Luffy is willing and unashamed to ask Robin for more information about things he's confused by or ignorant of, and Robin is happy to explain things to Luffy, simplifying her explanations without mocking Luffy. It's very wholesome. :)

By kicking him away 3. The Navy doesn't want to be the enemy of tough people who have worked for the Navy a lot. Having Grap here will help train a lot of new sailors.

So by estimation, it's even safe to assume 6-7 months have passed since the start of journey. And remaining 4 or so months is spent from thriller bark to sabaody and after which reasonably the pace is quickened coz of the war saga.
