- This is part 2 of the December, cold water, strip pit fishing adventure and features Micro Finesse Z-Man Shad FryZ in Coconut Ice Glow color.
The Shad FryZ were fished on a 7-ft, light action spinning outfit using a medium retrieve (with occasional twitches) and brought a surprisingly good number of bass as well as bluegill to hand in the cold water.
Rudie Tootie makes a cameo appearance and shows off his Santa beard.
Part 3, featuring the Z-Man Micro TRD, will be released shortly.
Enjoy the show! Спорт
Great stuff this morning Don! I cannot get over how much color all of those fish had for this time of year, they all could have been fish models! Rudie Tootie is always a welcomed addition, he is a tremendous specimen and cute as a button. Looking forward to part 3 of the Strip Pit series. Hope this finds you and your family well.
Thanks, Tony. I really appreciate your kind comments and love the colors of the fish too. In muddy, cold water they would be silver. Rudie Tootie just turned 3 and is a smart, fun, affectionate and intelligent boy. He loves people and showing off his tricks. One more Micro TRD section of this video to go. It was a great day. Have a blessed week, Don
Great show buddy. Love your commentary. The water has a little stain and a lot of cold 😂😂
Thanks Gabe; much appreciated. No electronics are necessary for a strip pit/aquarium that you can cast across almost from bank to bank. Lots of fun and only 33 miles from my house now! I saw where you were holding up that huge striper...bet you would never want to catch something like that on finesse gear or this BFS stuff many are talking about 😁😁. Mr. Winter arrives with a serious attitude next Wed and I think we will be iced out for some time. All the best to you and your family and Finley this holiday season. Don
Hey Don, Part 2 was just as exciting as Part 1❤️! those Coconut Shad FryZ lures sure were successful in this part of the pit!! Loved hearing the “sing” of a big chunky fish!! Next year spells super success for more fish fry’s. Thanks for a great show. RTR❤️. Lorraine
Thanks, Sis, and I bet you're starting to understand why I lacked the words to adequatly describe the SP extravaganza! It was a very memorable experience. I had no ide ahead of time that the fish would be so active. If the pit fills up over the winter and we get the chance to slide into it next spring it should be as good or better! Xxxooo RTR Don
another excellent video that is enjoyed greetings blessings and happy holidays.
Thanks very much Virgillio. One more segment to go and this trip will be tied up in a Christmas bow! Have a blessed week. Don
Nice!
Thanks so much Derrick and glad you enjoyed the show. All the best, Don
Don, great video. Keep rockin' those ZMan micros, they do a great job with finicky or pressured fish. Have a great week.
Thanks Dennis. Very glad you enjoyed the show and WILL DO on the Micro Finesse lures! This strip pit is basically impossible to bank fish so it receives a lot less pressure. The effort it takes to fish the darn thing is one of the reasons why it has been my favorite, albeit remote, place since we moved to Springfield in 2000. Now that I'm 33 miles away, it's like Christmas. There's other spots I'll hit this spring including the 380 ac city lake 10 minutes away. Have a wonderful week, Don
Those Zman Shad FryZ are certainly a HotZ TotZ lure.
Thanks, John. Agree 100%. There's quite a few RUclipsrs posting Shad FryZ vids...they are definitely HotZ TotZ! Have a blessed week, Don
I've caught an awful lot of fish on a 2" - 3" shad swim bait over the years. It is one of my go-to favorites on ponds and smaller lakes. Looks like fun.
I'm with you, Jeff. One of the best producing little swimmers in these parts for many years (and for all species) has been either 2.5 or 3" Slim SwimZ. These new Micro Finesse lures continue to surprise me. Helps to be fishing in an aquarium too hahaha 😆 best wishes, Don
I've used the BP squirming shad esp. in the green pumpkin/pearl color (2" & 3"). Caught everything from small bluegill to a 5lb. bass on it. With that product, catchin falls off with their other choices of colors. That's why I like some of the Zman stuff.
You caught some chunky monkey size bass and bluegill. Rudie always chilling.
Thanks Wayn, much appreciated. Those tiny Shad FryZ really worked well in the strip pit. It was like a box of chocolates...I never knew what I was going to get. Interestingly, the big Green Sunfish were nowhere to be found so I'll have to try for them next April. Rudie Tootie is typically chilling less than three feet away hahaha. Spoiled! Best wishes and Merry Christmas. Don
Hey like your video. Thank You 😊
Thanks so much, James and glad you enjoyed the show. You might like part 1 (Tiny TicklerZ) and part 3 (micro TRD) as well. Best wishes, Don
P.S. Santa Rudie “Toots” is such a good boy!😘
Ha. Yes Sis, RT is something else. Santa would envy his mane and chest hair...not to mention his "wings"! Cutsey Wootsey DD! Xxxooo Don
What size finesse jig head do you use? Great videos. What breed is Rudi tootie
Thanks David and happy you liked the show.
The Micro Finesse jigheads from Z-Man work really well with the line of Micro Finesse lures; no surprise here.
For the Shad FryZ a 1/15 oz (#4 hook) is good because it is a moving bait. For the Micro TRDs and Tiny TicklerZ, a 1/20 oz is very good. I didn't order any 1/10 oz heads yet. Also I haven't used the 1/30th oz heads - yet. They are really Tiny but I think they will work well with something like a Bear Paws Garden Worm 🪱 this spring. Rudie Tootie is a Papillon, so named for the ears. Papillion means butterfly 🦋 in French. He's 3 now and a wonderful boy. Best wishes, Don
Good morning ! You would be curious about the equipment to special when it come to money and things don’t work that we buy please. Thank you and you have a bless day RUclipsr🙏
Do you still have to billy goat down to the pit?
Ben, hahaha, you are remembering the slip-n-slide down to the pit that I showed in some older stip pit videos....
Yes, that's still the best/only way to descend. It isn't too bad in dry weather but was slippery as snot on this (and the last upcoming trip 5 days later). Since I'm an old goat anyway, 🐐 😅 I could handle it! Best wishes, Don
Hello ! What the name and size of that fishing line and what the name and size of that jig head and what the name and size of that spinning rod and spinning reel that you are using in this RUclips video . Please reply a comment back to me with all my questions answer back from you. May the lord bless you and your family and your RUclips page.🙏🙏
Timothy, I've noticed that you are very curious about the equipment I'm using and have asked the same questions several times. Let me start by saying that most of today's reasonably priced (light or ultra light) equipment is suitable for fishing these small micro finesse lures. Having said that:
Rod - 7 ft light, fast tip Carrot Stix Wild (Bass Pro)
Reel- Piscifun Flame 100 size - Amazon
Jighead - Z-man micro finesse shroomz 1/20 oz (Z-man website)
Line - 8 lb Mr Crappie Hi-Vis mono; 8 lb Berkeley Vanish fluoro leader (Amazon).
Z-Man Z-Man Zman all the way Hey Don hope all is well in your direction and those pups also. Can’t forget the Misses 👋 stay on them Finesse I hope to soon add BFS to my arsenal 🫡
Let's go north! 👽
Thanks Clarence. I'll confess that I've really enjoyed using many of the Micro Finesse lures Z-man came out with this year. The three in this vid series are my favorites and I hope to get a few more colors of them....as soon as they aren't sold out. Oh, I will be using a new BFS (modified) outfit..
Probably after ice out. Don't look for me to use 2 or 4 lb line hahaha. Best wishes for you and your family. Don
