@@marcglenn The manga has a constant collaborative process. After Toyotaro expands on the initial draft, he emails his work back to Toriyama. Then Toriyama actually corrects the dialogue and artwork, then emails it back to Toyotaro. The video doesn't highlight this much, but several interviews and other sources confirm Toriyama still has a significant role in the manga's story. He just doesn't want to do most of the work anymore.

An ex of mine was Japanese, and she once told me that Akira Toriyama is very rich and like royalty in Japan.
I know that he got super famous for Dragonball and his unique art style. A lot of people might not realise though that he has done artwork for(every?) Dragon Quest game, Chrono Trigger, other things besides Dragonball. The guy's a legend and yeah hell if it werent for covid, we'd be seeing Goku everyday at the Olympics as he was going to be the official mascot of this years Olympics in Japan.

Edit: I looked it up and he did the chara designs for dq 11 so I think I was incorrect.

He was already a millionaire before Dragon Ball and a very popular comedy manga artist. People also very much loved his style of anime and he has done and still does designs for many franchises and games.

The manga and anime are basically separated universes at this point with similar parallels. Some franchises do that.
Especially in the tournament of power, there are so many differences. Can't say that I like that, I hope moving forward the anime will be a direct adaptation of the manga and not deviate from that story.

I remember the Yu Gi Oh 5D's going that route with many characters being very divergent from their presentation in the anime. The nature of the final antagonist Z-one, for instance, is changed from being Yusei from the future to a mysterious figure that adopted Yusei's persona in an attempt to save the world from spiraling out of control.

But then i guess , the anime was liked much more and become more popular that all other series that came after where anime at first with manga versions added . So the animes become the main canon , and i guess the original creator of the original manga was not envolved at all for the sequels sadly .

I mean it makes things interesting, it’s like Comic Cartoons, take ideas from the Comics but overall create their own stories, except in a way it’s the other way around.

@Martin Ramirez Why is it terrible? I mean, the anime isn't exactly perfect either. They reintroduced kaioken and then immediately didn't know what to do with it. That's why it wasn't used in the goku black arc except for one moment. They botched up ultra instinct by having goku get angry in the form and still use it. They reintroduced vegito, just to have him fight at a similar level to someone who was struggling against a full power ssb goku. If anything, the manga is good. It is far more consistent than the anime at least.
@livebreathmma you sound like a DBS anime fanboy. You do realise the ToP arc of the manga was purposely rushed so that the manga can get ahead of the anime on time for the Broly movie, right?
I hope Toriyama is always involved, even if monotoring in approval/disapproval, etc. That meanns, whatever the storyline, his characters are being managed and presented according to the nature that Toriyama created. I don't know if Toyotoro has favorites or biases with any of the characters, but if so, I don't trust that they wouldn't bleed into his writing to improperly alter and present characters in conflict to Toriyama's creation. That worries me... I just hope Toriyama is always involved, saying yes and no behind the scenes, at least.

The fact that he wrote the script from the Brolly movie means he still has some good ideas for the DB world down the road, though, Toriyama retired from DB once, so, I understand the DB team's decision to have the next Toriyama in Toyotaro.
I hope not, characters should evolve, others should take the spotlight every now and then, tired of watching goku always somehow saving the day in the end, it gets repetitive and that's just bad writing.

This proves that Toyotaro has not hsd "ultimate" control over the manga (especially pre Moro).

The story from the hunt from the Dragonballs arc to the end of the boo arc is a masterpiece🐐
I feel the boo arc wasn’t the grand of an ending. Like it didn’t know how to end until Goku came back into the picture
Ultra Instinct Goku it ended perfectly. It perfectly wrapped up the cell arc with mr satan, the Namek arc with Namek & porunga, the saiyan arc with Goku & Vegeta’s conflict, elements from the og db, and it wrapped up Goku’s morality arc with Uub coming
"Perfect" is a fool's word.
The Boo arc ended rather drab. Goku and Uub simply laugh, then they flew off. That's it.
The last panels of the DBZ manga never show a montage of Goku's past adventures, you know a poignant reminiscing.
In the cover though, Tori did a nice picture of Bulma meeting Goku with Adult Goku facing.
Fred V yea I was always disappointed about the buu arcs end but heyyyyyy at least we now know that that’s officially the end of dragon ball since super is well before the end of dbz. Honestly that’s insane when you think about it. I wonder when super ends would they make a remake of the last episode of the buu arc showing that they are once and for all done with the series

It's genuinely very long to explain but to try summarise.
Merus' death caused Goku to realise life is worth preserving even if it means putting your life on the line for it. Goku before merus only saved his home (earth) and family. He didn't care for the rest of the galaxy. So when Goku Promises Merus to protect the galaxy, this also meant helping those who took a wrong path and giving those a second chance. Not the same as freeza as Goku wanted to let freeza Go. Moro was never going to leave jail again, but to atlease live is what Goku wanted vy taking on Merus' will, he had to reform villains like Merus too. He was not looking to make a rival out of moro. For the first time Goku saved a strong opponent for the simple fact of wanting them to live. Moro accepted this offer which means Goku could fulfil merus' will. However Goku isn't stupid. He knows Moro will just heal in prison for 10million years and break out. He already learnt from freeza that healing someone brings out the true intentions. So he gave the senzu bean to moro as a test. Will moro at full power still obey or will he obey As predicted. Moro failed the test and did the same mistake freeza did. Goku knew moro was lying and beat his ass again. Moro was weaker than Goku no matter what and the senzu bean didn't change that fact. So it was a good test to see if Moro was able to change with Evidence. Ofc Goku knew moro wouldn't change but having that evidence, justifies his execution. Rather than killing someone without giving them a fair trial.

It’s crazy how the DBS manga went from promotional material for the anime to its own creative vision lead by Toyotaro. The Morro arc is Toyotaro’s legacy and if he finishes strong could be the future of the franchise going forward. 👀😳
Respect for Toyotaro man. He literally made a sequel manga for DBGT like 20 years ago and now he’s doing a canon manga.
I actually really like toyotaro's artwork in the manga. There is a certain charm that is part toriyama but also original.
I mean akira cant do it forever. It will be interesting to see where the future of dragon ball goes from here. I think we were lucky to get super at all, passing the torch could mean more content. Whether it is better or not will be debated for decades to come.

I kinda wish you further highlighted the influence Toriyama has over the manga. That not only does Toyotaro expand upon the story outline, but he gives his work to Toriyama to correct art and dialogue, then email it back to Toyotaro.
For real. That fact makes the manga canon to me. Toyotaro isn't implementing anime ideas but the anime is implementing Toyotaros ideas. That says enough.
@@unboxreacts7435 Well I would argue that the Super manga is closer to Toriyama's vision. Toriyama can have a more intimate relationship with the manga by emailing his future successor back and forth. He obviously wasn't contacting Toei studios every week supervising the episodes. Characters (in the manga) like Goku and Trunks seem to act more like how they did in Z than the Super anime. There's even little details like King Kai's bee Gregory not even existing.
@livebreathmma First of all, none of Geekdom's sources contradict what I said. In fact, he even admitted to what I said to an extent. My criticism is that he didn't highlight the point enough. Secondly, a couple of details being kept the same in the anime doesn't change the fact that the manga has it's own list. Some of which I mentioned. And if you'd like, I can provide you sources to interviews proving the collaboration I mentioned. It's a fact that Toriyama constantly corrects and approves his work.
The reason why the ToP sucked was simply because it was heavily rushed so the manga would be ahead again.
What you also fail to realize is that Toei is not a single person. It's simply impossible for him to have the same intimate relationship with the entire Toei staff as he would emailing one man back and forth. Toriyama has even outright called Toyotaro his successor.
I (and others) think the manga has ups and downs, but has being doing okay lately. And unlike you, I don't need to throw out petty insults and like my own comments to make a point. So "I'm" not the one blinded by bias.

@ The manga is far from being "Dragon Ball Heroes", and Toriyama was far from being in his prime even when providing plot point for the arcs in Super. You can see it from how much of a disinjointed mess the Goku Black arc was.
Honestly, the Moro arc is probably the best original arc of Super so far because it's written by a single person, and resembles the most something out of DBZ.
People need to forget about “canon” and “power scaling” in general, face it, they just don’t work out. Take everything with a grain of salt

Whatever you deny it or not power scaling is a thing... however the only thing I do not like about the power scaling was Goku black zenkai boost in the manga... there should be no way Goku black as a mere Super Saiyan 1 would be beating down Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta.. and to add insult to the injuries the SS Blue Vegeta ate a senzu bean and he was still Losing To SS1 Goku Black.. then the situation got worse when Goku Black obtained Super Saiyan Rose and the Fight Got more one Sided.

You don’t make an overwhelmingly strong fusion like Vegito, but then introduce fucking UI Goku and Jiren, and make everybody think “this is fine”
JasonOne all three are overwhelmingly powerful, can damn near shut out their opponents immediately, and only two have time limits.
One is just a fusion, another is just the character itself, and the other come from a technique/transformation, both of which are probably on the same level if not stronger than the fusion
It's so fascinating how, when you like what is happening, "Toriyama is working closely" but when you don't, "Toyotaro is making weird choices".
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Toyotaro turning Omen into "just another" transformation, but nearly everything else he's done has been pretty solid, if not demonstrably superior to the anime
- Power Scaling makes more sense
(Kefla is on par with Ultimate Gohan and not SSB Goku X10)
- World consistency is largely intact
(Goku Black getting zenkais is explained better compared to him just "being stronger")
- Beerus' strength is made much more accurate to his portrayal
(Toys with MSSB Vegeta before utterly destroying him compared to getting so worked up fighting base form Goku that he forgets he's in disguise)
Good now that Toyotaro is ahead of the anime, the anime could follow what Toyotaro did👍

I don't want to be this guy but I think they could start again with super and improving points of the manga and anime with more consistência, not only in animantion.

deus zoio I agree. Seeing a super reboot that takes elements from the anime and the manga would be a lot better overall since imo they both feel like missing puzzle pieces to the same puzzle. They could also make sure they’re organized with the animation staff and the writers.

The Truth: Vegeta gets embarrassingly screwed. Therefor Toriyama is responsible.
Man Vegeta fans are the worst. Vegeta is not the MC. And he still gets lots of shine despite that. Beating Frieza, Frost, Black, and Toppo. He is never meant to beat all the main antagonists.

Multiple inputs does not equal no cannon. They make their own cannon for their own media. Cannon is simply the “measuring stick” and they each have their own for those mediums.

You misspelled , Mui would be too much for Moro .It was literally stated to be unbeatable by an angel. At the end it would be like Goku wouldn't kill Moro cause he ain't a killer and Vegeta might step up to finish him off.
@@divijkatyal1649 - That's one scenario that could happen, Vegeta getting the win but it's usually Goku or someone else for the win. I remember calling out that Meerus would be fighting Moro as well while he was on Beerus's planet. There was a clear reason why they showed him in this arc.

I feel like the fact that Toriyama is allowing other creators to help in the creative process, while also scrutinizing their work will alow for the best possible product. Toyotarou can express himself, bringing fresh and new ideas into the franchise while also getting the thumbs up from the original creator?? It's a dream come true for a franchise and a creator.

Gotta say Toyotaro has really come into his own in the Moto arc, bringing back that true feeling of dread that OG DBZ had that made it so good
He still sucks in terms of writing. He started with I guess originality, but it slowly got back to a generic formula. And I am not even taking into account the contradictory statement and feats that basically came from the previous arc.

So to sum it all up Toriyama gives the plot/script, Toyotaro does his best to accurately portray that in the Art of the mangas. Thats fine with me. Because the fact that toyotaro can be seen in Akira’s eyes as a worthy successor is awesome ! Much love geekdom no hate my way

Just my opinion. I dont like the idea of the celestial saving the z warriors now. I feel like that's the whole story of super. Whis rewind vs frieza, zeno saving the multiverse, now meerus saving the entire team with whis help. I'm just not a fan.

Imo, i see the manga as the complete canon, with DBS Broly and Resurrection ‘F’ being part of it, but it really doesn’t matter to me what the true canon is, I love this series with all of my heart and soul.

Nope all is canon as said. Dragon ball is no longer a one-man creation and it is now a franchise. Franchise means owned by multiple personality. Kinda like Kamen Rider, Ultraman, Gundam, etc where the original author already died and the bigger entity (for example Bandai) owned the creative rights of these franchises. All kamen riders, Ultramans, Gundam series are canon in their own rights (even if the original writer of kamen rider, super sentai, etc is no longer involved). Thats how franchise works. If i bought a McDonald franchise, no one will say to me that my McDonalds is not real (canon) part of the McDonalds license.

Honestly this would make things better. (And before I get the SUPER HATER!! REEEE GT TARD!!) I mean as in the aspect of keeping lure what it was and not making unnecessary changes that potentially ruin characters, the story, or tension. Like the Saiyan retcon. The fact that there was more humane saiyan other than Goku who needed the hit to the head.
What I liked about the how it was was the fact that that hit changed Goku for the better and the fact that thousands(?) of years back there was a small group of saiyan who went against the norm, but just like SSG, disappeared and Goku continued the new norm for saiyan. With his Children and through Vegeta. This is also one of the reasons why I dislike the new Broly..
@@DBFanPol Everything after DBZ was already confirmed to Have Toriyama involved but defining their version of "involved" is just Him sitting in his desk saying yes and no. He didnt Create anything per-say he just Approved it, which is still not The Original Creator doing the Original work, And when we say Canon people mean It has been Authentically created By the creator, I get its time for the old man to retire but that is when the Franchise Ended for some of us. when goku launched the spirit bomb at kid buy there was a scene where he faught kid buu in this pocket space for a second and I beleive that when the spirit bomb went off into space and blew up, that was visual representation on Toriyama throwing the series in the air for anyone to catch, and In a way that would make all spin offs kinda cannon but Toriyamas og story forever remains
In short (and as you’ve said before lol): the true canon is what Toriyama himself created without any outside company involvement or influence. Aka, The fucking original manga 🤣
The original Dragon Ball manga had plenty of influence from Toriyama's editors. It doesn't really matter whether or not there was corporate influence in parts of the story in regards to whether something is canon or not, what matters is whether Toriyama wrote the story. Even if there was corporate influence throughout Dragon Ball Super, Toriyama still wrote/guided the story with his notes, even if they were kind of a bare-bones outline. Therefore, all 3 versions of Dragon Ball Super (the anime, the movies, and the manga) are all each separate canon continuities, as they were all written/supervised by Toriyama to some extent. It doesn't have to be 100% Toriyama's work to be canon, Dragon Ball never really was to begin with, Toriyama just has to be at the helm.
Toriyama directly reviews each chapter of the manga, and tells Toyotaro what he’s supposed to change. He also said back in 2015 that if the anime followed the manga they’d be “kept on the right track.” Toyotaro is also the prodigé of Toriyama. He’s the Dave filoni of dragon ball. That’s why I consider the manga to be the canonical source. It’s toyotaro’s now. Toriyama is slowly letting go of the reigns. Great video though as always, geekdom!
Absolutely. The manga has always been the main canon. It still is. No reason it shouldn't be. Toyotaro is Toriyama's official successor. His work is the canon.
@@doctornico1759 i mean, if you want to disregard that period of time where the anime predated the manga, sure. The fact of the matter is that neither one is "more" cannon than the other. There's simply an anime cannon and a manga cannon, much like the movies have their own self contained cannon. Toei and Toyotaro both got the same plot outline from Toriyama, they both come up with their own ideas to add on, and they both get little input from Toriyama. Him skimming the chapters before rubber stamping them doesn't really make it "more" cannon than the anime in my eyes as prominence is typically what makes something cannon or not in most other situations where different creators are involved in the same IP.

Dragon ball super was never supposed to have one main canon that should be regarded as gospel compared to the other source. This is why the events between the anime and manga are so different. A lot of people are saying that Toyotaro should not be the one to continue the story of dragon ball, so that disproves the theory that if they follow him the anime will be better. And in defense off GT. Goku was never not in control of his power even as a super saiyan 4, whilst Super Goku had too adapt too a new type off ki which allowed him too perform the universe shake feat while clashing at full power against a suppressed (retconned HEAVILY suppressed) Bills. Mind you GT Goku in base performed the same shake feat, but on a bigger scale, just by casually letting loose in base. Something he's never done before.

Dragon ball in the manga wasnt even called dragon ball z it was just called dragon ball. And original writing source material doesnt matter as long as its official media for the franchise.

I think Toyotaro getting the reigns isn’t a bad thing because he does have some interesting ideas. The flaw obviously being that he’s not quite there as a consistent writer but if it works in a way where he writes the manga, and then they have a different group writing the anime while using his ideas I think it could be a good thing.

I like videos like these where you go in depth of the behind the scenes of Dragon Ball.
I started reading the DBS manga and I do like the arch, there are some differences compared to the manga and some of them are better and makes some sense. However, unlike the original mangas from Toryama it was very similar to the anime, which watching one or the other it is not so different (Im am still at volume number 10, so if it changes, relax) but with DBS I realize that there are lots of cuts, like freeza saga and broly movie, do not show up, and it actually makes you watch the anime so you understand because it is mentioned on the manga. it is sad, because usually the manga is suppose to be a better version of the anime

I had forgotten that the Moro arc is Toyotaro's work and doesn't use the old 'bullet point' planning. To be fair he's done a cracking job, it's a shame the higher-ups are seemingly getting him to push things along at the risk at what was looking like a fantastic arc.
The moro arc is easily the best arc of Dragon Ball Super.
