Hey Ken! Thanks so much for reacting to the video! Glad you liked it! If you (or your audience) want to hear something a bit more live, we're doing a "Fang Sings the Classics" livestream on 1/31 at 1pm Central on our channel, and this duet will be a part of it! Also - you're correct, there was a bit of "overacting" re: tongue & mouth positions on the video ;)
"I think that Metal and Opera are more closely linked than people might think". The moment you get that is the moment you get metal, my friend. He should check out the rest of Metal Opera Battles, he'd have a great time ❤
A comment from LotT on the main video after someone asked how legit it was: "The audio was mixed in post, but only reverb & compression were added. That's her actual performance!"
I dont think it was lippsynced, i think this was actually legit recorded as they said it was. You can hear the pop of the bottle and skype lowering brittney's mic. LoT is known to be very critical of autotune etc so I dont expect them to overuse post production.
In an interview in Charismatic Voice chanel she said she singed Alto in a choir before goin into the metal band. She begun singing in choir as a five year old.. She traveled the world singing Alto in the juno awarded choir The Uvic Chamber Singers... She studied at the UVic School Of Music. , Acording to Wikipedia She has a range from C#3 (which is the C# an octave below middle C) to D6 (which is the D two octaves above middle C). About genre.. Like both Brittney and Floor studied music for several years. So offcourse they have sung different types of music. In Floor Jansens case she has studied opera and also plays flute piano and guitar. She is a soprano with a range of more than three octaves (D3 to F6. Among of her musical educations is Conservatorium Tilburg. So Many of the best metal singers has an awsome background in studying music
Some people don't know this, but BOTH of them are actually classically trained singers. Miss Britney said if she hadn't discovered Metal that she would have gone into Opera singing. Miss Britney has a three octave range and she makes GOOD use of it.
What I find funny about this is that Brittney and the male singer have both been drinking, lol. Hearing this, Ken should react to Brittney doing karaoke after a full set in Scotland, when she sang Queen of the Reich. She was drinking in that video as well. It was because of that karaoke video that Arjen Lucassen got her to sing Fate of Man on Star-One (2022), as well as Unleash the Archers releasing a cover of Queen of the Reich.
Ok so I was watching this and they were just chatting on twitch and decided to sing a song together and were already drinking so ya however it happend turned out awesome. BTW Brittany has said in interviews she sang on stage growing up like in plays.....she just a badass nerd that we all love!!
she was actually in a world famous chorus at the university of Victoria school of music that travels the world. the girl has actual real musical arts background.
Opera/classical music and metal are really close if you take a close look at the music theory and techniques used. A lot of the times the only difference is distortion and electricity.
Definitely. If any of the classical composers has access to electric instruments a lot of their work would likely be heavy af. There are a few pieces that are incredibly heavy for the era. In conclusion, musicians in any era like making a big sound.
For a great example of metal opera you should check out Ayreon, a music project masterminded by Arjen Lucassen. Each album is a concept album and he gets lots of talented singers to play characters in the stories. A good starting point would be "The Day That The World Breaks Down" or one of their live performances.
NO they did NOT lipsync this. It's real and they did it AGAIN together on his live 2 hour stream. I know it's hard to believe but they both are absolutely this good. You can go looking for another Brindisi. Search all you want. You won't find one that matches Verdi's original intent better.
another multi talented powerhouse everyone misses is Anna Murphy of Cellar Darling...you've never heard a hurdy gurdy played like she does...on top of sing like an angel, play flute, piano, etc,etc..."Hedonia" live is goose bump worthy.
My biggest question is why not the band unleash the archers just added some extra song on a album or something with her opera in it. It would be awsome.
I don't watch many reaction videos. Thanks for not chopping this one with stops every few seconds and commenting. The eyebrows up at 3:15 when she started ............LOL
The audio in post will no doubt refer to getting the original audio from each source so that there are no breakups in the sound (Brittney;s feed broke a few times)
Brittney slayes it all. Great singer. So many metal singers slay it all actually. And I think you hit the nail on the head on how both genres require that much of singers. You could find many more (than 4) examples and check them all out. What about checking out this grande dame of prog/metal? A source of inspiration for many who followed in her footsteps like Floor, Sharon, Amy Lee, Simone ... Anneke: Doing prog metal with The Gentle Storm (project with Arjen 'Ayreon' Anthony Lucassen) - 'The Storm' live at Masters of Rock 2015: ruclips.net/video/cobEh7BSIu8/видео.html Doing classical in a collaboration with Árstíðir - 'Pavane' by Fauré, televised live performance 2016: ruclips.net/video/6cgUk7EI7K4/видео.html Once you really checked out Anneke and her originals with The Gathering, Devin Townsend, Danny Cavanagh, Ayreon, her numerous acoustic sessions and orchestral performances, and so many more ... well, let us know. :^) Enjoy!
I need to ask you to check out a band called Diablo Swing Orchestra, a song called Balrog Boogie. But, also, their fairly new song Jigsaw Hustle. Man, you're gonna be dazzled
Love your reactions and commentary! Great vid! Silly question but you would be the one to ask, I can't roll my r's with my tongue. Can I learn to or is it that some people just can't? ( or am I a genetic freak?) LOL Haven't seen anybody answer this question. Keep up the great work!
Subscribed! And if you like this you should really check out Powerwolf. I recommend starting with Alive or Undead as that showcases his voice best in my opinion :)
It's not surprising that the most selected second favorite music genre by those who put metal as their first is classical. And classical feeds into Opera.
You need to listen to Powerwolf from Germany! The singer Attila Dorn (stage name) is a trained classical singer, much like Tarja and uses it to the bands fullest advantage in power metal :D
I will give you two singers to look up and react to both did multiple performances on a Chinese music show in 2018 called The Singer: Jessie J did many covers of songs I think you will enjoy (Purple Rain, Killing me Softly etc) KZ Tandingam a Phillipino singer who also crushed the songs she performed (Rolling in the Deep, Say Something). Enjoy :)
they should call more random metal chicks to the show like Dianne van Giersbergen (ex XANDRIA, Ex Libris) or Laura Macri (death metal band MaYaN) instead of professionals like Brittney :p
Spiritbox Rule of Nines would be awesome however if you have an aversion to Spiritbox, Jinjer Teacher Teacher, the official album video would be great.
I've been following you for a bit but have yet to put in a request since I pay attention to the instruments more than the vocals when listening to music..... BUT, I noticed you haven't reacted to Teddy Swims yet, and it's blasphemous lol. The typical reaction video for him is his cover of "I Can't Make You Love Me" and I can say with 100% certainty you'd love it since you really can't go wrong with Teddy. That said, I would REALLY love to see a reaction to one of his live versions since it's more stripped down. Personally I think his cover of Valerie by Amy Winehouse is the most raw since it's just him, the guitarist, the mic, and one take. Sounds like very little post was done, if any. Again though, you can't really go wrong with any of Teddy's work. Here is the Valerie link: ruclips.net/video/xiYujzLlzmc/видео.html

Will watch, I love the stuff your creativity during these weird times. Maybe ask Ken for some Opera sings Metal? ;)
Can't believe you guys are from Wisconsin and I've never heard of you, what's going on!
@@ryanjs20 Indeed! We're from Madison, WI :)
Love that you interact with other artists, rock on!
Brittney Slayes is both a name and an accurate sentence 😉
Other singers sing, Britney Slayes! 🔥👌
Facts in evidence.
Fuk yeah it is! 🤘😁
Well said 🤘
Brittney Hayes, this is her name
"I think that Metal and Opera are more closely linked than people might think". The moment you get that is the moment you get metal, my friend.
He should check out the rest of Metal Opera Battles, he'd have a great time ❤
Ken-"Who knew!?"
UTA Fans-"WE KNEW!"
Hahaha. Great to see some light shed on this wonderful bit of awesomeness.
I believe Brittany said if she wasn't singing metal, then she wanted to be an opera singer.
Stop spelling her name incorrectly.
A comment from LotT on the main video after someone asked how legit it was: "The audio was mixed in post, but only reverb & compression were added. That's her actual performance!"
And His .... the man is Talented.. but gotta love Britt :)
Yup! That's correct. I was absolutely blown away too! :-D
@@LordsoftheTrident You two need to do another collaboration .. Friggin Epic!!!

@@LordsoftheTrident yup... many times ... there is always room for more ;).. when that song came out i got your album Frostburn onto my phone!
Ken is so proud of her and it shows
Brittney learned Musical Theatre before finding her metal voice. explains a lot of her sound.
Definitely react to Ty's band Lords of the Trident. He is a legit great singer and is definitely underrated in the metal arena.
Aw, thanks so much! :)
@@LordsoftheTrident Deserved! 👌
Thank you for being the only reaction channel to FINALLY get to this one. Such a fan of yours!

Britney's voice is something you could write a book about.
Check out their duet on Lords of the Trident album "Shadows From The Past"...the song Burn it Down(With Fire)feat Brittney Slayes
I'm so glad you made a reaction video to this specific performance.

5am and decided to check your channel before bed. So glad I did. I love your reactions and Brittany Slayes 🤘
You should check out Alter Bridge: "Words Darker Than Their Wings" Live At The Royal Albert Hall, absolutely amazing performance from Myles Kennedy
You should react to Ty's band Lords of The Trident. Death Dealer is fire
Thanks!
The opera battles with John Yelland of Judicator are great as well. A lot of people with major talents need to be more famous than they are.
Some people don't know this, but BOTH of them are actually classically trained singers. Miss Britney said if she hadn't discovered Metal that she would have gone into Opera singing.
Miss Britney has a three octave range and she makes GOOD use of it.
Took too long, but I (finally) subscribed. Been watching your reactions for two days and love them. Keep it up! ❤️
Yay! Thank you!
Love you Brittany and love you too Fang!
I am so happy you took my request from the last time you did Unleash the Archers!
OK, you took someone else’s request, but I made the request too! LOL.
What I find funny about this is that Brittney and the male singer have both been drinking, lol.

Wow. She really has amazing vocal control. And her range from alto up through soprano is wonderful. What a talented woman
Hey man! I just subscribed and the lads in Lords of the Trident are some dear friends of mine. Cheers!!!

badass nerd - winner of phrase of the day.

Brittney is a terrific singer and very entertaining.
Opera/classical music and metal are really close if you take a close look at the music theory and techniques used. A lot of the times the only difference is distortion and electricity.
Which might explain why symphonic metal and rock/metal opera work so well!
Definitely. If any of the classical composers has access to electric instruments a lot of their work would likely be heavy af. There are a few pieces that are incredibly heavy for the era. In conclusion, musicians in any era like making a big sound.

Wagner and Beethoven are Metal AF.

Awesome reaction Coach !!! So Glad you checked it out !!! Cheers !!
4:54 "It's not fair she doesn't get a drink". She had a glass of white wine at the beginning haha.
Ken, Ken, Ken...you should know by now that the words "train wreck" and "Brittney" do not belong in the same sentence! ;)

I agree metal and opera are very close in many ways, also if it was anyone else than Brittany I would be like whaat lol
Brittany did choir in university and came from a musical theatre background too
Good job 🤘
When will you react to Rammstein/Till Lindemann again?
My guess that they each recorded themselves to the backing track and then mixed into one video later.
