Unfortunately I don’t have that bottle. I know the one you are talking about though…. 8yr for $250 is a tall ask. Willet doesn’t have the best distribution to VA and I have only seen that bottle a small handful of times.
I haven’t gone too deep into rums because most of them are too sweet for me, but I might have to try and track down one of their limiteds. I really appreciate the recommendation! 🥃
Thank you very much for the recommendation. I’ve been curious for a while now… some of the liquor stores down in FL had 7-8 different garrison brothers and a few of the bottles had medals. Not sure if those were picks or just the higher end offerings. Seeing all of them in a row really peaked my interest.
@@Neat.Bourbon the medals are higher offerings. The medal has the name of the bottle on it. Garrison has theory everyday small batch and a single barrel that you get anywhere.
I have the cask strength high rye bourbon and it is a solid bottle. The rye spice/notes shows up on the palate with tons of brown sugar/cinnamon/clove for me. It’s 6yr. age stated. Not very viscous, but I like the bottle. A buddy of mine is big on them and gave me the bottle as a gift and I would buy another. I would probably buy the regular cask strength bourbon once I finish this bottle.
Good question, so back in the old days allocations were applied based on store sales, so the higher volume stores would receive a larger allocation for drops. It still feels like that holds relatively true for the most part. I still think the bigger stores in the suburbs or around cities still receive a wide variety at the drops, but the rural stores will still receive a good portion of the ultra rare bottles. I don’t have any specific notes to point to from the VABC, but I do read all the comments, blogs, reddit, and other people around the state. Like I was doing a trade with a guy to there day and he was telling me how his store near Petersburg was basically skunked on the Dec. drop. I feel there will be more disappointments this weekend since there haven’t been very many distillery releases since Dec. Hope this helps some. Cheers 🥃
I saw that when I was rewatching the footage at my house - I need to pickup a batch from 23’ I am almost done with the C Bach from 22 and I hear this years releases are great.
As a fellow Virginian, definitely curious about your opinion on the lost bottle you picked up. Even at $32 I’d be hesitant buying it without knowing more!
I think Lost is pretty pricey since their bottles are only 375… I bought the cask strength and after 20% off it was $40+ tax. I’m going to post a VA bottles review in the next week or two. I did pop the lost to satisfy my curiosity and think they have huge potential because the sweet flavors were all there, just felt a little muted for the proof. I only had 2 sips and will revisit for a more in-depth review, but my initial thoughts were all positive and well made.
Yeah I just realized the 375ml size.. maybe ill try in the future sometime but probably a pass for now. Still interested in your official review though!@@Neat.Bourbon
Remus VII wasn’t allocated this year for whatever reason and seemingly unless VA ABC tells people that it’s allocated they don’t want it….there are still 8 bottles at my local store and it dropped 2 weeks ago. Good bottle in my opinion not sure it’s worth the 120 though.
Ahh, appreciate the comment. I had a buddy that said Remus 7 was a drop the other week and didn’t realize they would be on the shelf. I tried the Remus last night and the initial nose was awesome and the palate was flavorful, but felt a little thin… once the glass got some air the rye notes really shined. I’m not disappointed, but agree $120 is getting excessive for that quality. Thanks for watching, cheers 🥃
@@08Ktraugh I’m down near Richmond. We occasionally get some random solid stuff on the shelves. Have you ever used VABourbon.com? VA ABC pissing me off. ABC state with above msrp to secondary pricing. That Gold Spot was $109 msrp and $60-$80 as pallet drops at Costco with secondary prices being $200. VA has the priced at $299. Such bullshit
The $300 gold spot does say “limited edition” IDK what that means, but 3x the cost of the stranded offering sounds like a cash grab for a new branding… the inconsistency of the ABC has been frustrating. I’m curious if they are about to change the drop system again since we haven’t seen a drop in weeks?
@@Neat.Bourbon it was an anniversary release over a year ago and tens of thousands of bottles were produced. VA held theirs and put on shelves recently at way above secondary pricing.
I've had that Willet purple top Wheated in my hands twice for $249 but can't pull the trigger. Please review it!

Used to live within walking distance of Foursquare rum distillery. Some of their limited runs of rum are great, though tough to find in the States.

Very old Barton 100 is awesome enjoy buddy
Thanks man, tried it out over the weekend and can’t beat it for the money.
Congrats on that Remus, enjoy.
Thank you! Popped it open the other day and it is pretty solid. The $120 price tag was steep, but I’m happy with the juice inside!
Looking forward to your feedback on the Ragged Branch. I did not realize their wheated version was now BIB. My bottle from batch #3 is only 90 proof.
I did crack it open right when I got home and it really packs a lot of flavor into 100 proof.
I've had a Ragged Branch party source store pick that was so good, went back twice to get another bottle 🎉
That’s awesome! I haven’t seen a Ragged Branch pick before, and will keep an eye out. Glad to hear you liked their pick and thanks for sharing! 🥃
Garrison brothers is good stuff. Try the single barrel or go for gold and try cowboy or laguna madre

That video is coming soon! I appreciate the comment/support! 🥃
I grabbed both bottles of the Green River a month or so back, and I like the bourbon much more than the wheated.
Thanks for letting me know - I’ll stop looking for the wheated and snag the bourbon. I appreciate it!

The Remus isn't allocated. They have been placing bottles throughout VA.
