    The intercooler, plug the holes and pressure test it with compressed air in the shop. Use a tire valve to add air. This will test your welds and keep you from having down time at the track.

      Good idea for sure but also fill it with water first because ideally you want to charge it above the boost you’ll expect to see and of it explodes with only air it’s basically a bomb

      @@travisschulz6342 Good point! Sometimes water doesn't squirt. I was thinking of 30 PSI and dunk it in a tank of water. Someone in Texas proved the bomb part with his 4x4 Cuda.

    amazing building all that for first day with a tig 😎when you are new to aluminum try less torch angle so you aren't putting too much heat ahead of where you are welding so like 90 degree to work. once stuff gets a little thicker and bigger like first welding pieces that are cold try waving propane or map gas torch over it for couple of seconds to preheat it then it takes less initial heat from the torch into that one spot to get the puddle started. if you don't have a torch switch, try putting the machine on the switch setting so the pedal acts like the on off switch and see how you like that without having to pump the pedal. another tip if you hand is shakey try holding the torch around the neck like a pencil the is no real reason to hold it super far back. Also for the anodizing....the tig has whats called a "ac balance control cleaning action" this is the white mark you see around the weld you can adjust this and it will help remove the anodizing. If it is really problematic anodizing you can even try light no weld passes like wave torch over the edge of the tube and it will help clean the anodizing off

    Before welding on aluminum I always give it a good belt sand, a stainless brushing & an acetone wipe down with kimtech wipes. Depending on how clean the material is when I get it, I might start & end with an acetone wipe down to prevent oils and grime from making its way onto my sandpapers & brushes.

    Key to TIG is clean clean clean. Acetone in a squirt bottle and shop towel paper towels go a long way to cleanliness. Also get dedicated metal brushes for cleaning, dont want any steel contaminates on aluminum cleaning supplies. . Crap aluminum that's been oil soaked will never ever weld clean.... so happy you got a tig though... less splatter and the options are much bigger now.

    In drag racing intercoolers are more heatsinks than like a radiator. The aluminum is much cooler than the charge air so it cools it down and you won't heat soak it in a drag race. As an added option you can do an intercooler sprayer. NOS or CO2, it would drop temps even more by increasing the efficiency of the intercooler. Methanol injection in the pipe could be another option. Living in TN we have hot summers so fighting heat is always a biggy. I have buddy’s that run methanol in the charge pipe to keep temps down, on everyday driving options and if you don’t want to fork over for straight methanol you can use blue washer fluid.

    Tip for TIG welding the better you prep the material you are welding the better your welds are going to be and on the intercooler piping take some fine sand paper and scuff the part you are going to weld then take acetone and wipe it off really good before you weld it and if you have the pieces to do it with you should back purge the aluminum intercooler piping and you can always take aluminum foil to cover the ends with as long as you have the hose to back purge the pipe and of course the extra acetylene gas to use to back purge it and that will also help clean up your welds especially on aluminum

    • @keefespencer1173
      @keefespencer1173 Год назад

      The white around edges of your welds on the aluminum is called sugaring and if you back purge your welds it will get rid of that

    INTERCOOLER THEORY: The one question to ask is: What is the correlation of Presser Ratio (boost), to Density Ratio (Oxygen Molecules in a set Pressure Ratio?
    As there is an increase in PR there is also an increase in DR. But the problem is (OR SOLUTION!!), the increase is always at a different rate. Well, why?? Well, as PR increases, the OXYGEN MOLOCULES get hot. This is the math equation relation of temperature to Oxygen to set PR. But if you can decrease temperature a bit more, would gain an INCREASE the DR a bit more. So, this would increase the amount of Oxygen Molecules at the same PR. Well, .,. This would increase the amount of power AT THE SAME PR OF THE PREVIOUSLY DONE TIME, WHITHOUT SOLVING THE OXYGEN PROBLEM.
    In the past I would do calculations on selecting the correct size turbo to match said motor at max rpm and shift points are at. To find the correct amount of fueling at a set RPM, and at set known PR, with a known temperature. You have to know this equation. I was building my own turbo system for a JEEP 4.0, set at a .6 BAR and I didn't want to blow my motor up.
    YOUR DOING GREAT GUYS!!!!
