I'd say it's more like a child who is forced to choose between his mum and older brother. Siveth wants to protect them both, and while Lukas (a teen who is desperate and lonely) is more than happy that she changed her mind and he ACCEPTS her protection, Darius (an adult who learnt the hard way to fend for himself and full of resentment) DOES NOT ACCEPT it, because he was rejected by Siveth once. Darius HATES his bond with Siveth just like Lukas WANTS one with her. By paradox, as Lukas becomes less and less dependent from Siveth till the point of taking matters into his own hands, Darius gets closer and closer to Siveth and learns to trust and love her.
