What a nice run with a car I love. I'm very impressed. I've worked for Buick, raced them and promoted them since 1964. I love these cars. I still own a 71 GS Stage 1 that purchased for my father in 71. Nothing like Buick power.
Holy shit! I'm typically a FORD guy, but Buicks just command so much freak'n respect. I owned a stock '71 GS455 many years ago for about 2 months. It was hands-down, faster than any other muscle car I've ever owned. I really wish Buick would follow the lead of the new Camaro, Challenger and Mustang and produce a modern day retro body version of the 70-71 GS.
I owned three skylark a 70, and 2 71s., I love these cars so much, and I got into alot of trouble street racing them. But, no matter, where I went, in any of my skylarks, a) I got respect. B) I won bar tabs and bets by racing. C) I put fear in any driver I raced against....ricer, euro, or domestic muscle. (Modern or classic). My 70 model with just a 268 grind cam and ported heads on 10.0 compression engine absolutely DESTROYED a 2014 nissan gtr nizmo black edition by a full second at thunder valley in noble California last year.....the entire crowd was jumping up and down as if I'd won the national championship or something.....that's called respect.....oooooyaaaa.
What I love with Buicks is there's no 200 different combinations between respectable sleepers and top of the line launchers. You couldn't get a "somewhat" Stage 1 or 2. Its all the way or take your shopping somewhere else Mac !
that car is possesed!!!! Imagine if Buick could come out with a new version of the GSX, 6 cylinder and supercharged and its 440hp ! I do know the engineers at Buick really knew their stuff back then.
@Stroker70buhog Thanks! To answer some of your questions...The 60' time was 1.40 on the wheelie run, it has 10.5 X 30 Hoosiers on a 10" wheel. The 9.51 run was a 1.35 60' There is definatly quicker et's once the suspension gets tuned. NO trans brake,10" converter and the launches were right off idle, we do all our own head and intake porting in our shop Gran Sport Autobody Restoration.
This car was featured in Hemmings Muscle Machine's issue #112 "Built for the strip, this 1970 Buick GSX Stage 2 tribute is just as comfortable on the street." Now that's some Buick Power for you guy's! - Beautiful my friend.
I absolutely could not agree more. I had a 1970 stage 1 w/4 speed. Only thing I changed was the 10 bolt rear to a 12 bolt. I owned many muscle cars but this was my favorite and most powerful in stock trim. Had a 70 Torino cobra jet that I modified quite a bit that was fast but in stock trim the Stage one would take it
That's a stout Buick, my friend. When I bracket race I always clinch my teeth so hard that my jaws and eye sockets hurt really bad when the day is over. Having to make up ground in a hurry is nerve racking. Keep up the good work.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, I was thinking about doing an LSX swap on it but want to keep the whole old school aspect about it ya know. But yeah thanks again and keep me posted
Cool!! There is a lot that goes into the "whole" combination but I would have to say the heads are are good place to start. When we get a chance to update our website we will add a profile on the car.
Couple items of thought: Fine print of new engine garauntee- "Wheelie bars highly recommended, but not included". Note to self: Buy new packs of underwear when buying new engines (and wheelie bars). Dam nice looking car. Almost too mint looking to race, but you know you gotta!
Hey man I gotta say this video is what made me go out and grab myself a skylark, lol. I love Abodys and I got mine for a steal and finally picked up a 73' 455 complete but I want to be up on your level ive been in mid 10sec cars so I know what to expct but would u mind if u told me ur exact build for the 455, so I know what to work around or my best bets are Id appreciat it, thanks man.
Olease alloe me a moment to clean my drool. Thats was awsome. I have a bone stock 70 skylark bit i want that wheel and tire combo and advise would be much appriciated. Thanx
Wow that's very impressive , what is the 60' time even if it is with the back tires. Is that have a trans brake? I have a got 127 mph but no hook. I need to change my front springs to get more lift. Are your heads fully ported by Lasseter ?
The question is, what was the solution for #7 & 8 rod and the rear main bearings???Nothing like spinning bearings @ 5k on your one once matching numbered 1970 Stage 1
just bought 94 buick lesabre limited with 105k miles on it runs great love this car wish I had money hook it up anyone wanna hook me up with cool paint job lol
Nice! Buick 455 is my favorite engine, I would love to put one in my 69 Chevelle hehehe! I have a youtube channel dedicated to the Buick Boattail Riviera, check it out!

I gotta say you definitely have big brass ones for staying in it during the wheelie , Thanks for sharing this torque monster with us.
that car is possesed!!!! Imagine if Buick could come out with a new version of the GSX, 6 cylinder and supercharged and its 440hp ! I do know the engineers at Buick really knew their stuff back then.
LOL! 60 foot lights were tripped by the rear wheels! LOVE IT! =))

That's an old Kenne-Bell scoop on a steel Skylark hood, slicks are 9 X 30 Hoosiers.

LOL.... I still have my old Kenny-Bell catalogs from the mid 70's.

much love from a Buick born fan...KEEP IT UP MY BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My 70 GS455 Stage1 convertible can do that if its dropped from a flatbed. I must admit that I'm still looking for my lower jaw. Good work guys !
That's a stout Buick, my friend. When I bracket race I always clinch my teeth so hard that my jaws and eye sockets hurt really bad when the day is over. Having to make up ground in a hurry is nerve racking.
Keep up the good work.
WOW!! Buick Torque !!
What an awesome machine! That thing is sweet. Can't wait until mine is painted and decent looking.
Yeah, drilling & porting oil galleys, re-routing oil to feed rear of block.
Yes the control arms are lowered a bit, an anti roll bar has been added recently but hasn't been tested yet.
Finally, some correct music with a driving beat to go with a kickass car tearin' it up!
Really nice! I Hope to get my car in the high 9's someday.
We drive a 72 GS"X".
Keep up the good work!
That was awesome! Thanks for posting the video.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, I was thinking about doing an LSX swap on it but want to keep the whole old school aspect about it ya know. But yeah thanks again and keep me posted
On a stock block too? Wow.
Even the music you made was awesome. Gorgeous car and fine vid.

It a 10" converter that stalls 3600
Olease alloe me a moment to clean my drool. Thats was awsome. I have a bone stock 70 skylark bit i want that wheel and tire combo and advise would be much appriciated. Thanx
I like it! How do you figure 60' on a car that carries the front past the lights? Does it have a cage? Past the point where it really needs it.
Wow that's very impressive , what is the 60' time even if it is with the back tires. Is that have a trans brake? I have a got 127 mph but no hook. I need to change my front springs to get more lift. Are your heads fully ported by Lasseter ?
I bet a set of wheelie bars cost less than a new front end. Probably a good investment, you think?
Are the lower, rear, control arms modified (dropped in front)? Thanks
What stall are you running?
The question is, what was the solution for #7 & 8 rod and the rear main bearings???Nothing like spinning bearings @ 5k on your one once matching numbered 1970 Stage 1
Music sounds like Joe Satriani??
