really nice review. we have one alredy but i still love watching reviews of it. ours is a GL63 AMG ,so the fuel consumption is terrible....

Nope. Gl 63 is more sporty and it spounds much nicer. Also different engine. So glad 63 is better for sporty ppl....but gl500 will also do the job.

You have to admit Mercedes did a brilliant job with the gl , and i think that you should consider the size of that thing, of course they would of give to it a big engine, ok that might be not so good for fuel economy but the car has to cover everything up and that's why they should do it.But you guys did a great review either
Thanks a lot for your comment. I do always consider weight and size of cars when talking about fuel consumption, otherwise it wouldn't be fair. At the same time I think how great big RS are with powerful Diesel engines with tons of torque.

Well, i didn't like your review because you kept mentioning fuel economy over and over. What do you expect when the car is huge, heavy and powerful?
Thank you for your feedback. I do expect that car manufacturers try to do their best to reach the advertised fuel consumption figures in real life not just on a ideal test run on a dyno (but that applies to all manufacturers). At the same time, I believe weight and size cannot be an excuse for high(er) fuel consumption these days, in the Middle East it doesn't matter as much, but back in Europe or in the US fuel isn't cheap. And even if someone can afford a big and expensive car it can still be argued that a better fuel consumption is a comfort feature as you don't have to refill your car as often and waste time at the gas station. Thank you.

very nice ride but the most of all that I like about this vehicle is the room because I am a large guy myself and that will fit me well. I wish gas mileage could be at least 20 city 26 Highway.
It's very comfortable and easily fits larger people with no problem whatsoever.

Hello, just wanted to know how is exterior sounds isolation? Is it a quite SUV?
It's good, but you need to take it easy with the acceleration. The engine can be heard when accelerating hard, but when cruising on the highway it's quiet.

2016 GL500 ramadan offer is AED 299,000. Is it right time to invest. As you know there is model change in 2017 and its already available.

No Diesel in the UAE really, only very few Pickup trucks can be bought as Diesel. Shame, Diesel would be amazing to have here, fewer refills per months at the gas station would be amazing.
correction, the car may be Germany, but its built in America for US market
psztyber yep it's actually "too big" for Germans hence not many people buy it there... a GLC or GLE is preferred
It's not about being too big, it's more about being more costly than the competition from Japan/ Korea for this size of car. Or for that matter, compare this car to the Ford Expedition I reviewed as well. Same size car but for a different price, though at the same time the materials used are completely different...
I believe it is rather a price sensitivty issue.
Apparently Mercedes-Benz GL models has a problem with the GPS navigation system, it shows that you're on the highway when you're on the service road or you're on the service road when you're on the highway, and Mercedes USA is telling us it's normal because all GLs are doing it and that makes it OK, so don't buy that GPS navigation option. We created a You Tube videos just to prove that it's not normal that your navigation system telling you to turn on the street when you're on the highway. We test drove a brand new 2017 GLS today and it did a same thing. You better off buying portable GPS which you can see from the videos, works perfectly.

Excellent car, but the third raw is a bit squeezed. I wish it had the possibility to move the thirs row a bit backwards when there is no luggage .
I own this car, its an upgrade of the previous model x164 which has a lot of mechanical issues especially airmatic system but still it has the mercedes taste with amercian truck experience...to be honest its little noisy.

Hey auto review I just had a quick question about the power entry system if you have more than one car seat in this car how does that work?Does the car come with a feature where the seats can slide up for exit of rear passengers ? I love your review btw 🙌very informative
I think you mean the feature that is found in most American upscale cars. I am not sure if you can configure the seats accordingly, I have not checked but without guarantee I would reckon that Mercedes might have this feature as I know they have it in the new S-Class.

Good car for 4 kids
171TITO 4 kids in booster seats or 5 kids if they can sit already without those. A family car for 7 people (parents + 5 kids) with no space problem.
I understand you're disappointed with the fuel economy, but Mercedes did create the 450 and the 350 BlueTec.
Here in the UAE Mercedes is only selling 3 petrol engine, the GL400, the GL500 and the GL63 AMG. We do not have the other European or American spec engine options.

I haven’t been able to test it off-road, but I wouldn’t really go off-roading with it. It’s made for the urban jungle called city and lot for dunes and trails.

great review, any thoughts on why anyone should choose this over the GL430 diesel is mpg is the only drawback?
+christian macri depending on your country I would recommend the Diesel, in the UAE they don't offer Diesel and petrol is cheap that's why a V8 is no problem.

Well I guess it depends your age, where you live, how long you are already driving and a million other factors that only you can als your insurance!

at 0:39 the chart says 409 p: but in Italy the gl500 has 435 CV/321.9 kW: so the fuel consumption is justified.
Many cars here are sold with less power than in Europe or the US due to the heat and humidity, basically the rougher environment. In addition to less power the service intervals are shorter in the Middle East. While back in Europe today service intervals of 30.000-50.000km or 1 year are standard here in Dubai for example manufacturers require servicing cars anything from every 5.000km to 15.000km or 3-6 months.

whats different between GL 450 AND GL500 AND GL550??
The GL-500 is the sporty one in the 500's 450 is regular 160 and is gl 550 but in GL list the GL63 Is very fast
