My wifes from Hartford! 👍 You definitely got the better of the three, she's an elegant, classy looking CC. Hope you find time to enjoy her, be safe! Had two 30' wooden CC's, even as a carpenter, I could never keep up with maintenance.
very nice video and walk around! I am looking at these myself. Did you end up purchasing? if so how do you get access to work on the engines or pull them out for replacement?
Thanks! The third one in this video, Thirsty Whale. Pricing on these is all over the place. Depends on condition, upgrades & updates, results of a survey...lots of variables. Last year when I bought it, examples in this condition were $40-50k...but I don't know what the range is now.
Long Shadow was not truly for sale at that time. Not for lack of trying, but I could not own her. You know the end of that story. But Long Shadow is on YW in earnest now. PS that old 80s-tastic tub chair on Ursa Major is OEM. I want to buy the chair but it looks like it will only go with the boat.
Thanks for the tour of Ursa Major. I have a few questions about that boat if you have time. I am going to transition from airplanes to boating, just for context. The boat looks great and would fit our mission, but I am concerned that she has been on the hard for some time. Do you feel this is a serious negative to this boat and mechanical systems? Any other thoughts on this boat are appreciated. Thanks
I did the same thing...airplanes to boats. Used to fly professionally, and if you go way back in my videos, you can see the first flights of my RV-7 that I built. Anyway, Ursa Major is a nice boat, just needs to be cleaned up. I had the same concerns about it being on the hard for a while, but *usually* when they are stored inside and heated, it isn't a big deal. Check all rubber hoses is the main thing, and as long as the engines were at least turned over every 4-6 months (or pickled, which I don't think these were), they should be fine. I can't really comment more on the mechanicals though as I just visually looked things over since we never got to a survey on it. It, in my opinion only, needed some more updating inside, but that's personal. The electronics are ancient, but were said to still work fine.
Shame on thatBroker for allowing those boats to get so filthy inside their Facility /Showroom sure it’s not permanent damage but with people walking on them and tracking it in and out of the Cabins that shouldn’t be left like that having a cleaning crew coming in and vacumn ing and doing some simple basic cleaning would make a tremendous positive impact on marketing that first 381 anyway
Can't disagree with that Craig! I felt the same way...tho I don't think it's the broker's responsibility. Owners would have to request a cleaning, so that falls on them. I couldn't believe how dirty it was when it is being sold...unless the owners just didn't care. I was wearing a nice shirt and shorts that day and I had to be VERY careful moving around that boat. SMH...Any time I sell something, it is clean as a whistle!
I have been aboard Ursa Major and Long Shadow about same time as this video was created in my search. I bought Stella Maris featured in Wisco Boater's earlier video. All of these boats were owned by octogenerians at the end of their boating careers. The boats could not be in as good a shape they are in had they not been cared and fed well for the last 4 decades. These captains are now passing the torch to us. These boats need to be loved again as they once were to be sure but it will be on us to take the helm now.
After reading that whole comment, why so many question marks? I can only imagine a comical raise in your voice in asking that. LOL...anyway, it's not about secrecy. I typically don't include prices of boats, whether I'm buying or selling, because it's only relative to when the video was published. That was two and a half years ago, and if someone watches that video in 5 years, it's completely irrelevant. Other factors would be that the hardtop boat wasn't officially listed for sale, and if they are listed, it is very easy to find the boats on the various sales sites. It isn't my job to promote someone else's sale, and even if I did say the price of each boat, that could change drastically the next day. As of writing this comment, prices are still pretty consistent to what they were then, so a quick search will show you what these sold for, and are still selling for, including mine...again, as of right now. That could change tomorrow.
No kidding. I've seen 2 of these boats listed, same year and based on photos and description (I only saw the listings, not the boats themselves) in the same condition. One was listed $30k less than the other simply because the seller was more motivated to get rid of it (moving and unable to take with them vs simply not wanting anymore). Pricing is definitely situational.
Boss I hope you have owned a boat before. You keep saying "not a big deal" but every one of those items is money out of pocket. One of the items I picked up on the first boat is the totally inadequate anchor gear. Chalk up another five thousand for new windlass, 70 lb rocna Vulcan anchor, and 300 feet of 3/8 chain. Then there are the electronics, all very old. I'd want new stuff, probably another 10 K. It starts to add up fast.
'Sup Chief? Well, you picked up on reasons I didn't try to buy the first boat in this video. Thirsty Whale (the last boat in the video) was my 6th boat...so I'm well aware of the costs associated in maintaining and upgrading boats. If you check out other videos on my channel, you'll see that I do almost everything DIY, and by doing so, I stand behind my statement of saying a lot of this stuff is "not a big deal". Costs are controlled and money is saved.
Risers are so cheap, and so easy to replace yourself, that I always tell people if you don't know when they were replaced last, it's better just to replace them to be sure.
@@ralphholiman7401 I will be replacing mine when I get the boat on the water...just haven't had time to do them over the winter. But I completely agree...if you don't know, replace them.
Ummm.....soooo....yeah.....you're old. The memory has gone. Blink twice if you need help....wait, you won't even remember this comment. Hell, I doubt you remember making this video. ha ha h a

Almost two years later and I enjoy every moment! Thanks for watching!
Wisco, Thank you so much for sharing your boat shopping. Super informative. That last one is a floating pimp palace!!! Nice!!
Thanks Chris!! Glad you enjoy the videos!

#3 was the best

after watching that whole video would have been nice to see the different prices. Why the secrecy ?????????????????

They all do it..by to resell don't want everyone knowing how much you paid
Love the boat hate the gas engines
Yeah diesels are really hard to come by in this model. At least I know how to work on them if needed. 👍🏻
