Having that happen in the film would have actually been funny, instead of the sanitized safe mess we got.

About the fish king guy and the helmet, is no one else noticing that HIS GILLS ARE ON HIS CHEST AND NOT ON HIS HEAD? THE HELMET WOULD DO NOTHING TO STOP HIM FROM BREATHING??

I'm stubborn about a lot of things, and sometimes I fail to correct myself when I'm wrong, but this would be a silly thing to double down on.
@@All4Tanuki They don't swallow the water, but yeah. Funnily enough, the helmet would have probably killed him too fast. With every breath he would be evacuating the water from the helmet (which makes the pumping of air into it redundant) but also as he breaths he would have to pull against a vacuum making it impossible to breathe. Maybe the pump was installed into the helmet to allow the fish king to take breaths of water from the helmet without pulling against a vacuum, ie so air can be pumped in as the water is evacuated... Either way it is a poorly though out visual gag, which isn't even all that funny.
Haven't even watched to the end but I know those shark man abs are going to increase the score by at least 2 points

I assumed the explosive entrance was a running gag in the first movie. Half the time it would happen right next to a perfectly functional door.
I'm really liking the moments when adam cracks and laughs at his own jokes, like during the baby supremacy bit. Makes the roasting more fun when you have a sense of him having fun too.
It’s kind’ve poetic, after a decade of production chaos, for the DCEU to fizzle out in an unremarkable box office flop. Much like the action in the movies, the arc of the DCEU is all fire and fury, signifying nothing.

So much happened with this little franchise for the past decade. It started off as Zack Snyder’s thing, then they lost faith in him and sabotaged it, then it was four or five years of random solo movies trying to not only figure out what stuck to the wall but also trying to internally soft reboot itself countless times. Then it became The Rocks thing for a year until Black Adam bombed and his failed cover up of that. Now it’s James Gunn’s thing, and let’s not forget the many various behind the scenes drama with certain directors, executives and the many crimes that were committed by certain actors as well. It’s normal to feel nothing after watching Aquaman 2. Not feeling good or bad, just nothing.
Regardless of what people think of Joker and The Batman (I think Joker was okay and adored The Batman) it really helped prove a basic fact that audiences will gravitate towards movies you don’t have to do homework for to understand
Like maybe… you shouldn’t keep jumping at this connected universe thing and just make, good stand alone movies first and maybe then try connecting them if you want to?

the animation of that blue fish guy was actually pretty cool. it has a nice sense of exaggeration that you don't really see outside of animated movies
The Aquaman films and The Rise of Skywalker fit into a niche genre of trying to cram 3 movies into 1-- Against all odds Aquaman managed to do it twice, and in a semi-functional way

This movie literally ended with them ripping off the ending from Iron Man. Truly an appropriate way to end this decade long trek of movies and one tv show that started because WB’s main goal was to catch up to the MCU when it was at its most popular. To quote Cody from PointlessHub, “if there’s one thing we’ve learned from this past decade, it’s that making a Cinematic Universe is actually hard as hell. Who’s really left?” Good luck James Gunn, you’re gonna need it.
Even if Gunn is only there for reasons of sunk cost fallacy, it's at least conceivable that he could succeed on some level, which is an improvement.

I will say I like that these DCU movies make me appreciate the Justice League cartoon from the early 2000’s even Aquaman was decent in that show, he cut off his hand to save his son and had a hook hand the majority of the shows run if I remember right

The amount of set pieces that are introduced, and then immediately forgot about, is wild to me. Like the desert prison ran by monster beings for some reason, in the Sahara* desert. Like those set pieces, really don’t matter.

It’s so fitting that the last second ending of the entire DCEU is a Marvel reference, because the entire DCEU was just trying to be the MCU rather than be itself.

just from looking at the clips shown, if this wasn’t an aquaman movie and just an animated sci-fi/fantasy romp i think it would’ve been a lot more interesting. it would’ve also given the art direction more room to lean into artifice and not have to look believably realistic. there’s a lot of great character animation on display, would love to see an original ip in this kind of style
I will say the set design, costumes, creature design, and animation all look sort of interesting. Like they're the ones that had their shit together but only them.
Was anyone else laughing their ass of at the scene where they blow up manta's submarine with whales after aquaman said in the scene prior; "we can't shoot at the submarine, they might have my baby on board"
For me it all kind of rolled off of me until the last 10 minutes of the movie where I actually just started cry laughing until the credits rolled. All the garbage this movie spilled hit me at once.
I gotta watch this movie now.. just for the lolz

Feel like that kinda self reference with the wall explosion humor works a lot more if it was a video game, which this felt like. A game rushed out of its development and nuance to like a few hours at best.
Like in Metal Gear Rising, Raiden almost gets his jaw destroyed in several scenes. But in the final fight with Armstrong, he successfully dodges an unguarded uppercut to the chin, a classic knockout move.
He has a cocky chuckle and strokes it since he's aware of the gag. Only for him to get sucker punched and he falls face-first, grinding against the floor like a motorcycle accident.
Ironically surviving it because it's mostly on his chin again where you see it's almost molten when he stands up.
Maybe their bodies were so cold that we couldn't see their breath.
Given what we know about Amber Heard and bodily functions, baby pee is not the worst thing she could have done in that instance.
Me personally, I would’ve preferred the Aquaman 2 from the _Entourage_ universe, starring Jake Gyllenhall and directed by Michael Bay.

I remember many DC fans, particularly, the (snarky) comics fans, were almost _praying to whatever deity heard them_ in the hopes that Aquababy gets fucking murdered on screen.
I knew it wasn't gonna happen, DC wouldn't do that, (in a film/TV show anyways; comics and games are A-OK!) but it felt kinda disappointing. Probably because the DCEU did absolutely nothing to adapt the comics, really, other than the... (sighs) ...New 52.

So the note about the sibling thing comes from the fact that Temuera Morrison had a sister in real life named Taini Morrison she was Kapa Haka performer, but she passed away in 2009
So I think the film is alluding to that, I know that sometimes Tem adds aspects of his culture and life into the projects he works with, but for the film I can see how those who might know will appreciate it but for the bigger whole not a lot of people know about his life so I agree this was odd choice to add if the film wasn't about siblings?

It feels like things can't even suck in fun or interesting ways anymore. Its either sucking void of boredom where the studio is too technically competent to not fuck up egregiously but is also looking to make the safest, boringest decision at every turn or its some kind of yawning hellhole comprising every real-world nightmare of industry and culture, reminding us all that things suck for real
Thinking about the multiple, possibly dozens of people working on the product placement who saw that clip of aquaman having his entire fridge be Guiness with a couple of baby bottles and thought "This is normal. This is great. No weird implications here."

This movie once again reminded me why Japan's manga & anime is more popular than many American entertainment industries today.
