    If you really wanted to be transparent, at the end of the video you should display the value DJVG would pay for the same games vs price charting vs GS ( mild suggestion )

      I won't speak for Cooper, but as a fellow game store owner, I don't give out that information. It's not because I'm trying to be secretive and plan to low ball you in person or something. One of the main reasons is that I need to see the exact item you wish to sell to know what I can actually offer. Stores like GameStop don't care in the slightest about condition or completeness (which hurts the customer in the long run), but many retro game stores will adjust their offers and pricing accordingly. You also can't break down your buy-values ahead of time by those factors, since most people's understanding of "good condition" or "CIB" varies. Also, in Cooper's case, someone might watch this video a couple months from now, and the offers could be completely different just purely based on the constant fluctuation of the prices. Personally, I just don't want to give out any false expectations to my customers. If you want to sell your games, you have to bring them into the store and I will go through everything, test what I need to, and make you an offer.

    • @WaltHeisenberg-b4h
      @WaltHeisenberg-b4h 3 дня назад

      @@MrNicholas7 That's the thing though, he knows the EXACT condition of the items in his collection, so if he wanted he could throw out a number that if someone that could be assumed to be a "known regular" came in to the store with that exact collection in that exact condition. So yea, the value will change over time, but as of EOY 2024, he showed the price charting value and what Gamestop website would offer, so a DJVG trade in credit value would be an INTERESTING number to have in this video. It's not about false expectations, because literally no one probably has a collection of Sic's calibur, so he could inflate it a little bit, but at least give us an idea of how much DJVG is BETTER than Gamestop, rather than just "I guarentee any retro video game store will give you more than gamestop" ... $1 more? or like... an actual number more.... Just about transparency, who knows maybe then Retro Rick will throw out a video saying he's pay WAY MORE THAN DJVG and we can get that spicy youtube drama going.

    • @WaltHeisenberg-b4h
      @WaltHeisenberg-b4h 3 дня назад +2

      @@SicCooperOfficial It did cross you mind since you said at 29:19 that "every other retro video game store would be able to beat gamestop". But anyways, you already replied to another comment DJVG would be between 60 and 80%. So PC value = 7.8k, GS value = 1.2k, GS cash = 0.85, DJVG value @ 70% = 5.5k. Of course if you wanted to be apples to apples with Gamestop not caring if it was CIB, you'd list the PC value as LOOSE only, but that would be nit picking and probably didn't cross your mind to be that thorough.
      Edit: and since DJ doesn't use PC for reals for reals, lets just put a 33% bump to the PC value for "condition" across the board since that is a pretty sweet collection in better than PC CIB value truly.

    I think it’s been shown for decades now that GameStop does not want to work with 50% margins. They want to make 70-80% profit on anything they take in. The prices they take them in may be low but the prices they sell them at are just good enough that it’ll almost always be instant sellouts when they get them in. They’re always out of stock online because resellers also buy them in hopes of getting complete copies (for something like gamecube) and making profit reselling it. If it’s a loose copy then it’s just an easy return to a local store. As much as it sucks that people sell it for cheap, no one forces them to do that and collectors like me get lucky later on like when I got my copy of emerald for $60 from GameStop last year before they raised prices on it.

    I don’t have any experience selling retro games at GameStop but I have had sold modern games and consoles before and I have gotten more back than what was told on the site before. I don’t know if it was because of the condition and or I had everything that came with the console or game or maybe it was the employee that I was working with. GameStop is not the place to sell retro games period. They don’t even check if the game is legit or not.

    I heard they offer ridiculously low prices on all their grail / high priced retro cartridge-based games to discourage customers from trading in repros since its not feasible to (and they don't want to invest in) training their entire staff to spot fakes. They also sell them for below market value because they know a good percentage of the ones they are selling could be repros as well. As an example they are currently offering $26.95 cash / $38.50 credit (for PRO members) for Chrono Trigger which they sell for $99.99. It's currently $209.99 (loose) on price charting.

    My nostalgia for Pokemon games ended with Diamond and Pearl basically so I've never been able to really get into any Pokemon games after that point. I got a flashcart for $8 with 208 ds games on it which include all those other Pokemon games but even then I've tried Pokemon White and played it for a little I'm at like the 3rd Gym maybe 4th but it just doesn't feel the same to me because many of the Pokemon I have no idea who they are... I think I would enjoy Soul Silver or Heart Gold more because I did play crystal version a few times and I at least know those Pokemon but I really loved emerald and saphire growing up so I've been thinking about trying Alpha Saphire.
    I basically own every pokemon game from the original game boy up to diamond and pearl besides Ruby so that's where my Nostalgia is for me.

    Thing is…GameStop is known to take those famous reproduction (fakes) cartridges for Pokemon. Have seen both in GameStop stores. Actually purchased an authentic Yellow GB version during Covid. Had the number punch in label and battery. This was from my local store. A GameStop I’ve been in NYC on the other hand had a bunch of GBA fakes as no number punch in the labels, and you could tell the plastic looked cheep too. Told employee you know those are fake right? He said yes he knows they are fake but are to still take them hence why they sell Pokemon games way below Price Charting, as average consumer can’t tell and they just want to play the game and don’t care.

    Gamestop isn't that bad as a buyer, you just got to visit enough stores and ask enough times to see retro to get authentic copies for a deal. Or roll the dice and order them online when they get int stock. I got CIB Heartgold, Plat, all the 3DS titles and a handful of the DS rangers between 2020 and 2022 from just asking to see the retro stock. During B2G1 online, scored a lot of loose copies of the Gameboy titles including an autherntic Emerald / Sapphire / Crystal along with the more common R/B/Y. Hit rate 90% authentic, the other 10 had to return in person instore. But yea, if you know the value don't trade in. duh.

      @@superj2644 Its the same people all the resellers at yard sales and flea markets and facebook market place refreshers are looking for - normal people who just want to clear space in their attic / garage and really don't care how much an item is worth if they can just get some cash or credit without having to deal with looking up values, ebay, selling fees, taxes, etc. Gamestop offers that service and plenty of people take them up on that offer because of their (many) locations and current gen inventory. Probably half the people on this channel from the 80s/90s probably had the majority of their gaming collection thrown away at the dump because empty-nester mom wanted that room for storing yarn or something after we went to college and didn't give a sheet about some old Atari or NES games.... because Halo and Goldeneye was so much cooler! Then come to find out years later that Power Blade 2 was actually worth some cash but all we told mom to keep was an old beat up Zelda game and Mario Bros 3 worth $15 (sadly, a true story)

    That said most retro games are not worth it to sell to gamestop vecause they sell them for so cheap. Great place to sell a wii sports or a modern game
    Also you should've put how much gs sells the games for compared to how much credit they give.

    In the UK, CEX has become the defacto place to trade in old games. They're hit or miss from my experience, but at least they list CIB, boxed with no manual and loose for cartridge games. The percentages vary pretty wildly by game, but taking CIB Pokemon Crystal as an example, cash is 63% and trade credit is 73% compared to PriceCharting value, way better than what GameStop offers. 😅

    Two things you should have done. Calculate the value of your stuff loose as well. Yes I understand it’s CIB but because GameStop pays the same to be fair you should show the value as loose. Also you should show what your store would pay for the game in loose as well. That would really show accurately how bad they are

      I 100% disagree. People said the same stuff 10 years ago, and retro gaming and collecting has only gotten more and more popular. Companies release retro style products like the NES and SNES classic because they know people love the older games, and I don't see that changing any time soon. People will be interested in retro gaming for decades to come, and as soon as it becomes a little cheaper, even more people will get into it.
