Mini 4 looks fantastic, except for one thing, and that is limited to 120m! in most cases that will not be a problem, however if you want to fly up a large hill or mountain, you can't! maybe there will be a hack soon to remove that garbage limit 👍

Your review however was excellent.
As much as I want all the upgraded goodness of the Mini 4 pro, I have decided to keep my Mini 3 Pro. After being quoted a ridiculously low trade in amount for my Mini 3 pro and realising it is only 16 months old and I would loose 8 months of the 2 year warranty and Care Refresh cover. It seems pretty cool. Out of curiosity (if you have used a Mavic 2 Pro), how would the photo image quality of the two compare? I’d imagine the physical advantage of the bigger sensor on the Mavic 2 might be visible, but the 5 years in between them maybe make this difference quite marginal… Appreciate anyone with first hand experience.
Do you like the newer controller more than just using the standard NC controller with a smartphone or tablet? I think I might prefer getting the standard unit with more batteries for sub $900
I would much rather have a good tablet. You're not restricted to one set of hardware, can upgrade, have a big screen, ability for 3rd party apps. This gets you real functionality despite requiring bracket/cable etc. I can understand only thinking of using one's phone would be annoying and the 'cheap' route but it's also the adaptable android route, which can potentially be better than the RC2 or RC Pro Hopefully there is an N-2 or N-1 Pro or something available or in the works?
Hi Rob, great review, liked and subscribed! thanks so much! Question for you on precision Waypoints. I understand that the Mini4 Pro cannot active track at speed through a challenging forest scenario (fast mountain biking in rugged terrain) yet I am curious to know if by setting precise Waypoints, then flying at speed in Sport Mode on a MTB trail, could this potentially be a viable solution to avoid known obstacles from point A > point B ?
interested as well, although I doubt it - we will need to get the new Avata 2 with new O4 goggles, and they will make it backwards compatible with Mini 4 Pro

God dag! Hope you’re having a great vacation in our beautiful (yet crazy) country. I love Norway. My grandparents on both sides came from Bergen. Anyway, was it as difficult for you to register and fly here as a “non-citizen” as it was for me trying to fly in the EU? It was so frustrating jumping through the hoops required over there to register as a non-citizen pilot; and I fly the Mini 2.😬
Question ND filters for the mini 4 pro are they the same as the mini 3 pro? Also does the wide angle lens fit both ??? Also what what is the maximum sd card size the Dji mini 4 pro
Even if both me and you 'RobHK' are from Norway, i'm gonna write this in english so others can understand what i'm saying. The thing about weight is only valid towards what the drone is registered with. So if you put on a battery that makes the Mini 4 Pro weight like 300 gram, you don't have to worry, because it's all about what certification and weight the drone have when the drone was certified. When it comes to the height limit (only in EU now), you could always fly the Mini 4 Pro up to around 120 meters up a hill and find a spot to land the drone, and then take off with the drone again to have a new 'home point' set up there where you can go up an additional 120 meters. Not sure if this is actually working, but if it's working, then it's a workaround to the height limit.
Great review, does your LUTs pack work with Final Cut (non pro)? Also, in this video I’m seeing a lot of the updates the maverick was just enabled with, like home point (H) on controller screen, image of drone on ground when landing and my question is, are there more? Another question is, can the mini 4 pro also fly FPV with googles 2 and motion controller?
All the models share the same physical sensor. An OmniVision OV48C (and yes it is a stacked sensor, OmniVision only produces a single 48MP sensor and it has a stacked die design). At launch of the Air 3 all the reviewers were so excited about the new "stacked" sensor. DJI later confirmed though that the Air 3 and Mini 3 Pro share the same sensor. The Air 3 just benefits from better image processing algorithms, same as the new Mini 4 Pro.
The sensor is not stacked, its pixel enhanced like the Action 4. So each pixel has a bigger size allowing more light, information to come through👍 hope this helps Dean.
To my knowlegde it is the same sensor and therefore the Mini 3 Pro also has a stacked sensor. I've seen a RUclips Video where the creator asked the DJI support and got the official answer from them. I can't remeber the the name or the creator though. If you want to be safe, just ask DJI support. I guess they will confirm this.@@deanbarkley7997
I'm sticking with the Mini 3 Pro it's still an excellent drone, I'm not really bothered about the new features the Mini 4 Pro offers as i never use active tracking & at the height i usually fly within the 120m limit i might add there is nothing to hit, plus both the images & video quality while slightly better to a certain degree it not enough again for me to upgrade. I think next years Mini 5 Pro will focus more on both image & video quality may even see a slightly bigger sensor & a dual aperture lens F1.7/F2.8, if they can keep the weight under 250g that is.
Will mini 3 pro filters fit on the mini 4 pro? And will the mini 4 pro work with the mini 3 pro controller? Wondering if any accessories are transferable. For me the batteries don't count if they increase the weight beyond 249g unfortunately. The only feature that makes me consider upgrading is the Log PP. Probably not worth it, will wait for the next model probs. They need to sort out the detachable sticks.
@@bryanbuff Be aware the M3P batteries are slightly heavier, using these puts the weight of the M4P at 251g or 252g, I have tried this myself and weighed the drone
3:35 Surely for comparison purposes you should be using identical scenes? For example, you compared grass vs rocks for the video function. 5:00 comical that DJI limits us to 120m vertically yet you can fly apparently the thing up to 20km away. The only time I *might consider* flying higher than 120m is if I'm somewhere very remote like in mountain terrain, so in theory the altitude limit isn't personally an issue.
What did you mean about the altitude limit of 120 meters? The Mini 3 Pro had the same limit, but then you could go into the settings and override it. Are you saying it cannot be overridden in the Mini 4 Pro? This would be terrible for me! Upon a little more research, this MIGHT be a European thing. Does anyone know for sure? (I'm in the US.)
I like m4p extra features but not to be able to keep anything from m3p and buy it all from scratch and as m3p gonna drop in price the transition unfortunatly will not be cheap, maybe it worth waiting for the m5p...IDK.
@@HugoVarvoglis i have flown the plus battery every time, No one cares what I’m doing..people are far more annoyed with noisy drones than bringing a weighing scale

Who is going to check and bring a weighing scale? Cops, FAA, annoying Karen’s, annoying passers by?..as long as we fly in a safe manner and not doing crazy stupid stuff we are all good👍so weight doesn’t concern me when I’m flying a mini sub 250 gram drone., I’ve seen post of people complaining using mini 3 battery makes the mini 4 overweight of 2 grams🤦🏻♂️ good grief! Your presentation is exceptionally high standard and brilliantly informative. 10/10.... subscribed. The Mini 4 Pro although not in the same league as the Skydio which as you have probabley heard, has been discontinued and won't be produced, will be my plan B. Nice to meet you Rob.
@@RobHK Unless they significantly improved the camera's attachment face for the filters (which isn't that hard to use already), this makes no sense to change, they are the most expensive accessory besides batteries
@@RobHK would be interesting to confirm this from another user outside of EU. I think the restrictions are for all under 250 g drones, including the pro three mini
great overview ! 👍👍 Did you also test possibility of using the Goggles V2 from the Avata ? I wonder if this will also be possible as it is with 3Pro, but I expect no because of the new transmission system.
The 120 metre altitude... is that from your take off point? Because I'll be up mountains that are over 800 metres and flying between valleys and stuff too so its obviously gonna be over 1KM from sea level
can you compare mini 3 pro at iso 6400 vs 4 in night mode? that is the only I have been looking to figure out if I should just buy a used Mini 3 Pro or get the 4.
I think mini4 is almost perfect drone, apart from 120m height limit in Europe, I also wish they did more compact and pocketable remote controller with button lock feature. I wanted to buy mini4 (already sold all drones) but that 120m 'feature' is put me off, as Im flying the dron primary in the mountains. I wish DJI release mini4plus with plus battary and C1 marking.
you mentioned that waypoints and cruise won't be available on a firmeware upgrade to Mini 3Pro due to not having sensors but you can fly mastershots and POI shots without any senors already - not much difference in my opinion
Yes correct. Difference is quick/masters has a speed/range limit within a “controlled environment”, cruise control as no limit of speed nor direction, the same with waypoints. So if you fly to 1 spot then 5 others with waypoints you wont know the exact flight path, but you’ll know the points, so in between these points the drone might and i say might, have obstacles to avoid which requires side sensors. But i do agree with you 100%, this is just how it is and how I believe DJI runs the system
Does anyone actually have tried the waypoint system when coming back to the same location? How does it actually find the exact same waipoints again in 3d space? Do I have to take off from the same location and the waypoints are relative to that or does it store it with gps data and camera angle/tilt etc? And if the second thing is the case - is it actually precise enough to transition seamlessly between the shots? Anyone had experience with that? Thanks for the great video! Keep it up!
what about compatibility with dji integra and goggles 2? I used to fly fpv with the dji mini 3 pro in fpv mode with the controller as well using the bypass trick. Is this still possible with the mini 4 pro?
Sadly, I reckon with OS4, it’s a no go…but I still have my Avata…perhaps I can still use the integra googles, once it lifts off…I’ll know more tomorrow!
13:39 the active track 360 footage is way to janky for me. I would consider it useless, but maybe fun for memories of a holiday or something. Waypoints is actually the only feature i think is worth while. Even the 360 obstacle avoidance has been criticized. The mini 3 Pro has better forward facing obstacle avoidance, since the cameras are facing straight forward and not angled to the side. Not worth an upgrade for me. Maybe next year
I liked all your information. I wonder about those of us that don't have outstanding places to go to film, how can we get great footage in boring places?
Thank you for your unsponsored first look review! I havent seen yet if DJI offer any upgrade options for mini 3 pro users like myself. If it turns out that i have to sell my 3 pro then it would be good if the remainder of the care package could be transferred to a mini 4 pro (or alternatively to any new owner of my mini 3 pro). Perhaps covering upgrade options may make for a popular video on your channel? Thanks again for your videos.
I asked DJI support yesterday if I could transfer or get a rebate on my current care refresh if I bought another drone of them and they said no. 😔 Im going to wait until my current one expires next March now before changing, also by then we'll know what ridiculous new rules they're going to restrict us with and might not bother at all.
100% agree. I got a ridiculous low trade in quote and when you realise you lose all the remaining warranty and Care Refresh - it doesn’t make sense to waste money. As flying restrictions increase and new drones are released, it’s a good idea to wait.
Personally, I have a mini , and a mini 3 Pro, there are no reasons currently that make me want to change, way point would be nice, not a fan of active track, everyone uses that, and having a hard ceiling of 120m would be an issue, especially in mountains, I do not rely on obstacle avoidance, and don't film myself walking, running riding, so nothing in the new mini 4 Pro is screaming at me, except possibly way points, as this could be a bit of fun, and that is all.
Be aware the M3P batteries weigh more than the M4P batteries, using the M3P batteries in the M4P put it over the 250g weight, I tried it with mine and it weighed 252g with the M3P battery fitted
Jeez! 2 grams? Who would check for a 2 gram overweight? Cops, park rangers, FAA,CAA doesn’t carry a gram weighing scale with them..i have flown my mini 3 pro in Canada, Banff national park a month ago,i flew in lake minnewanka and a guy at the ticketing saw and ask me if my drone is 250 grams,i said yes its a mini 3 pro, showed him an extra battery that has a 250gram print he said ok and just warned me never to fly on top of people by the ferry dock..he didn’t check my drone as i was using the plus battery at that time😂
Hi and thanks for the review. I buying the the mini 4 pro, but I have a doubt that maybe you can explain me. As the drone as no side sensors would I get nice images flying front but with the camera in vertical position and in the computer turn the video 90° to “transform” it in a horizontal video? This way I would have notes sensors avoiding obstacles. This will be my first experience with a drone, so caution is good! Thanks!
That is so cool! I have never used a drone and I live in a wooded property. I want to do aerial views for forest clean-up. This gets you real functionality despite requiring bracket/cable etc. I can understand only thinking of using one's phone would be annoying and the 'cheap' route but it's also the adaptable android route, which can potentially be better than the RC2 or RC Pro
Hopefully there is an N-2 or N-1 Pro or something available or in the works?
Hi Rob, great review, liked and subscribed! thanks so much! Question for you on precision Waypoints. I understand that the Mini4 Pro cannot active track at speed through a challenging forest scenario (fast mountain biking in rugged terrain) yet I am curious to know if by setting precise Waypoints, then flying at speed in Sport Mode on a MTB trail, could this potentially be a viable solution to avoid known obstacles from point A > point B ?
Is the goggles 2 working with the mini 4 pro ?
interested as well, although I doubt it - we will need to get the new Avata 2 with new O4 goggles, and they will make it backwards compatible with Mini 4 Pro
@@Optimistas777 Its compatible with the 3 series so i think this is a never ending story ifit wont work. i just bought mine and i think i brin it back and wait for a while its still in the box unopened
@@Optimistas777 Hi I just spoke to DJI and they are NOT compatible!!!! And they dont think it will be in the near future. I think they want us to buy a next goggles 3 or something wich is a bad joke becuase gogglwes 2 is recently new and so is the mini pro 4
Also what what is the maximum sd card size the Dji mini 4 pro
nope.. different
@@VíctorIván-k2c which really blows since they're the most expensive accessory under batteries. No reason to change it for same size camera...
Not sure if this is actually working, but if it's working, then it's a workaround to the height limit.

hi, your LUTs will work on the iPad in the app?
Any app that supports .cube.
You can refer to the FAQ page for more info on the luts 🙂
Great review, does your LUTs pack work with Final Cut (non pro)?
Also, in this video I’m seeing a lot of the updates the maverick was just enabled with, like home point (H) on controller screen, image of drone on ground when landing and my question is, are there more?
Another question is, can the mini 4 pro also fly FPV with googles 2 and motion controller?
LUTs works with any software, any device and any profile👍 correct, these features are the same as on the mavic 3 series
Can LUTs be used with CapCut non pro?
New Sub! Great job and I can’t wait to see your footage from Hawaii 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks a lot!🙌🙌😃
Can you shoot quick shots in any other mode than just normal?
Only thing that would have tempted me away from the Mini 3 is the stacked sensor from the Air 3.
I predict that there are going to be a lot of second hand Mini 3Pros about to become available on ebay so some good bargains to be found.
All this makes me even more excited for the Air 3s once it launches. Only reason I have not upgraded is becuase of the 5.4k 10 bit video....
Rob, Is the sensor the same in the Mini 4 Pro the same as the 3 Pro or a stacked sensor as in the Air 3?
@@peos500 So even the Mini 3Pro had a stacked sensor?
To my knowlegde it is the same sensor and therefore the Mini 3 Pro also has a stacked sensor. I've seen a RUclips Video where the creator asked the DJI support and got the official answer from them. I can't remeber the the name or the creator though. If you want to be safe, just ask DJI support. I guess they will confirm this.@@deanbarkley7997
@@deanbarkley7997no it's not stacked on the mini 3 or 4.
Same for me. The extra gimmicks are not worth the steep upgrade price. Furthermore the RC controller is not even compatible…
Do nd filters from the mini 3 pro work on this one?
Nope🙁
@@RobHK so lame, i wonder why they change it if its the same size????
Will mini 3 pro filters fit on the mini 4 pro?
And will the mini 4 pro work with the mini 3 pro controller?
Wondering if any accessories are transferable.
For me the batteries don't count if they increase the weight beyond 249g unfortunately.
The only feature that makes me consider upgrading is the Log PP.
Probably not worth it, will wait for the next model probs.
They need to sort out the detachable sticks.
Unfortunately the Mini 3 ND filters will not fit. They have new ones for the 4 Pro. Batteries and props are the same.
@@bryanbuff Be aware the M3P batteries are slightly heavier, using these puts the weight of the M4P at 251g or 252g, I have tried this myself and weighed the drone
@@beardymatt8314 just read that. Interesting. Thanks for the clarification!
Rob, just subscribed. Where did you shoot this? Beautiful!
Its locked to 120 max, can’t adjust higher
Is that 120M the cap in USA too or only Europe?
Last plane and i will check👍😊
I like m4p extra features but not to be able to keep anything from m3p and buy it all from scratch and as m3p gonna drop in price the transition unfortunatly will not be cheap, maybe it worth waiting for the m5p...IDK.
You can keep the extra battery and propellers😂
@@camilo8cherylonly the propellers as the battery make it overweight 😁

Cops, FAA, annoying Karen’s, annoying passers by?..as long as we fly in a safe manner and not doing crazy stupid stuff we are all good👍so weight doesn’t concern me when I’m flying a mini sub 250 gram drone., I’ve seen post of people complaining using mini 3 battery makes the mini 4 overweight of 2 grams🤦🏻♂️ good grief! Your presentation is exceptionally high standard and brilliantly informative. 10/10.... subscribed. I have tried hard to import into New Zealand a Skydio for its beacon style tracking for my motorcycle adventure channel. The Mini 4 Pro although not in the same league as the Skydio which as you have probabley heard, has been discontinued and won't be produced, will be my plan B. Nice to meet you Rob.
Thanks a lot🙌😊 Appreciate that!
What's the reality of battery times?
Great video! Are the ND Filters from the mini 3 pro are compatible with the mini 4 pro?
Unfortunately not, only mini 3 batteries and other accessories like prop guards etc are compatible. Tho the batteries brings it just above 250 grams
Appriciate you! :)

Mini 4 i would say 👍
Thank you mate 😃🤝
Is the 120m height restriction only in Europe? Or out of the box it literally won’t let you fly higher/adjust the max altitude?
Adjustment wont go higher than 120m
@@RobHK would be interesting to confirm this from another user outside of EU. I think the restrictions are for all under 250 g drones, including the pro three mini
Thanks
great overview ! 👍👍
Did you also test possibility of using the Goggles V2 from the Avata ? I wonder if this will also be possible as it is with 3Pro, but I expect no because of the new transmission system.
Haven’t tested yet, but it is mostly what you say. So new goggles might be required
Love that it’s not a sponsored video, they always happen to never mention anything negative lol
Just asked Tech support about the 120m restriction, but it doesn’t apply in the USA. It’s 4000m here.
Cool👍 ill have my own real test of this in some hours

I have watched several Mini 4 Pro reviews. This is the first mention of height limitation.
Like i said, honest review 😎
The 120 metre altitude... is that from your take off point? Because I'll be up mountains that are over 800 metres and flying between valleys and stuff too so its obviously gonna be over 1KM from sea level

can you compare mini 3 pro at iso 6400 vs 4 in night mode? that is the only I have been looking to figure out if I should just buy a used Mini 3 Pro or get the 4.
I will include it in my night mode review👍
@RobHK many thanks, I am a low light fiend.... a7siii owner....
Hey Rob, can you let us know if the antennas on the RC2 snap together when stored?
They do
I think mini4 is almost perfect drone, apart from 120m height limit in Europe, I also wish they did more compact and pocketable remote controller with button lock feature. I wanted to buy mini4 (already sold all drones) but that 120m 'feature' is put me off, as Im flying the dron primary in the mountains. I wish DJI release mini4plus with plus battary and C1 marking.
its 120m max from your actual altitude position, so its not 120m copying terrain (in mountains for example).
@danielstormy3660 yes, in the mountains its nice to have ability to climb up along the mountains and still be in legal requirements
@@danielstormy3660 Not sure about that, need to check regulations...
Keep 3pro, use it for projects where you need heights abv 120m.
For all other projects use the 4pro
Has the new firmware for Mini 3 Pro not got the same restrictions in EU ?
you mentioned that waypoints and cruise won't be available on a firmeware upgrade to Mini 3Pro due to not having sensors but you can fly mastershots and POI shots without any senors already - not much difference in my opinion
Great review! Thank you!
Thanks man🙌😃
Does anyone actually have tried the waypoint system when coming back to the same location?
@@thelongarmmarine let us know!
Storyline, creative drone shots and use multiple angles and up the pace of the video👍 add that punch with some nice music
Im going to wait until my current one expires next March now before changing, also by then we'll know what ridiculous new rules they're going to restrict us with and might not bother at all.
100% agree. I got a ridiculous low trade in quote and when you realise you lose all the remaining warranty and Care Refresh - it doesn’t make sense to waste money. As flying restrictions increase and new drones are released, it’s a good idea to wait.

120 meter hight limit . it smash the paradiesbird.
Glad you pointed this out was about to as well
Does the drone notice the weight?
You will get a warning message, but it works perfectly fine. All shots were taken with a mini 3 pro battery in this video
@@RobHK Ah, in that case it'll probably not let me fly here
