It's clear that Krumb's passion to create this is why this turned out amazing. The soulful organs, bass, and vivid lyrics make this a timeless classic. Hip hop cannot be denied when it is genuine.
What can you say primo gives insight on the creative process. Its like having a 5 starr experience but not realizing what all goes into making it happen
I actually stumbled upon this track this year, had never heard it before and I'm a hiphop head
Krumb's verse on Make 'Em Pay is one of the most prolific verses I've ever heard, still get chills when I hear it
Just an example that Preem is the King of the street joint. Krumb is a beast on this. And his verse on Make Em Pay is classic 🔥
CLASSIC!!
Watup my FBT Brotha..🤜🏿🤛🏿
This is a blessing for premier to do these. Thank you. He's breaking down the history of these records is keeping the music alive. Stay safe brother🙏
Couldn't have said it better. You don't hear about Akai S950s all that much these days but my S3000XL is still whirring away; I bought the s950 based on just the references in various Primo produced tracks (my Show + AG Next Level nyte time remix heads know what time it is)
"Closer To God" got me through hard times.
Same here fam. I was homeless first time I heard this joint. Definitely got me thru some shiznit
I STILL have that SOURCE edition with that "Quotable" that verse is AMAZING.
Shout to Scientifik too. He coined the name Lawtown.
What does Lawtown mean?
@@jamingjohnson2275 It's a nickname for Lawrence, Massachusetts.
@@josemor2719 oh.
Lawtown prod Ed OG its a classic. I think it came out posthumously
That krumbsnatcha quotable is one of my favorite bars of all time with that make em pay beat oh God
One of the best written songs of any genre.
Krumb was such an underrated mc. Underground legend!
That Make 'Em Pay verse still gives chills. Amazing!

My absolute fav production from premo, hardest record ever, Krumb is a MONSTER on that track
Every time Preemo does an episode, I add a new song to my 90s East Coast playlist 👌🏽
Lawtown!! Peace to Krumbsnatcha
Make em pay should have its own episode 🔥
Maan! Krumbsnatcha used to be in heavy rotation from 1997 to 2005 if I was driving anywhere. "Closer to God" the first time I ever heard him. "Killer in Me" had me hooked from then on.
Killer in me is really hardcore hip hop at its finest
@@pennywise1682 Yep, no doubt. With Nottz on the production you can't go wrong.
Krumb Snatcha, one of the most underrated MC's in my opinion. Hey Preemo, Gang Starr feat. Krumb Snatcha - Incredible, that beat was... Incredible!
fantastic song. Guru shined on that for real.
Been hoping he'd do this one. One of my top 5 favorite Preemo joints. He cooked the perfect backdrop for Krumb to tell that ill story.
Word
What you got in your top 5??
That "make em pay" verse is probably one of my favorite verses on the entire album.
DUDE, Putting Krumb Snatcha on The Ownerz Intro was One Of The Best things ever! that shit is so hard hitting to begin with makes you know what kind of album you're in for. Love The Ownerz Album sooo freaking much That shit is GANGSTARR
easily my favorite beat from Premo, can't get enough of this
Krumb Snatcha was a beast!
“Nowadays, ignorance is spreading through the streets like it was Cancer”
I didn’t know you was talking about that lyricist and that verse. That verse and song are locked in the memory.
Mindblowing that Krumbsnatcha is the one who brought those three specific samples to scratch in the hook... 🤯
My hands-down, all-time favourite Preem track. Encapsulates every aspect of what I love about DJ Premier - thoughtful sound, technically infallible, mastered to perfection and all with that head nod that is impossible to ignore...
One of the hardest Krumbsnatcha songs and one of Preems best beats
One of the greatest Hip Hop songs ever... the Beat insane, But Krumb's lyrics / storytelling on this was on another level
This track still gives me chills to this day. His words and the best were like instant magic. Like Jeru's first single. Crazy
I just listened to the (Moment of Truth) yesterday in the gym and "make the pay" is one of my favorite tracks of that masterful Album!!
Lawtown! Salute to the Wolves crew.
Dope 🙌🏽
One of the greatest hip hop songs of all time
Storytelling on another level! Thanks, Preemo. Looking forward to Non Phixion - "Rock Stars" one day. :D
"HipHop Quotables" and "Unsigned Hype" were my favorite columns in the Source. I always had to go to the train station to buy the mag, since it wasn't available everywhere in Germany. And it was expansive since it was an import.
How true . It was an expensive magazine ...let me ask you, is the scene in Germany as strong as before, or not really? Respect from Canada .
@@miroslavadobrilovic1881 The scene has changed a lot since the advent of the internet. It's more about consuming music than participating in the cultur publically in jams or cyphers or whatever. The "scene" as it was is non-existant. But I think that's a global phenomenon. As far as commercial success is concerned german rap is dominating the charts (next to "Volksmusik").
Take us back DJ Premier. I can only imagine how complex those 80s, 90s, studio sessions use to be…..
Make em pay. Classic!!
This is the best thing on RUclips. I watch these videos over and over again
Salute to Primo.🔥💾
Salute to Krumb Snatcha🔥🎤.
Salute and RIP to GURU 🔥🎤🔥💾🔥
And as always, respect the Floppy Y’all. Peace.💾💾💾🔥💾💾💾
Underrated
Definitely on a top 5 storytelling songs in hip hop
Very dope glad to see unc is finally getting his recognition he deserves. From Worcester To Lawtown the man impacted the whole scene…much respect preemo 🙏🏽
Aiiiight... chill!
That WOLVES song 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Yessir🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Grew up in lawtown, and krumb,lo and Lenny over at MIA. them dudes were icons and I have the upmost respect for that crew, shout to sonic and his bro Jamie, kabookee, little ,man.. list goes on..miss you all and the times when rap was rap…
SMPTE is the tone that you hear at the beginning of Physical Stamina when Jeru and Afu-Ra are encouraging each other to freak the rhyme and set it off
One of my all time favorite hip hop tracks of all time !! Salute to krumbsnatcha
This is such a banger, been waiting a long time for this one
This tune brings me back to the Stretch & Bobbito days, WKCR. NYC.
I would like to hear the history behind Soulkast "Première Salve", that beat is amazing!
Peace to the king of beats Dj Premier!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Salute to Krumb! Underrated but etched in history!!!!
As far as rhyming with Skill , and matching it with a ill beat Closer to God is the best song to come out of Boston point blank period❗️
And one of the best songs ever made in hiphop 💯
Boston hip hop is so amazing. I really love the song Home by The Kreators. I think that track says it all. RIP Guru
12:12 If you wanna be on, take this most infamous Gangstarr Preemo quote, lol.
I love the Preemo Krumb Snatcha collabs, "put up or shut up", "Closer 2 God" & "Make Em Pay". Make em pay is so HOLY & reminds me of Wizard's track on the Firm album "Untouchable". What went wrong with us, Hip Hop because Hip op is us as we're not seperated from this culture is that" Make em pay" wasnt played. You cant play golden era without giving people the vibe of the golden era. & da vibe of the golden era was we were immeresed in Beat bumpin dope poetry. ok?
Now we are killing each other with methods like British accent. You knowm say'ing. True we can't forget about Dre, But it reminds me of D-Flow of the Ghetton Dwellas "Must have forgot."
Ey yo, I need a wife yo. Can you send me some money so I can meet you guys & you give me a wife. I can't take it no more. Peace
Hip hop classic real story telling 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This beat is so emotional, it really goes to your core
I heard this on a mix show 88.9 Morgan state radio and when I heard this I recorded the song off the radio and played the HELL out it
I'm a big fan of your beats, Premo... keep the episodes coming..
I love Krumb Snatcha on Make Em Pay.....when I saw the name Krumb Snatcha I thought that's one the best names ever for an artist!!! ❤️
WTF is that Beat Bangn in the Background??Gotta be sum UNRELEASED Preem Special...🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was wondering the same
@@KwestTheVisionary watup@Kwest,You find da origin of that Beat yet..??Im still DIGGIN..🤔
@@boombap7579 still nothing bro
Watup@Kwest..I gave up tryn to find it..🤣
Man let me know if y'all find it, that shit is hot!
I was 16. Listening to Stretch and Bob and and heard this classic for the first time. I was just starting to DJ and was lucky enough to get all my vinyl from the original Fat Beats in NYC. A sleeper Preemo classic beat. I used to spin it for emcees to spit on for my tapes but for some reason nobody liked to rhyme on it. I'll never understand that but I'm not an emcee. Regardless, it was perfect for Krumb Snatcha and I'll always love this song. Never knew about the intro and chorus flip! That blew my mind. Love you, Preem! Love this show so much. For the headz!
That Fat Beats store was an institution. I remember that they would put vinyl up on the ceiling etc. Were you ever there for in store appearance by any of the Lyricist Lounge people?
@@miroslavadobrilovic1881 no doubt! The only in store performance I saw was the one Common Sense did in 97 at the second location. It was dope though! It's on RUclips
#DJPREMIER

Loved this track back in the day! Was definitely a good idea to switch up the arrangement.
Lawtown representing.
Salute to the 💾 Tuesday!
Yo that moment of truth was fire man.
Krumb always reminded me of Big Noyd
So nobody is gonna talk about the dope beat playing in the background huh?
Shout out to Nottz for "W.O.L.V.E.S."
Late 80s early 90s was the golden era really
If u ever feel like Hip Hop is dying, listen to Preemo.
Thinner than a PopTart
Bringing heat
Hitting like a Pop chart.
Drop Darts like Mics
I don’t need no more.
Another Classic Episode for another Banger. Closer to God is an epic beat. Krumbsnatcha came with it just like he did on Make Em Pay. Killed it. I’m vibing to that beat Preemo is playing in the background what is that from that is Fyah 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Was wondering the same thing, what’s that beat in the background lol?
