guy.

A living legend, no doubt. SEVENTY years in music, most at the highest level. And still going.
I'm so envious of this dude, earning a real good living all of that time from doing something that he clearly loves.
But also really pleased for him. Seems like he deserved it. A beautiful human.
...he covers Elton John's "Tiny Dancer". Love it.
Pure MONSTER from 12 years old to now. One of the best!

Thank you Mr Hollis for making this video of Mr Shelton. I just happened to accidently find this while doing a search. I appreciate and thank you Mr Shelton for the wonderful licks you have provided artists over the years in the studio. Please keep providing these videos sir. Thank you!

Love this guys Louie Shelton. I especially enjoy playing his iconic parts on Last Train to Clarksville! He is the "music behind the music".
Incredible sound, magnificent geetar player!🔟⭐️👍❤️
Boy, what a treat to watch this program. I remember trying to learn Last train to clarksvill, and never could. I love that lick. Thankyou both of you for doing this wonderful program. Marc Trainor
Thank you for watching.
For me the simplicity of the Tele is the beauty of it! It’s the last guitar I bought and it’s the one I play the most, and I have 7 electrics.
You could listen to him all day, such a great interview.👍🏻
What a lovely chap. Very generous with his time. Thanks
This is really a treat. His way of conveying what he plays and why is so honest. A real natural player.

Thank you Brian. Glad you enjoyed it. I'll be having a live chat with Louie here on my channel soon. Subscribe and notification bell to stay in the loop :)
Even in this relaxed environment,
Mr. Shelton's time is perfect.
His ability to play perfectly in
tune , pure tones are a very
Rare Jem indeed.

The intro to "Valleri" by the Monkees is brilliant. I went looking for the player and found Mr. Shelton. He's amazing.
I love Teles... & I love listening to Louie play them!
' Specially this one! It just rings, this one, perfectly tuned & intonated . 35:07 for a swoit taste ...😮

FENDER should find him an original or at the very least a Anniversary reissue
Last count Keith has 12 52's. I bet if Keith knew Louie wanted a 52 Keith would give him one of his. Lord knows he deserves it
@@steveb9325 you know that's great & all, I'm all for capitalism & free market & more power to Keith he's certainly earned it & able to spend his money how he pleases but there is a little something off putting about people collecting or hoarding a majority of vintage instruments & artifically driving up supply & demand even more than it should be.
@@MrMd5555 we're talking Keith Richards brother. A rock guitarist icon that does this for a living. I've got nothing to do with it. I'm thankful for the guitars I have. They're paint brushes for me. I'm a musician.
@@MrMd5555 get your point and agree, been going on for decades. I'll never get my dream vintage Martin even if I won the lotto I'd never spend quarter million on a guitar. It's all subjective bro
Perhaps they
Should've built
A Sig. model for him. They built a john5 model for him. yikes 😞
Humble genius
Liked this session you let the legend do the talking very nice i subscribed
Thank you, Douglas. Did you catch the more recent live stream interview I did with Louie as part of my Chit Chats With Guit Cats series on my channel?
Amazing. Lucky man to witness this legend in person. Loved the session with the old Fender amp. Piece of history there......
Wow, I've been listening to Louie all my life and never knew his name.Wow

Met the Hellecasters and after a brief rehearsal Jerry Donahue gave me a two hour louie shelton lesson fingerpicking i was in heaven thank you Louie and Jerry still have trouble with last train to clarksville

Always loved the telecaster... quite a unique sound... cheers from Mexico
Yo tengo un 1952 fender telecaster it was made from a man that was mwxican and American unbelievable works she soo responsive
Loved that little bit there he did on Chet Atkins. Always loved his stuff too! Thanks for this video! Great music to get your mind off all the craziness right now!
Never knew his name until I saw a RUclips short yesterday, but I’m sure a fan now. Turns out I’ve been listening to him my whole life.
His most memorable playing for me was on the Monkey's tune "Valerie." Aside from Jimmy Bryant I had never heard anybody play that fast, clean, and melodic all at once back then.
Absolute respect to you Sir, you are a talented musician who has learned your craft to perfection. A great guitarist and a truly humble gentleman.
I could listen to Louie all day long
Its a joy when he comes over to do some work and he picks up a guitar to have a noodle.

Thanks for making and sharing this video! It was a privilege to hear some of Mr Shelton's stories and playing.
Louie Sheltin and his wife used to come over and visit my Father and Mother as a kid. I wish I had have jagged some lessons from him then!
Yep you should be kicking yourself lol
@Luey Sixty-six My God Man, I probably would be sick everyday if I had missed an opportunity like that. Just meeting Louie would have been a thrill.
@@paulas1man to be fair, this was when I was between 5 and 10 years old, years before I ever picked up a guitar. And Louie didn't visit regular- regularly...like every week or anything. There were just a handful of visits that I recall... probably 5 or so. Under 10.
So the only lessons he could have possibly given me would have been a few basic, beginner ones. Like..this is an A chord..sort of thing.
@@lueysixty-six7300 I'm just kidding with you man. Louie is just such a nice guy, it would have been a thrill to have just been in the same room with him. My dad played in a band when he was young. I was 5 years old when my dad would be jamming on some Jimmy Reed and other old blues artists. It was great as I remember it with dad playing his 1964 sunburst stratocaster with a maple neck and an old tube amp. It was a good time, but dad was no Louis Shelton. I am sure you cherish that memory. Good talking with you
@@lueysixty-six7300 Mm - you can go quite along way on an A chord though! Angus Young certainly did - and he was far from the only one.
Great video!!!

I set a Reminder! I may have to watch the replay, but i just love stories about how it "used to be" in music. It's always been corporate, but it seems like they had more room to work out and get over thier own ideas and personalities within that context. I will definately watch.

What a dignified gentleman Louie is ! Guitarist, showman, producer, he must have played with half of the planet's professional musicians during his sessions and still remains modest and gentle...
Is that a Vox Pathfinder in the background ?
I have 2 Vox Pathfinders and an AC10 in here so without watching the video again, I’m gonna say yes. Louie is indeed a dignified gentleman.
It's a wonderful show everything was perfect. Thank you !
wow what a great guy Louie is..He loves Guitar so much and you can hear it with every note

I was waiting for you to tell him that was his Tele and you were giving it to him.
I can't believe I've never heard of this guy on guitar channels!!
I've been missing out for decades!
What a Great musician, Guitarist and human being!
My first Louie moment was the fierce Spanish flavored soloing on the Monkees' "Valleri". Not a huge fan of the song itself, but that guitar work was jaw-dropping. Nobody was doing that for late 60s pop-rock.
