Bare essentials are required by law or else it's parental neglect: that means food, clothing, a place to sleep the fact that she has called eating dinner a "privilege" is just disgusting and I sincerely hope when she's old none of her kids will have anything to do with her because she's a tyrant.

My childhood was hell, full of all sorts of abuse so when my kids were born, I swore I was never going to lay a hand on them, which I didn't, and I only raised my voice once to my daughter when she was 16 but it was out of fear, not anger because our jeep began to roll back and she panicked and jumped out, which could have ended so badly.
Both of my kids now 28 and 23, are hard working, respectable, decent members of society and I am so incredibly proud of them. They both have empathy for others and are caring and considerate. They've moved away but I talk to them everyday, and they still open up to me about everything.
Did they make mistakes growing up, of course they did, everyone makes mistakes but that's how we learn. The worst punishment either of them recieved was when my daughter got drunk at a party when she was underage, I woke her up by banging pans but I taught them by talking to them, not punishing because I did the same things growing up, so I had no right to punish them really.
These idiots are raising children who are going to end up on the news because of the abuse they call parenting.

I grew up Mormon (I’m pretty sure that’s what Ruby is, which is why I bring this up) and there were enough parents like her that sent kids my age to wilderness camps that it sadly doesn’t surprise me. Mormonism is toxic brainwash and is so far from actual Christian teachings that it’s a wonder it has survived so long. It doesn’t help Brigham married 15 year old Clarissa Decker. Joseph Smith married 14 year old Helen Mar Kimble. Brigham stole a wife and mother from her real family and impregnated her (Zina Diantha Huntington) or that Brigham taught slavery was a divine institution in his Horace Greeley interview. When Chad had a phone, he had an Instagram account. Lots of girls fancied him and subscribed. He would interact with them daily. Ruby and Kevin were shocked because the girls were not Mormon, a sin in their minds. They removed his phone. The Mormon church demanded that all young men go on mission. Chad would have to go on a 2 year Mormon mission when he left school. When he returned, he would be required to find a nice Mormon girl, marry her, and start a family. Anything other than that was unacceptable. They sent them to the camp to change his behaviour.

I still feel like Ruby is naturally a control freak in a very rigid religion and this whole insane connexions thing is just another control technique. I dont know if thats her needing to control things around her to feel comfortable because she cant handle the unknown, or if she can't cope with not having a rigid structure for herself to follow. Either way Jodi is a manipulative psycho that has used her influence on Ruby (whom I genuinely believe - while not innocent - is a victim in need of help and support) to achieve her own ego je*k off agenda. I hope Ruby can get the hell away from Jodi, rebuild her family connections, and get the obvious help she needs to cope with life. If you watch any of the old 8 passengers videos it's so apparent that she has severe anxiety and can't cope with the unknown or things out of her control.

The food was amazing, so I’m happy about that and I’m grateful for the gifts that I get. I only had 2 panic attacks during the 2 separate Hanukkah and Christmas celebrations, so that was better than usual. I’m very lucky because when I start to shut down, my parents and other family members thankfully understand and give me space and let me go wind down in another room for as long as I need. It’s not anything that they’ve done, I just get overly stimulated and need to ground myself. The Holidays are mentally difficult for a lot of people. I feel so bad for these children, though. He was literally taken out to the middle of nowhere and left there by himself at 16 years old. All he was given was a small backpack that had was food and water for the first couple of days maybe a week if rationed properly. He also had no shelter and only the clothes on his back. He was expected to find his own food and shelter and the only contact with people he had was one of the workers would come out every few weeks to make sure he wasn't dead. Did you see Ruby's face light up when Jody was telling her daughter she's selfish, on her child's BIRTHDAY!? This is a straight up cult. They use their own "buzz-words" over and over again "distortion" "being in truth".....I mean WTF? I feel so bad for their children that are still young enough to be truly scarred from this sort of horseshit. Shari, her eldest kid, popped up in her Ruby's own family holiday party and Shari looked so light and happy to be there. I know that none of Ruby's sisters or her brother speak to her anymore and Ruby doesn't attempt to socialize with her family anymore. These two are worse than a Wilderness Therapy program because they are hiding behind "Smiles of loving mothers" while they take pride in being cruel.

Insurance companies don’t cover wilderness therapy because it’s not medical therapy. There’s no medical providers working on staff 24/7. They have to provide actual medical treatment in order to be covered. I’m not even getting into the dangerous conditions of these places. I work for a smaller not for profit medical insurance company in Washington State and every contract we have explicitly states that Wilderness Therapy is not covered and are considered plan exclusions.

Theres only really been 1 time when i supported a parent taking away christmas. This mom had 2 sons, 1 14 and 1 10. Every year she spent THOUSANDS (yes, plural) of dollars PER SON on christmas. Well when her eldest was 14, that year he decided thay he could do whatever he wanted and get away with it cuz at the time he was diagnosed with aspergers. What could he have done to warrant loosing any gifts from anyone kn christmas you might ask. Well...
    -routinely stole his parents wallets
-got in a physical fight with his little brother to the extent that the younger almost needed stitches
-pulled a knife on a classmate because they didnt want to give him their phone
-would push girls over to have a chance to look up their skirts or grabed girls chests
-shop lifted at every store in a 1mile radius of their house
-confiscating stuff from him didnt work cuz hed just break into where it was hidden a.d take it back as well as anything of his parents
-grounding didnt work cuz he wouldnjust breaknout of the house and do what he wanted
No one would press charges on him cuz he was "special needs" and even thiugh his mom said he knew better, everyone else assumed he couldnt help it. Only charges hed get were if he stole from somewhere over $100 worth of stuff or if his parents pressed charges for theft. The only time he seemed to grasp that there were consiquences fkr his actions was when she had enough, loaded up all of his gifts, took him to a childrens shelter to donate them, then kn the ride home told him that everythingnhe just donated was what he was gonna get for xmas and his gift this year was the the gift of giving to those in need.

This feels like the kind of crap they saw on Dr Phil and decided it was a great idea. By the way, punishment for lying should be a week or two, not seven months.

I remember one of the other kids wanted to stop playing the piano and Ruby as an answer decided they would practice 4 times a week instead of 2...after that the kid didnt complain anymore and she was naive enough to think her “solution” worked saying something like "see, you didn't want to play anymore and now you love it!” Imagine what would have happened if he ever said that he hated the Anastazi experience they would have send him back or to a much worse camp.

As a parent of teens, I cannot understand this behavior. I just can’t. I want my children to be healthy, happy, grounded, and to become the people they choose to be. I have done my best to give them what they need to find their way in life, but their path is just that…theirs. Not mine. I don’t control every single breath of air they take, I don’t control their friends, their passions, their joy. These poor kids are living as robots completely controlled by others, and it’s just so sad. They’ll either rebel when they reach adulthood and break contact with their parents and their cult, or they’ll give in and become just like their parents, continuing the cycle of ignorance and abuse.

Years ago I spent way too much time on a RUclips mom gossip site (embarrassing, I know😂) and there were so many other things discussed about Ruby on there that were clear red flags very early on. Now all the evidence of some of this is scrubbed from the Internet at this point, but we were a very sluethy gossip forum and while there was always lots of speculation, this stuff was confirmed all with evidence from the vlogs and their old blog entries.
    Here’s some tidbits I can’t remember.
    1. Russel broke his FEMUR when he was a baby. Ruby waited ONE WEEK before taking him in to the ER to get checked out. She claims he “rolled off the couch”. The femur is the strongest bone in the body (the hardest to break) AND this occurred at an age when Russell’s bones would still be soft and slightly flexible (harder to break). It would take a tremendous amount of force from rolling off the couch to break an infant’s femur. Major red flag.
-does this remind anyone of a story with Shari’s stomach as a baby??
-Russell didn’t walk until he was over two and had some “other delays”. Little sketchy if you ask me.
    2. Ruby once referenced a difficult time in her life around after the 4 baby (and a number of miscarriages). During this time, she didnt change Julie’s clothes for days at a time and left her “filthy”. She referenced a lot of neglect that she seemed to regret. Her mental health sounded very poor at the time. She didn’t outright say it, but it was highly speculated (based on some references and avoidance certain topics when she was describing this time) that she was giving hints to having dealt with a pill addiction during this time.
-she once gave Julie a “karen cut” To add some volume to the back of her head because (as she explained) it was flat from when she was a baby. I can’t remember exactly why now, but she referenced something that made us believe she knew about the flat head issue when she was a baby and felt she was the cause of it and regretted not doing the helmeting to fix it.
Anyways, this are just a few of the CRAZY things from there. The site crashed but I’m sure it’s archived somewhere. I’d love to see someone do a deep dive into this. This family had red flags from the beginning. I didn’t have Ruby joining a cult on my future predictions bingo card, but I’m not surprised at all by these turn of events.

I have a mother similar to Ruby. She deprived me of food, presents, affection, and the validation that ANY part of my existence mattered.
I found myself lying to her just to get her to back off (like Chad saying he never wanted to go back to his 'old ways') and then once I was out of her house, the lying continued to avoid being chastised. I found myself lying about my politics so that I wouldn't be called names.
I cut her off completely in my early/mid 20's - and now as someone in my late 30's, I'm confident telling you I do not miss having her in my life.
As for my father? He and my mother have always been married - always lived together. While he wasn't AS bad as my mother, he stood idly by and let her treat me like that. I also cut him off, and honestly, there's nothing about it I miss.
You don't have to be loyal to your parents. You owe them nothing.

These 2 wouldn’t know Love if it smacked them in the face. Loving your child is making your child feel safe, cherished, secure, wanted and content. Wanting your kids to starve, feel alone, feel unsafe, feel sadness and anxiety isn’t love. It’s emotional abuse, it’s mental abuse, it’s just plain freaking abuse. The fact that CPS in America think this is all acceptable behaviour tells you everything you need to know. I feel really sad for all her kids because they’re going to grow up very emotionally and mentally stunted. They’ll all grow up for be Narcissists. Trauma breeds trauma. So whoever comes in contact with these kids when they’re older, if they don’t seek the help they need, it’s not going to end well, for anyone.
