I've lurked Star Citizen development for many many years, but never pledged. After seeing some recent tech demos, I got really excited about playing. Welcome to the Verse! I’ve been here 10 years and I’ve never been more excited. It finally had something for you and I believe it will have something for everyone eventually.
@@saosaoldian6742 thx! this moment must feel amazing for you, after enjoying SC for so long. I love space games. Honestly love that the Syulen sits like the first attempts at VTOL craft humans made, where we tried to have jets land vertically to allow for more to fit on aircraft carriers before scrapping the entire idea.
On my way to NB spaceport to fly the Syulen for the first time, the train went off the tracks and when it snapped back I got left behind on the tracks. Luckily I saw the next train coming at me at full speed so I casually jumped back in clipping through the windshield, just another day in the ’verse 😂

Right! I saw some concerns that its not an easy ship to fly so will turn people off, glad to see that I'm not alone in finding it a steep but short learning curve! The atmosphere of the interiors nails it in every sense of the word. It feels special to live in for sure. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and your comment means a ton!

In first person, when you land look up. Watch your horizontal guide lines with the degrees of pitch in the front of your cockpit. As you adjust from facing the front, to pitching up when landing vertically, when the guidelines rotate once you are now vertical. Now you can backwards thrust and land. Works every time. Also, Size 3 Ballistic cannons, with limiters off and decoupled will make it a challenge for people trying to take you down.
I melted my starter Cutter and bought the gatac syulen package with the intention of upgrading and continuing with LTI, but after a few flights I'm not able to part with this ship hahaha
I'm not sure if it's the best starter, but it's def my favorite, the interior and exterior is so awesome, plus its fun to fly, the cockpit is amazing, and it's a pretty ok fighter, my buddy and I did an ert in a pair of them, and they did surprisingly well, this will be my new daily driver, I got one with store credit just to check it out, and I like it so much I decided to keep it
For anyone looking to better park the Syulen, go into options>keybinds>advanced>vehicles -seats and operator>look behind. It's good to have in many situations but in the case of the Syulen, it's literally a backup camera..
Something to add with the astonishing acceleration of this ship, is you WILL blackout when accelerating with afterburners when flying horizontally, especially in gravity wells and or atomospheres.
love the ship, the cargo grid system is a bit of a let down as it only will hold a 1 scu box and nothing smaller, but maybe someday CIG will give us a gatac hover bike that folds up and fits into one of the cargo racks XD
Also worthy of mention, and what pushed me over the edge, is the excellent internal elevator of the Syulen. It can skip the living quarters and go straight from top floor to exit, making it reasonably fast to get in and out.
I got one, and I already have lots of ships, but it's inexpensive, exotic, and offers a unique experience, so it was an insta-buy. What a great start to IAE! 🚀😝
i traded my medical pisces for this since i also have a corsair and honestly having a ton of fun with it the landing does take some getting used to though and i imagine given more time ill be able to comfortably land it without needing to go into third person all the time
The key to landing it for me was to go to the landing spot, then use the pitch indicator to look directly at 90, then go backwards to land. I'm glad you e enjoying it! It's such a cool ship
Tested and confirmed, landing configuration does affect performance boss. Not by massive margins and it's most noticable in the transition, with gear out you seem to get less forward and retro thruster resolution in exchange for a bit more lateral resolution.
One of the problems the Syulen has is that planetside hangars (the horizontal ones) aren't made for the Syulen while its landing gear is retracted. Space Station hangars are slightly more forgiving.
I think the other starters are more practical (C8X, Cutter, Avenger, etc.) and probably "better" in that sense; however, this has a real uniqueness and cool-factor that cannot be ignored! That counts for something, it gives the ship longevity to keep it in the hangar long-term. I'm not an alien ship kind of guy, but I really like this and I'll probably buy one in-game in the future. I had a lot of fun with the rental.
The Syulen does rely strongly on its cool factor. Imo you do get a good bit more utility out of the Nomad, with a greater price of course. This does trade blows with the Titan though imo. Thank you for the comment :)
I am VERY happy I just won one, I received 3rd place for the Alien Week Recipe Contest, I was hoping for 3rd just because of this ship, (the other prizes were Alien Fighters which I definitely are NOT into). The Contest results are on my YT!
Ngl, this thing is way easier than it seems to slide into tight and uneneven landing positions. At first glance I thought the same thing in relation to landing next to wrecks, I was real surprised with the types of places I was able to put this down at.
is the description correct on the video? "We break down the brand new Crusader Industries Spirit A1, to see how it stands as a competitor to the A2, solo bomber, and daily driver."
I got one as well and I think this will be my new daily driver whenever I want to fly a small ship. Love the design and the unique vertical layout of the interior. It's almost like a small alien house when landed. I think the size is not that much of a problem for bunker missions. If you want to bring a ground vehicle, you will either fly a Nomad or a medium ship. But if you want to use the terrain as cover, a few metres in height don't make that much of a difference imo. Another interesting fact is that the VK-00 is the faster drive for jumps over 38 Mkm. If you mostly jump lower distances than that, then the Spectre is actually faster, because it accelerates faster. Overall, I really liked your presentation and the calm way of talking about the ship, great video!
9:39 I can't help but think they've allocated all resources into designing ships, and then .. well.. look at that landscape. it falls behind soooo bad Ships: 10/10 Natural enviroments: 4/10
"This is CiG at the very best" .... HAHAAAA Yeah rright! They have to do a lot better, especially it would be great if they'd start to use sense when designing ships as there are so many issues with ships that are due to design flaws.
Really not sold on this ship. The SCM speed is just low-average, underperforming heavy fighters. The fact that in the Q&A they admitted it fits in no existing ship's landing bay was also pretty disappointing. Also not sure you want to be a hulking monolith with 2 small shields strapped to you. These things are gonna get instantly wrecked in any sort of PvP.
Definitely get your perspective, I suppose i treat starter ships very differently than most. I look at this as a new players road to fall in love with the experience of the sandbox, which I think the Syulen does in spades. You're totally right thay this would get destroyed in any PvP, but I suppose a lot of the starters would as well
Heavy disagree that it is the "Best" premium starter. Nomad has much better systems for a premium starter. The Syulen only has better scm speed by 20 m/s, more missiles, and sluggish light-fighter manuverability. What does it give up for this slightly better fighting stance? The Nomad has 1 more shield gen and cooler than the syulen, has fuel intakes (which will be important in larger systems like Pyro), and has 24 SCU + a tractor beam. IMO, this ship is cool to look at, but once the luster wears off it'll just be a taxi
Totally fair. I'm usually right there with you about these kind of tradeoffs, but I do think the feel of a starter ship specifically makes a huge difference to a new players experience. Not that they can't get anything from a Nomad, but this ship does speak to me especially :) maybe it's just because I started with a 100i haha
@@RobinHartJones no it doesn't, that entry on the technical overview is left blank, if you look at other ships, if they have scoops, it lists the size and type.
This ship is terrible. If you park it on a slight angle you can't use the stairs or get in the opening. Its as big as a house, so ass for dog fighting. It is ugly as crap. Has no utility. Is super cramped and does nothing special that other ships around the same price don't do better. On top of all that it takes 10 times longer to land so if you are ever in a hard fight like at jump town or in pyro you are 100% dead meat before you even get landed.
its not a fighter ship, I agree. But is fun for exploration, some deliveroo and combat initiation as you have to pay attention to manouverability, and not trusting too much on shields and fire power..:).
