*Almost everything about this video (and Angel):*
-This song was originally made by Silva Hound in their channel and they were able to get Angel’s actual voice actor to make the song. Later they made tons of remixes one with the sad lines in the after credits scene. After, Viv liked the song so much that she decided to make it canon and make an animated music video.
-This song takes place after the pilot. (This is debated by a lot of people and I wont explain why but yes it takes place after and that is canon.)
-Correct, Angel’s real name is Anthony and he died of an overdose of PCP (aka angel dust) in 1947 in his late 30s. He was born into an Italian mafia in new york with his father, Henroin, his brother, Arackniss, and his twin sister Molly. His dad didn’t aprove of him being gay so he was kicked out of his house, going into sex work very young. It is theorized he, as well as everyone in his family, is a spider demon to simbolize his family’s *web of crimes* .
-Viv has said that Cherri does all of the destroying and taking territories (not only because that’s who she is) but also because she is trying to become an overlord so she can get Angel off of Valentino’s clutches.
-Valentino is Angel’s pimp, and most hated character in the fandom. We know that he is an overlord and was a human who died. He makes part of a trio of overlords called the V.V.V together with Vox, a TV demon that has rivalry with Alastor, and Velvet one who we don’t know much about or exactly what she does. (It is theorized that every overlord represents a sort of media, Val porn, Vox TV, Alastor radio etc)
-There is a comic posted on the official hazbin hotel web site that is a prequel to the pilot showing how Angel got to the hotel and more about his abuse. I would really recommend reading it although it isin’t currently available in the site since with the release date of the show being realesed the web site is only a place where you can “check in” to the hazbin hotel. But there are tons of comic dubs here on youtube if you want to check it out and Im sure you can find the comic easily.
-In the music video there is a lot of subtle things in angel’s pole dancing choreography that are saying a kind of “fuck you” to Val, theres a great video made by one of the storyboarders that pole dances that shows the choreography as well as those little details.
-It is also theorized that the cigarettes that both angel and Val smoke with the red smoke are some sort of tranquilizer or controler that val uses to make his employees more compliant. You can see in the middle of Angel’s dance when he inhales the smoke he all of a sudden goes from saying fuck you to val to dancing “happily”.
-Angel has a strange fascination with fish and while he can’t take care of them he really loves them, thats why the club that he is in with cherry has so many aquariums and fish.
-While Angel and cherri are getting out of the destroyed club we can se some neon signs inside it, one of them says “it was all a dream” this makes a lot of people think that everything the happens after Cherri jumps off the bridge and there is a white screen, is a dream. They never destroyed the strip club, after all Angel would probably be punished for it. Also note how in that sequence Angel is literally wearing rose tinted glasses.
-Angel’s pig is called Fat nuggets and you can buy him as a plush on the official Hazbin merch store, I was able to pre order it which gave me a bonus pin of Angel and Nuggies hugging which is absolutely adorable.

The web of crime theory doesn't resonate with me. I'd bet the whole family has as harmful views towards sex as Angel Dust has. Much more accurate symbolism with Angel then. Male spiders IRL don't survive sex often. Most are killed by their partners. Angel Dust being someone with a self destructive relationship with sex makes so much more sense to his aesthetic and the feel of hell. Your character flaws shape your afterlife.
For me this song is a prequel that explains the line in the pilot "I owed my girl-buddy a solid."
@@IndigoJulze oh that’s really cool! Honestly the web of crimes thing didn’t satisfy me either, like its nice but I feel like there was the need of something more for angel being a spider demon and I really love that theory!
Also the prequel thing… Basically when the addict MV was being advertised it was being called “the friday show” in the instagrams there were posts of Angel giving tickets of the show to Husk and Nifty and then he appeared in the same costume as the MV saying he’s getting ready for the friday show. Basically there’s no way this happens before the pilot since only in the pilot husk and niffty become staff. Plus I believe in the “it was all a dream” theory since it makes the whole video even more tragic. That after angel is assaulted by Val he passes out on his room and goes to a safe place, creating and idealized world where he’s able to get revenge on Val with his best friend with no consequences. The theory is also helped by the fact that the sequence only happens after a long white screen that comes out of nowhere with crackling static, something that if Im not mistaken isn’t even in the original track. Also the fact that there isn’t a crowd in the club which gives me classic dream vibe of things missing.
I don't know why but the end where Angel is singing by himself is my favourite part. It's kind of sad but also pretty sounding

Creator Vivienne Medrano especially loves Angel Dust amongst her characters -- and so far he's the most sympathetic and fleshed out. Can't wait to see more of him
Well it's because angel dust was the first character to get created first and over the year he had a big character design development (and also typical character development)
I think he was originally going to be the protagonist. In fact, this was originally meant to be in the same continuity as Zoophobia, her webcomic. Changes on top of changes, including personalities and designs, Angel and Vaggie were even going to be a couple, and Charlie didn't even exist. ZP has its own devil and antichrist character. My theory is that Charlie was created, possibly with some character traits that were originally written for Vaggie, and only after this was retooled into a separate new IP. I recommend that you look for some early designs, especially Vaggie's, they're great.

Also alastor is her favorite. But that reactioner doesn't like alastor because he is asshole, even known angel dust is actually asshole too. But this is the big reason we love angel dust. The way he is such a charismatic asshole is more part of the reason why we love him than the part he is tragic character. Alastor will end up tragic too and he is not the main villain of the story. You should watch official comics one about angel dust, one about alastor. They are interesting. Alastor will be the mysterious triple agent and forth main character of the show.

Elijah, I really appreciate you catching yourself on the use of "broken". You caught yourself really quick and explained. It's really helpful to address stigma and how to reduce the harms, and to help people heal - recovery isn't a straight line.
As a fleet mechanic, I hate the term broken. Some people will write something off for being too broken. You just have to be willing to invest in making it better. Will it take time? God yes. Or drivers will call something broken that isn't broken because it doesn't fall into the narrow definition of how they want something to operate to best suit themselves with no consideration for who or what it is actually made to be. I don't see my fleet equipment as machines. They're just like people with hurts and issues that need care and consideration.

Fun Fact: Angel Dust in life was an Italian Mafia Boss (this is why he’s a spider demon with his “Web of connections”) who died of overdose from the titular drug (which was incredible on its own, since Angel dust wasn’t that manageable to get at the time)

I noticed this detail when watching you react but I really love how Cherri is showing her soft side when she was comforting Angel at the beginning and I love that Cherri was blowing up stuff relating to Valentino cause he was abusing her best friend
Fun fact about angel is that he has two siblings that look exactly like him just a different color to their fur, and the pig was actually a gift from one of his siblings. Also his siblings are a brother and a sister. Also the demon that was with Angel in the car his name is Valentino but people call him Val for obvious reasons and he is also teamed up with another demon you see in the beginning of Hazbin Hotel Pilot his name is Vox and he should be pretty easy to find since he literally has a TV for a face

I love this song not only because we saw what’s really going on behind Angel’s whole persona, but we got to see how close Angel and Cherri are as well. She was there with him when he was going through withdrawals and she also danced alongside him even though that’s obviously not her thing. Hopefully we get to see more of the two of them in the actual show, whenever that comes

It's VERY important to note that Angel Dust is actually voiced here by his regular VA, Michael Kovach. So not only is he doing the voice for his speaking roles in the show, he's ALSO doing this full-on singing. And the way he does Angel's voice (IIRC) is basically using one hand to manually restrict his own vocal chords.
So yeah... Dude's not just singing in the voice, he's singing, in the voice, while basically halfway-strangling himself!
*Fun Fact:* In early development, Cherri was planned to be Angel's daughter who was in Heaven

To be honest when I first started watching Hazbin Hotel I thought Cherri was Angel's sister (hey I thought it explained why they're so protective of each other) but then I read the official Hazbin Hotel wiki and Angel already has a sister and I'm like "uh I'm such an idiot."
I just wanted to add to your broken comment and say that, in Japanese culture, there is a form of art called Kintsugi where they fix broken bowls (and other things) with gold. It is a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections.❤❤❤
Awesome news about Hazbin Hotel just dropped a couple days ago! A teaser trailer was released and the series was confirmed to be releasing Summer of 2023. The platform/streaming service is still unknown but at least we got an official release date!

One design choice you'll probably appreciate is that Angel Dust is spider-like and Valentino is moth-like. Normally it's the spider that traps the moth, but here it's the other way around.
Anthony was his human name, his name in Hell is Angel Dust, so you can call him Angie, Angel, Angel Dust, whatever. :)

The main thing this music video did for me was make me interested in Cherri's backstory. It does a great job fleshing out Angel, but just because she's been seen less and will probably not be on the show as much, I'm more interested in her. She seems equally interesting, her friendship with Angel is suprisingly wholesome, and if she's getting a backstory in this there's a chance she could become more important in the show.

This music video is really something else, it definitely helps us see Angel's character in a different light, and shows the side to sexual assault that alot of people don't pay mind to. Angel fell into drug usage, and now sees himself as being only useful in the sex industry, even though he's being used and now feels trapped in his found place in this business. He knows he's in a bad spot, but his reputation and pride keeps him from seeking out help.
His character is so deep already, and i'm looking forward to seeing how he grows and is expanded on in the series 💙

hearing your take on addiction as someone who relates a lot to angel dust honestly made me just tear up. I wish more people had that same understanding of what the experience is like even if they haven’t been through it themselves

That animatic is done by one of the story board artists, it's not 'official', still a fan animatic, but the art is really great
My mouth literally dropped at seeing bout Silva Hound and Chi Chi in the credits (Chi Chi was the singing voice of Cherri). Both of these very talented people have done work in the MLP fandom. Chi Chi in particular shocked me because normally her tone is much softer so hearing her sing like this shows she has amazing range! I hope Vivzie keeps both of these 2 around now that A24 has picked up the Hazbin Hotel Franchise (don't know if that includes Hellva Boss).

One thing that becomes obvious after a bit is that Charlie hasn't considered any of the experiences that led her patrons to the behaviors they have. She thinks if she keeps them from the temptations then they will be redeemed, but of course it's way more complicated.
Charlie is going to have to have her own arc.
Your reaction and breakdown of this video and song almost made me cry. You put everything so beautifully and put the things I couldn’t quite put my finger on into words. The small acts of rebellion Angel had (him making rude gestures to Val in the club being my favorite) , cherry’s own struggles, the overall message about addiction and abuse. I can’t express how good it is to see someone finally digging deeper and expressing it so eloquently for others to see.

2. This song has no business going this hard. Amazing work by Silva Hound.
3. This is dark shit. Angel went from being an amazing character to being one of the best ever. Such a tragic backstory and the way his life has been in hell since... damn. Show is not messing around. It's heavy stuff, but it's shown in a really amazing way. Love the flashes between Angel on the catwalk and in bed crying. It hits really hard when you realize what's going on and changes everything.
I love how Cherri is always there for him. Just being there for him no matter what. One of the amazing things this show and Helluva Boss do is show really good things being done by demons in hell set against what we know of our world and people. It's a really great way to get you thinking about things.
Addict provided some backstory of Angel Dust indeed. So much was shared over how he came to be, including Cherri. Wicked song!

Not sure if anyone told you, but sure you will like a video titled "ADDICT (Hazbin Hotel) | Learn Angel's Dance from the Board Artist!" where the person who did the board drawings, actually had taken pole dancing lessons and used that to make some parts of the animation, and even at the dresses up and shows the whole thing in live-action. It's by R2ninjaturtle.

While I understand not wanting to use the term "broken," I think there's a difference between calling someone broken and saying they're completely destroyed and beyond repair. To fix a problem the person has to recognize that there is a problem, and even if their damage is through no fault of their own, there definitely is something wrong about the situation if they themselves don't like it. Broken items may have to be fixed by someone else, but the great thing about people is that broken people have the chance to fix themselves, and that can be empowering on its own.

There are these two videos by Paranoid DJ - Dirty Healings and A Day in the After Life, which are two official comic chapters that were dubbed and sounded by him into video, to near perfection. Dirty Healings goes more into Angel’s life in Hell, and how he got to the hotel, while A Day in the After Life is a standard day in the life of Alastair. 100% recommend

Fun fact, Raphielle is an official story board artist for both Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss as well, so this isn't just any other animatic -- even if it isn't exactly canon.
I love this song. Angel Dust is great, but I really like Cherri Bomb. Her and Vaggie are the two characters whose backstory I really want to learn more about. Hazbin Hotel is gonna be so great, and very deep, and I love a show that has three things: great songs, the right amount of humor, and angst that is well done. As a Dark Crystal fan, well done angst, and waiting for more content with deity-like patience is my jam.
I know this probably goes without saying but I feel compelled to warn you and all the viewers this is just the tip of the iceberg of Angel’s addiction
And it’s more than likely we will see a less glamorized version of the affects of his drug problem both on himself and everyone around him (including his sister, Molly)

I loved this video because I love the show, and the creator, and I am deeply personally familiar with this kind of trauma; and this humor/inappropriate persona coping mechanism.
When the show aired, the creator got a lot of heat about Angel: and the show itself took a lot of heat and a lot of people hate it and called it negative or harmful representation and gay stereotypes. It's absolutely not true and I recognized him from the pilot as clearly a character who was using a persona to hide real trauma. And I knew that that would unfold as we saw more content, but to me it was very obvious from the get-go. You actually do see Valentino in the pilot and if you pause on the frame where he is looking at his phone, he is texting Angel demanding money.
It was obvious for me as somebody who is a critical thinker that this character was somebody who was suffering. They have since put out backstory comics for a couple of the characters, and they just released the official trailer and announcement that the series will be airing in summer of 2023. And I'm very excited, but this video 100% validated all of my theories about angel dust from The moment I Saw him. I thought it was strange to see how many people were surprised that the video was deep or told the story of something other than just someone who was inappropriate for goofs and gaps? And I personally think he is a funny character but also I know the depth beneath it. And to me it was very meaningful and seeing so many people flood the creator of the show with hate mail and even death threats about representing a character that was gay who was not all sunshine and rainbows or an "apology character" was just so hurtful. And I love that you will be getting into the sister series Helluva Boss.

Many things between the pilot and the episode 1 of season 1 actually changed and I think the same thing will happen for Hazbin, but the pilot is short and sweet and it's kind of an introduction / teaser for the series and the series is mind-blowing and just grows more and more with every episode and has been fantastic. The finale of season 1 was split into two episodes, the second episode actually still has not aired due to legal issues with the episode and may never air they've had to accommodate for that with changing some of season 2 according to the animation team and some of the voice actors, but you can get the gist of what happens and you can still go into season 2 without the second part of the season 1 episode which there's a lot of speculation about. But I can't get into it without spoilers. But I'm so excited to see you react to that show as well and also to be able to see someone react to Addict the way that I did - understanding that it was legitimate and it was storytelling and that not every gay character has to be perfect.
As always it was a delight seeing another upload from you, I also can't wait for the full show to start airing in summer of 2023, but in the meantime going through Helluva Boss and the remainder of Harley Quinn with you will be so much fun.

If you haven’t seen it yet I strongly recommend watching the Valentino animatic by Raphielle II (who if I'm not mistaken is one of Viv's storyboard artists)
Also Viv made short prequel comics of Angel Dust and Alastor (both of which have amazing comic dubs on RUclips by PARANOiD DJ) the Angel Dust one shows how he came to be at the hotel.

A possible defense of the term "Broken", while it can carry the permanent connotations you mentioned, some things can be broken, but not worthless yet. Kintsugi is the practice of repairing a broken item by gluing it back together and then painting the cracks with gold or silver powder, making it more beautiful than it was before, and telling the story of the piece as well. In this emotional context, Kintsugi would probably be Therapy, which would help the person work through the trauma and come out stronger than they were before. The past damage is still there, it's not hidden or a secret, it becomes a feature, something that makes that piece unique.

The World of Hazbin and Helluva Boss have such amazing lore and deserves videos exploring them more; like Angel and Cherry were people but when they died they arrived in hell as the form that is shown, each sinner is like this some more powerful than others maybe perhaps related to how evil they were in life; and then the Imps are basically the lowest on the hierarchy, they are born in hell and they are even beneath the sinners

Angel Dust and Cherri Bomb are my favorite characters. This song was deep in my opinion. Imagine if Vivziepop and her crew made another music video for the rest of the other 'Hazbin Hotel' characters like Alastor, Charlie, Vaggie, Husk, Niffty and which would tell us more about the backstory of the characters.
