Hello Aki ! I'm happy that you talked about "La Tortue Rouge". I'm French and I have hardly heard about it. The thing that I liked the most is that you considered legit enough to be put into an Anime Film video. That's cool ! France is the 2nd best consumer of manga in the world. And for example we did have Dragon Ball 10 years before America. But creating a manga/anime in France is sooo hard (there are only like 5 or 6 real authors of french manga) mostly because our publishing system isn't adapted. If you want to laugh your ass off, watch Ouran Highschool Host Club. If you want to watch something gory and tense, watch Hellsing or Corpse Party. If you want something that's all of the above, watch Kill La Kill. Just some recommendations.

I enjoyed the classic Triples of Beoville (I spell that right?) There are two other French animations Ive seen before that were all must sees, one about a cat who night lights with a theif and the other about a classic magician whose coming to grips with his eventual career end. I found both on Netflix once, so perhaps they'll reappear again.

I never read the manga so i can't say that it stayed true to it however i can feel that they put a lot of effort in putting the main points and some extra bits just so that we (ppl who didn't read the manga) could understand the characters better. Btw the reason i wanted to watch it was because of this video, so thank you Aki! My sister thought it was boring tho. Welp, to each their own i guess.

Watched Your Name at AX, and it does not disappoint. It is beautiful, heart wrecking, hilarious, and overall makes you feel a vast range of emotions. Throughout the movie, Makoto Shinkai actually walked around the audience to see the emotions he put us through!! Fyi: lots of crying and laughter. Why did the poster for "Your Name" look like the poster for "The Place Promised in Our Early Days" I wonder? I guess it doesn't matter, but I really thought about that as soon as I saw it. Obviously as well, after seeing it in this video, it looks like the "5 Centimeters per Second" poster. On a related note, I just picked up a few anime movies recently and one of them really stood out to me. It's called "The Empire of Corpses" and is set in an alternate London, presumably in the 19th century. It's based off a Novel by Phillip K. Dick and produced by the same team who animated Attack on Titan. The scenario is that humans have found a way to raise the dead and use them as the labor force for whatever they need. A young medical student named John Watson is trying to find a way to reanimate a dead friend, but with his soul intact. The only way to do that, is to try and the notes left by the legendary doctor Frankenstein who is the only known name to ever reanimate a corpse with it's soul. It's an overall very interesting idea and it turned out well. I will warn you, it's rated MA for a reason, but if that doesn't bother you, it's worth checking out.
oh man, I'm so pumped for Koe No Katachi! I read the manga and it's so beautiful. the character development in this story is so amazing and aaaaaww, soooooooo pumped!! And I want to watch Kimi No Nawa, looks reeaally pretty. And I am interested in The Red Turtle, too.
