    You made this look so incredibly easy. Gives me hope!☺ And thanks for giving me the idea of creating my own butcher block instead of spending $300+ on one.

    I really like the way this looks, Marie! The split shelving is a great use of tons of space!

      Thanks Bruce. I can easily fit 32 pairs of shoes on the open shelves and still be "photograph-able" but lots more if no one's looking ;)

    Very ingenious design and well built. Love the small barn doors and the way you built the hardware for them.

    Very nice island, Marie. It’s sooo great to see your channel coming along so nicely. You are doing a tremendous job. As always your explanations are clear and thorough. Thanks for all that you do and share with your viewers.

      Thanks I appreciate it! This one was quite the lengthy build, but so happy with the result.

    On those barn door sides, you should pop them off, and pop in a few magnets below each roller, on the door and on the cabinet.. that way when you push it to the center it will kinda snap into position.. the magnets dont even need to touch, just be near eachother and they will pull the door into the closed position and add a nice tactile feel.. when you open and close it will have a very satisfying floaty snap kind of feel.
    I've made a similar door before, and my girlfriend at the time suggested it and it was awesome. In a hurry I could just grab a game, push the door back and it would float across, and then just magically stop in place with no discernible snap or click... it seemed like magic. Much worth the effort.
    Hope this helps.
    If it wasn't clear what I meant, just ask. I'd be glad to clarify, or even send a drawing or something.

    What a great idea. I may have to build this with some slight modifications for boxes to fit in for folded clothes and a side left open for a little chair so the top doubles as a desk for my daughter's room. Maybe some casters but I love this idea. Thanks for sharing.

    Nice! It could even be a kitchen island if you make adjustments to make it taller. I like how you gave credit where it's due to the Shanty sisters. I love their channel too! Really cool project. Thanks for sharing!

      For sure, they put out great content, so credit was due! That's what's great about the DIY community, being able to borrow and adapt. Thanks!

      I only say this as I've seen other DIY RUclipsrs that have obviously "borrowed" an idea from someone else and fully take on the credit with not even a say or comment that it came from "an idea" or "inspiration" from another RUclipsr or whomever. Keep the awesome builds and videos coming 😊.

      DIY Montreal What size are you planning to make them may I ask?

  •  4 года назад

    Hello👋! Usually the cuts from the lumber store are too rough with splinters.
    Did you have to re cut the plywood with a nicer saw? Or just sanding

    Any suggestions for attaching the countertop without using the clips? I don’t have a router and haven’t been able to convince myself I need one.

    • @DIYMontreal
      @DIYMontreal  4 года назад

      You can pre-cut a groove on each panel at the top (before assembly) using the table saw.
      Otherwise, there are clips that look like an 8 that don't require the slot.

    The island is great. What do you mean by "walk in" in your video title and description?

    • @DIYMontreal
      @DIYMontreal  6 лет назад +1

      I'm referring to a walk in closet. Although in my house it's not really a closet... just a room I dedicated to clothes & shoes.

    • @26tp
      @26tp 6 лет назад +1

      I was expecting the island to open up to become a walk in by itself.

    You should put casters on the bottom!!!

    • @DIYMontreal

      Sure, that could work! I don’t personally have the need to move it, but it would help if you have limited space.

    hi there just a little pro tip dont ever wipe glue you are better off using a scraper or chisel out the glue beads after its dry it will be much easier to sand the excess glue afterward..
    i saw your face while buying some stuff at lee valley today keep up the good work. I run a wood working business call échardes et copeaux in mtl hit me with a little follow if u want on instagram im going to keep on looking at your stuff if you ever need tips or help hit me up !! good job

    • @DIYMontreal
      @DIYMontreal  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the tip. I have come to realise that it's better to scrape when you plan to stain the wood but I still prefer wiping of the glue when the piece will be painted. Just personal preference I guess!
