    I can't WAIT to see him work his MAGIC on this beast😎 🤞
    My first running car was a 70 Skylark w the 455 Stage 1 bored 40 over (462) a cam and a very large rejetted quadrajet
    I could pass everything but a gas station or a tire store. It was a torque monster to say the least.
    The first burnout twisted the driveshaft in half👍

    I bought a 76 Delta 88 2 door royale from the 93yo original owner that had 63,000 and change miles this car is immaculate inside and out its grey with blue interior with a 455 goin on 3 months ago. I bought it to go big wheel racing the plan is to throw a turbo ls setup in it but last month just to playing around I put a Howard's cam & lifters,used edelbrock tourqer intake with a 750cfm double pumper I rebuilt my pawpaw has had for years, jegs brand hei distributor and some shorty headers with 3" exhaust with some fake flowmasters and turn downs I also welded the spider gears up and this big boat actually gets up and moves a little now! LoL and rips badass burnouts now over the winter its gonna get a turbo ls2 with rods and pistons and ls3 heads and some Rucci 26's I know alot of yall older guys are gonna hate it but its gonna be classy I already named it the u.s.s Alabama because the guy I got it from is a navy vet and its pretty close to battleship grey

    BTW, my first car with a '70 Skylark with a 350 and a quadrajet. 200hp factory. At 15 years old, my funds were limited so I did: Cap (see through!), rotor, ignition curve kit, plugs, yellow Accel wires, new Quardrajet (mixed up the plug wires then melted the old Quadrabog with starting fluid! LOL), Cal Custom 10" chrome air cleaner, painted the valve covers black krinkle. Got it all done and it was STILL a turd. Well, at least it still ran when I sold it and got to learn a bunch about cars.

      The reason the olds diesel sucked was the piston design.
      Detroit started the teardrop in the piston.
      Cummins also use this.
      Vw TDI also uses this.
      I wanna see an old gm- diesel “conversion” running direct cylinder injector with a teardrop piston.

    Love the content. Keep it coming! I like how you get the engines to run for next to no money invested. It is refreshing to see this approach compared to some the automotive TV shows where they portray $4000 for a rebuild is no big deal.

    • @SweatyFatGuy
      @SweatyFatGuy 4 года назад

      If its in decent shape, doesn't have wiped or spun bearings, the pistons aren't broke, and no bent or burned valves, it will run.. it might smoke a bit, but it will run even if it was kinda stuck.. not super stuck, just kinda stuck.
      Compared to a $13k crate motor $4k is a bargain, but you can rebuild a Pontiac that makes 500-550hp/tq for $2200-$3000, that is forged pistons and rods, cam, lifters, bored .030, balanced, and having Butler or SD port the iron heads(that is the high end at $3k). Doing a Buick is a little more $$ but not bad. The trick is getting the machine work done and sourcing the rest of the parts yourself, and knowing what you need to get. Having a shop rebuild it for you will mean you get a stone stock engine for $6k. They have to mark up every piece they get, and if they get it from a local store, they will charge you list price for most of it.. which is quite a bit more money than what Summit, Jegs, Butler, KRE, SD, etc sell them for.
      With the Buick, Kenne Bell and TA are the place to go, and because not many are built and raced the stuff is going to cost a bit more.. but you are starting out with a good engine design that will fit anywhere a sbc will fit... and you get 455+ cubes from the start. The 455s make crazy torque starting at idle, and they carry it past 5000 easily, so no need for deep gears, big stalls, and all that mess.
      We put a 430 in a Vega back in the 80s.. it had a problem with breaking stock rear ends.. no idea why that might happen. It fit much better than the sbcs because the exhaust points downward in the BOP engines and that means you can get to the plugs easily and not burn wires.... among other improvements and better design features of the BOP engines over the chevy.. The cubes are lots of fun.

    • @sbf_fox2434
      @sbf_fox2434 4 года назад

      @@SweatyFatGuy Bet that Vega was fun. I read guys swapped Buick 350s in place of the Buick V6s in the H bodies like the Monza. I put a couple Chevy smog 350s in Monzas back when I was a teenager. I think you hit on the drawback of the Vegas and Monzas - the rear end. The Monza only came with a torque arm 7.5" like the 3rd / 4th gen Camaros. It was not the stoutest thing. Local guy ran low 10s in a NA 377 cid Spyder driving to the track. He put a Southside Machine kit in it with subframe connectors and ladder bars on a narrowed 12 bolt.
      I like your advice for building a motor. I only had one motor that I had machine work done on. Back in the early 2000s I bought a roller 351w motor from a van in a JY and just sat on it. A couple years ago I decided to finally put it in something and it is now in my 85 Mustang vert that used to have a CFI 302. My big mistake was not rotating the crank before I bought it. I found it rotated part of a revolution in each direction. Turns out a rod spun and the rod got all bent up on the big end. It took a small chip out of the bottom of a bore like you would make for a stroker. A guy I bought some parts from gave me a set of rods and a crankshaft from another 351w for free. I found a local machine shop that had a price list online. They had affordable prices and I had them thermally clean the block as it was all sludged up. They use some sort of flame setup to burn the engine block clean. They put in new cam bearings and freeze plugs. I wanted to just have the bores honed, but he discouraged that. I had them bore it 0.020 over and hone it. They also line honed the block, surfaced my heads, polished the crank and pressed my new pistons on the rods. I think I have about $500 in machine work. I don't think that is too bad and the engine runs good.

    that Q-Jets is from a 1975 -79 Chevy or Caddy. only Chevy and Cadillac used side inlets for fuel lines. Buick, Old, Pontiac all used a front inlets. the throttle linkage was different on the carb depending on the year. if I remember correctly, Buick used a special 800cfm Qjet on these motors. the good news is that the M4MC and M4MV carbs were great performing carbs. In fact Edelbrock used it as the base design for the Performer RPM Qjet #1910. which is by far the best Qjet I have ever ran.

    5:36. Buick Big Blocks were always interesting to me. If I recall correctly, some of them came from the factory with shaft mount rockers. Some of them have combustion chambers that resemble LS engines. Quench pads with open chambers. Others are just wide open chambers with no quench pad to speak of. Another neat feature about these engines is the way the exhaust ports extend out of the cylinder head without any coolant, then they go into those gusseted angular exhaust manifolds. And they had the distributor on the front. Way easier than a normal BBC. I always liked the black valve covers that said "Buick" on them, from the Nascar days. They had the turbo 6 on them. The Buick-powered indy cars in like, 1988 were also cool.
    Buick will always have a dear spot for me. My Great Grandfather used to have a 1970 LeSabre with a 455. Orange with a tan top. He'd listen to Andres Segovia and talk to me about the stock market. I still have his 1992 LeSabre, and his red C1500 pickup (I LS swapped it).

    Later big Buick engines had a cylinder core shift problem. When you have the pan off look for it. Usually number 2 will be shifted back. It can make it too thin to over bore. I avoid 73 and later if I can. This is a 75 or 76.

      I bet it would lol it would be driver whichever one slips up that tenth of a second but considering how much bigger a big block Chevy is compared to the other 3 olds Pontiac and Buick motors they made damn near the same power and torque numbers which be you would think. Shouldn't be right so if they are physically smaller then they are lighter so again an advantage myself I was pontiac the mid 70s had the 301 come out in Firebirds so out came that and in went either a 455 or 400 plug and play easy peasy and then it was a firebird the 301 was well their answer to the 305 Chevy v8 torque but trying to squeeze every bit of gas mileage out like olds 260 or even Chevy's 262 find a Monza that was a v8 and bam you got a recipe for a hot rod w a bad ass 350 it's tight but no worse than an s10 v8 swap I never worked on one w headers but it didn't need them either a good strong 350 or 400 in. A Monza was yeah a blast we made one from two once it was an olds starfire a Monza basically and the v8 parts from the Monza went in it with a built 350 just a small cammed iron headed one is all it needed lol fun car if you can keep from breaking it trust me

    Hello sir, a few weeks ago i asked if your videos colour choices for the run-by-run overlays on your builds in your videos was "colourblind friendly". You answered you didnt understand which is fine. Would you consider using or having a script programmer for the program add an allowance for each individual runs to be shown in example: run1 being ... then run2 using .-. Then run3 using .-- etc. It would honestly help a few other people understand the results more thoroughly, ya know appeal to even more of an audience i dont know just a thought. Love the content sir wish ya all the best with the channel🖒

    Richard, I'm guessing that the engine is a '75 -'76 based on the HEI. These engines were rated at 205HP (net) I think, so I'm really curious what it does on the dyno. I'm even more curious to see how much power some intake/cam/head/exhaust modifications add to the engine. I absolutely love this channel- keep doing what you're doing!

    EGR and HEI. That engine is at least 1974 to 1976. Any chance there’s the typical casting date on it?

    What are the differences btw the old GM big blocks [Chevy, Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, etc?] They all seem to be right around 455 ci; did they use the same castings & just machine them to difference specs [bore x stroke; obviously, cranks would vary] or were they entirely unrelated beasts? Curious, but not a car guy, so no clue about the history...

      well, it saved my brothers truck from utter destruction, so it wins for me. drove a whole mile with NO OIL. the drain plug come out and drained all the oil. the stp stuck to the moving parts and saved it. put new oil in, fired it up, and the lifters only clacked for about a second. never had any problems. i use it to break cams in, along with a decent amount of zddp oil, and ive never had a cam failure. i dont even rev them to 2000rpm.(buncha bullshit)

    That's some of the reasons I shyd away from Buicks over the years the water pump electrolysis the oil pumps are a major issue w them often don't get me wrong they have gobs of torque if Pontiac and olds made a timing chain and water pump setup like Chevy that would have been the best lol but if I remember right the Buicks oil pump setup was sketchy at best and at 4500 rpms is when it would fail and in seconds you've got junk .. anyone remember what it was about ?
