"placing it into the hands of Jesus" while I've heard of this quite a few number of times, I'm still struggling to fully give it to him and understand what that means "to place the memory, the feelings, the emotions" into his hands. When I go back to the specific memory as if it were present, though I try to picture and feel God with me it's hard to understand why it had to happen to me and why I had to go through it. I suppose it'll take some more work to fully heal from this memory. I'll keep going back to it with these instructions and hope one day I'll be fully healed.

Interesting, this is very similar to some powerful techniques in secular therapy (particularly Internal Family Systems therapy). Commonly what works for trauma healing is connecting some positive, compassionate energy (whether from inside yourself or from an external source) with the difficult emotions and memories in the trauma. This allows the part of yourself that's hurt to heal. I'm not Christian, but I expect the method you suggest here works because it uses the same psychological mechanism as effective secular therapy. Using Jesus as a felt source of love and compassion makes sense as a healing method for Christians, so it's great this method exists.
One of the ideas in Internal Family Systems therapy is that one's compassionate core cannot be overwhelmed by trauma. Translating it into Christian language in a way that might be helpful, you might say: Jesus cannot be overwhelmed by your trauma, in his infinite love and compassion he can hold it however bad it is. However bad and difficult it feels, it can be brought to Jesus, and doesn't need to be locked away.
