Wait. I had to go back and see what you were talking about. It didn't even register in my brain that he chopped that whole thing in half with his sword while we were watching. What I thought happened was that he redirected Don Kreig's large bullets and that's what destroyed the ship

There's a slight mistake in ep 24 Mihawk isn't the "strongest man in the world" just "the strongest swordsman"
Well even that is not a "just" 😅
These early scenes hit differently at this point (waiting for the next manga chapter rn). They're somehow more powerful.

About the Mihawk Vs Zoro fight:
To me, it has the best one liners in the whole series:
"My ambition", "I don't hunt rabbits with a cannon", "What do you carry on your shoulders?", "If I withdraw even by one step...", "State your name", "Scars on the back...", "Don't live so hastily", "My name is Dracule Mihawk. Learn about yourself, learn about the world, and become strong. No matter how many years it takes, I will hold this seat of the strongest and wait for you. Come and surpass me, Roronoa Zoro!"
This fight means so much to Zoro, but it means a great deal to Mihawk too.
It has been many years since he achieved his title, years of slowly losing interest in life, without a worthy opponent to challenge him or an equal to be his rival (we will get back to this last point later). As we find out both for this introduction and later as we see more of him, Mihawk is a simple man with simple needs and desires. He only wants his piece of mind and something to strive for.
Zoro in this scene gave Mihawk purpose again: He will keep being the best and wait for Zoro to catch up to him. At last, a worthy opponent will arise to take the title of "best swordsman" away from him.
I also absolutely love the impact Luffy had on Zoro.
Until now, Zoro carried only his and Kuina's dream on his shoulders. But now he carries Luffy's too; and he acknowledges this by thinking of him while not stepping back while his heart is pierced and with calling him Pirate King at the end.
As time goes by and more people are added to the crew, we will see how Zoro will (maybe unconsciously) carry the others' dreams on his shoulders too.
A lone wolf turned into a protector, Zoro's character's journey is so good, and unfortunately so underappreciated in the fandom 😔
One of my favorite lines is “Scars on the back are a swordsman’s greatest shame” gives me chills even after all these years later. Thanks for all the info as always Evelyn!! Love knowing more about Mihawk and Zoro really has changed little by little now that I think about it!
There is actually a re-animated version already, its in a special episode and has more action and choreography
