  • In this 28 August 23 excursion to a public MDC pond in Cooper County, MO, the water level was low but the fish were biting. Although no large bass or crappie showed up, a goodly number of Bluegill were allured with a variety of colors on the Z-Man Micro Finesse Shad FryZ.
A Z-Man TRD HogZ Mod nicknamed the PigletZ also caught a nice 21 inch channel catfish and a Bear Paws Garden Worm caught another 20 inch cat.
The cooler weather was very nice considering the very hot stretch we experienced for most of the month.
Rudie Tootie - PTA (Papillon Trip Advisor) advised (correctly) that the fish were likely to be abiding off-shore in and near submerged trees in 10-15 feet of water.
    Good Job, Rudie!
Sparky gets his normal dose of "Come Duel" besmirk.
    Enjoy the show!

Thanks, Virgillio. Couldn't agree more about finesse or micro finesse in many situations. It works very well in most of the small waters that I fish. I'm glad you enjoyed the show and thank you as always for your kind comments. Have a wonderful week, Don

Late August and a cooler day to fish at our old favorite pond! Lots of colorful shad lures. Those bluegill were really biting and a great fishing day. A catfish?? I can’t remember us catching one in that pond and a whopper, then another good fight…good grief big kitty too. Oh well, fun to catch 😂. Can’t believe the bluegill day, funny pictures😅.

Thanks, Bill and yes the brief 5 day respite from the heat and humidity was very nice. Unfortunately we have another high pressure dome in the Midwest and temps are back in the 90s for a while. The drought continues as well. Fortunately there's some nearby places to wet a line even though this is generally lockjaw time. Hope all's well with you and your family. Best wishes, Don

Glad to be the 1st here Don. I absolutely love that shad fryz. All great catches. Oh and my round float tube just isn't as comfy as I'd like so I'll be making another investment for one like yours.

Thank you, PFF, and it's good to hear from you. I first discovered the trove of bluegill in this pond several years ago when I was using 2.5" Slim SwimZ. It was at full pool, and there was a lot of surface feeding going on, so I threw the lure out in the middle of nowhere, and BG, bass, and crappie were seemingly everywhere. In subsequent excursions, I brought my fish finder and discovered the submerged trees were why the fish were there. I still use my smaller Nevada U-tube for "minimalist" types of trips but I think you will love a Classic Accessories Cumberland tube. For optimun paddling efficiency, be sure to adjust the seat-back straps (and tie off so they don't slip) to where you sit upright like in a chair and don't lean back. All the best, Don
