  • Speaking of his life journey from ‘Music to the fulfilment of Vedanta’ Swami Atmatrptananda said that music was a wonderful way to evoke and demonstrate bhakti, understand Ishvara and helped to own up the ultimate knowledge of Vedanta.
Swami Atmatrptananda is a traditional teacher of Vedanta. He grew up in Mumbai in a family of modest means, but had good samskaras/orientation towards being prayerful with exposure to devotional music and the Vedas. After obtaining a university degree in a non-related field and after having a fair share of knocks and blows in his life, he met Pujya Swami Dayanandaji. He heard a number of his talks in the suburbs of Mumbai and made friends with his students and got an fair understanding of the life of a student before deciding to study Vedanta full time. He studied 3 years in Sandeepany ashram, Powai, Mumbai and 4 years in the Rishikesh ashram. He travelled with Pujya Swamiji studying with him, seeing several cities before Pujya Swamiji suggested taking up teaching in Kolkata. Now after more than 3 decades of teaching, he has no agenda in life and no regrets either. He is of the firm belief that music played a huge role.
