I was a paid firefighter for 29 years, and I read something today that I want to share. I would much rather sit for 4 hours listening to the shit you are going through than to sit for 15 minutes listening to your eulogy. Remember that. There are those of us who are willing and ready to listen. Take care brothers and sisters.

We lost a bunch of medics in our county to suicide. Its why we as a county have worked to change our view on PTSD since then and it has helped significantly as well.

My mom died from being dragged under a semi truck while crossing the street. My father was a fire fighter, I intend on being a police officer. There will be a child, who has lost a parent from an accident, I want to be there for them because I know they'll be going through hell. I want to get that child out of that dark place.

Hey newcomers to EMS and/or Fire Service: you are allowed to feel these things too. I don't care how long you've been in the service, if you've been on a call (or run) and its hitting you, reach out. I am also here for you, as a fellow medic/firefighter who is struggling.

I proudly spent 15 years on the job in both law enforcement, and as a tactical paramedic/ firefighter (both paid and vol).
