Honestly for sure. How did he steal that many games for an Arizona team with that roster. So so so impressive to watch. I’ve been high on him since he was on Tampa. Usually picked him up or traded for him on my Chel fantasy teams lolol

Demko has been a .910% + guy for 4 seasons now, last season was a fluke year with an injury. The only other reason he didn’t play 50 games is because of Markstrom. He’s 6’5, moves unbelievably well, has top 3 technical skill in the league.

A cool way to do these rankings is to have each of them submit a list and then give each player a score or average ranking to create the cumulative list. You could score it like 1st - 10pts 2nd - 9pts …… 10th - 1pt This is to a total of 40pts. Just an idea to aid in the creation of the cumulative list
Idk if Swayman should be in the top 5, mainly because he and ulmark split games for the past few years, Saros should be in the top 5. I think it should go: 1. Shesterikin 2.Hellebyck 3. Bob 4. Demko 5. Saros 6. Vasy 7. Swayman 8. Sorokin 9. Otter 10. ulmark
this whole list, which is wild by the way, could be summed up by Jesse's statement at 13:00. They are getting caught up with numbers, which tell a lot but not near everything. As a goalie and when I watch, the technique of some goalies like Vasi is incredible. He pulls stuff off that seems inhuman. also all aboard the underrated Saros train...
Luca is actually wild. The canucks took the oilers to 7 and were top of the league for most of the year. Yet they don't have a top 5 goalie, nor do they have a top 25 skater outside of Hughes. How is he arguing swayman over demko when swayman has never had the load of a starter? Even with demko's injury's over the last 3 years. Swayman started 43 last year, Demko started 51. Year before 33 for Swayman, 32 for Demko. Year before that 39 for Swayman, Demko started 61. So Demko became a starter 4 years ago.. He missed like 5 games due to a concussion his first year, he had his first big injury in the coach swap year.. So has had 2 seasons starting 50+ games in his first 4 seasons.
Food for thought in the future in regards to Canadian goalies, watch out for Josh Ravensbergen on the Prince George Cougars. Kid out of North Vancouver took Ty Young's spot as a 16 year old and had an insane season in the dub. 2.46 GAA, .907 SV%, 6 Shutouts, 26-4-1 in 38 Games. Kid has size and makes some ridiculous saves, great instincts to boot. He might be the next great goalie coming out of BC.
Lindgren would make my list, the caps defence has been so hot and cold and you can't expect to save 40+ shots a night and win every game the fact he had a .911 considering and now the caps might have gone and tightened up there D Chuckie could be a power house
we have to remember the situation the Canucks were in in terms of their defensive core before last season. Demko carried that team on his back for a good while before they found success this past year. he's has many stretches of outstanding play, and a deserving vezina candidate after last season even despite injury
Sorokin plays an average season after putting up unreal numbers for 3 years by getting overworked by the worst coach I’ve ever seen, then under Roy plays through the rest of the season likely dealing with back issues. Roy knew he needed serious serious rest so he got limited minutes. Now we know confirmed the guy had back surgery once the season was over. To take the guy from 2-3 to 10-12 because of that is absolute bs
Absolutely saros slander. Last year was tough on him sure: but we were changing systems in RECORD time with a more offensive system which left him high and dry and he still often held his ground. His athleticism is incredible. And yes, his size is smaller which makes being on a mid team (yes weve been mid at best) and putting up his numbers and games INSANE. Have some respecc
UPL does not deserve to be on this list this year but it's nice to see a few people did shout him out. He puts together a full season that looks like what he did in the 2nd half of last season, and god forbid the Sabres MAKE THE PLAYOFFS, he will easily be on this list next year. Surprised Levi didn't get a shout out either when talking about up and coming Canadian goaltenders. UPL-LEVI tandem could shock the league this season with a completely revamped bottom 6 and Lindy bringing the culture back to the bench. I, stupidly, have playoff expectations for Buffalo. PLEASE. 1. Igor 2. Hellebuyck 3. Saros 4. Swayman 5. Bobrovsky 6. Vasilevskiy 7. Demko 8. Sorokin 9. Ullmark 10. Oetter or Binner HM: Markstrom and maybe Freddie Andersen 1 and 2 should be easy, 3 and 4 could be swapped but Saros has played a lot more and been consistent almost every year, Bob gets 5 due to recent playoff play then 6 through 9 are interchangeable (maybe you could say 5-9 are interchangeable, I think respect the guy who just won the cup) and then 10th is Oetter or Binner and Markstrom and Andersen are probably the only two even close to Oetter and Binner.
@@elijahdoesmine9964 I think it depends on the criteria, Binnington last year was way better than Oettinger but the two years before the Oettinger was miles better than Binnington. Also, 2 yrs ago, he had 48 wins, but only 2 shutouts. You would expect 4 or 5 SHO's. Last yr again, just 2 SHO's. Canada's goaltending situation is supremely suspect going into 2025/2026 international competition. Russia and USA are so stacked (not to mention USA has a Tkachuk-Hughes 5-man line) they're really going to struggle. Good for them, though. Speaking of Bucky's "workload" though, he only played 60 games last year. His Round 1 opponent Georgiev played 63. Saros played 64. Last year vasy was 34-22 with a 915 sv % ? This year he had surgery, was bad for a couple months and wad great from January on. Sorokin was healthy and wasn't trusted to start in the playoffs
As a goalie and a die hard Canucks fan I was yelling at the screen so much this video made me so mad Demko deserves better
Spicy conversation, glad to see Luca standing on business on this one
This is my unfiltered take. Didn't watch the video yet and have not read any comments:
10. Markstrom
9. Ullmark
8. Sorokin
7. Saros
6. Swayman
5. Vasileski
4. Demko
3. Ottenger
2. Hellabuyck
1. Shesterkin
I think these are the top ten in the NHL current and in order of who I would want on my team for the 2024-25 season.
Edit: crazy to forget Bob. Lol he would actually be my #2 and would move everyone else back one place.
sorokin top 5
Otteringer is not better than ullmark he had a mediocre season and wasn’t great in the playoffs, he had one good playoff run and that’s it
Oettinger 3rd 💀
Sorokin and Oettinger had basically identical Goals Save Above Expected last year except Sorokin has a better track record, definitely second the motion to remove Luca from the goalie comittee lmao
Connor Ingram will prove himself as Canada's #1, he is seriously underrated.
Honestly for sure. How did he steal that many games for an Arizona team with that roster. So so so impressive to watch. I’ve been high on him since he was on Tampa. Usually picked him up or traded for him on my Chel fantasy teams lolol
Hopefully, Canada needs goalies. Bad.
Honestly I agree with you. He's legit sneaky good, but unfortunately hes not a big name so canada wont ever consider him.
Also man can we talk about the job Oettingers PR team did to turn one and a half good seasons and beating the Calgary flames (lol flames) in the playoffs into having him looked at as a top 5 threat is crazy. Love the guy but man.
Also sorry for all my bitching lol love y’all ❤
luca's most insufferable video by far
Saying something as well
Demko catching strays in this video is crazy, guy carried the team for 3 years while the rest of it was a dumpster fire!
Demko has been a .910% + guy for 4 seasons now, last season was a fluke year with an injury. The only other reason he didn’t play 50 games is because of Markstrom. He’s 6’5, moves unbelievably well, has top 3 technical skill in the league.
Luca must’ve seen the comments abt him being a pushover and hardly ever confidently defending his opinions so now he’s just screaming like a jackass lol. Come on
Voting on the ranks in reverse is certainly a choice…love the list but why not start at #1 and go up from there..would be easier to a lot the goalies
Would definitely make it a more accurate list, I think it’d be less entertaining though
A cool way to do these rankings is to have each of them submit a list and then give each player a score or average ranking to create the cumulative list.
You could score it like
1st - 10pts
2nd - 9pts
……
10th - 1pt
This is to a total of 40pts.
Luca saying Demko has had one good season… cmon even Corwin wouldn’t say that
Luca is actually wild.
IF Jordan Binnington had a consistent defense, I think he should be on here somewhere.
Probably the most feared goalie to go against. Especially if you’re an avs or stars fan!
Binnington's GSA was 5th best in the league last year for goalies with more than half the starts. And that's with that fucking ugly Blues blueline.
Binnington has the mental strength of a 6 year old 😂
@@icysnax4488 Binnington also has a Cup
@@radone97 a cup from 5 years ago has no relevance in this conversation
Love this kind of list video where there is one list, as long as everyone is cordial and kind to one another lol
This right here ^
Absolutely saros slander.
The demko disrespect is crazy and I’m not even a nucks fanboy
My list
1.Demko
2.Shestekin
3. Fluery
4.Swayman
5.Bobrpvsky
6.Hellebuyck
7. Oettinger
8. Sorokin
9. Vasilevskiy
10. Saros
This format is so good, all lists should be a debate
Great Video, as usual, guys
Luca's takes just get worse and worse. This demko hate is ridiculous and shows that he clearly doesnt pay attention to the canucks lmao
Absolutely LOVED the cahos in that vid😂😂
Luca back again w the worst takes known to man, this time he had an accomplice too
Ikr 😂. She’s supposed to discourage him not encourage him. Just validates his outrageousness
Vasy is on the list entirely off of legacy, change my mind
I did not know Luca didnt know puck damn.
Jacob Markstrom playing in front of a depleted flames D core and putting up similar/better numbers to Woll in double the games played, no mention?
UPL does not deserve to be on this list this year but it's nice to see a few people did shout him out. He puts together a full season that looks like what he did in the 2nd half of last season, and god forbid the Sabres MAKE THE PLAYOFFS, he will easily be on this list next year.
Surprised Levi didn't get a shout out either when talking about up and coming Canadian goaltenders. UPL-LEVI tandem could shock the league this season with a completely revamped bottom 6 and Lindy bringing the culture back to the bench. I, stupidly, have playoff expectations for Buffalo. PLEASE. MAKE IT STOP.
Hellebuyk workload (60 games) argument is such a cop out. Saros played 4 more games (64) than him and Bobrovsky played 2 less (58)
Im just happy that they acknowledged joey daccord for once
Preds always getting disrespected.
Same with Canucks. I thought your team was great. Frustrating af.
22:45 Jesse had to recharge his battery.
Loved the video guys, and seeing this and then seeing EA have helly as the #1 goalie in 25 is wild to me
You guys should do this exact video again but put together the top 10 goalies of the 2010’s
Vasy is so hard to rate because last season was obviously impacted by injury and subsequent recovery.
lol luca knows nothing about goaltending so painful to watch
Jesse always has the best takes on these. Guy knows his puck
16:25 having Shesterkin in 3rd is ridiculous
He is far and beyond the best goalie and no one who claims to know anything about hockey would ever put him anything else
Vasi better than shesty is the last thing I’ll mention. She said no goalie could steal a series anymore but two minutes prior she said it’s crazy to thing that vasi couldnt
Luca I am a Carolina fan and I have no idea why anyone would put Freddie at no. 8 after that playoff performance.
just because canucks had some rough years doesn't mean Demko's only had 1 good year! he's a GOOD goalie and shouldn't be considered bad because of the team in previous years... this coming from a canucks fan lol.... he does have to figure his rare injury out though!
My list
1 shesterkin
2 hellebuyck
3 Demko
4 Swayman
5 Bobrovsky
6 Vasilevsky
7 Sorokin
8 Saros
9 Oettinger
10 Ullmark
1. Igor
2. Hellebuyck
3. Saros
4. Swayman
5. Bobrovsky
6. Vasilevskiy
7. Demko
8. Sorokin
9. Ullmark
10. Oetter or Binner
HM: Markstrom and maybe Freddie Andersen
1 and 2 should be easy, 3 and 4 could be swapped but Saros has played a lot more and been consistent almost every year, Bob gets 5 due to recent playoff play then 6 through 9 are interchangeable (maybe you could say 5-9 are interchangeable, I think respect the guy who just won the cup) and then 10th is Oetter or Binner and Markstrom and Andersen are probably the only two even close to Oetter and Binner.
Binnington deserves #10
@@elijahdoesmine9964 I think it depends on the criteria, Binnington last year was way better than Oettinger but the two years before the Oettinger was miles better than Binnington. I would lean Oettinger just because of consistency but if you want to put more stock into just last season then Binnington is fair to put at 10th.
1.Shesterk
2.Helleyb
3.Saros
4.Bobrovsk
5.Sorok
6.Vasilevsk
7.Swaymn
8.Demk
9.Otteingr
10.Binningt
Just missed: Lukkonen, Ullmrk, Kotchetk, Georgie, Skinnr, Montembeau, Markstr, Lindgrn
@@mannyoliveira776 Ullmark has been below a .915 one time and it was his first year not being a backup and he still had a .905, and he's won a vezina two years ago where he went 40-6-1 with a .938 and 1.89 GSAx, he's 9th at bare minimum. I also think Swayman moves up a bit but having him anywhere between 4th and 8th is fine imo. List is good but you gotta have Ullmark ninth at bare minimum and push Binner off the list, Binnington was great last year but two bad years before that whereas Ullmark has legitimately never had a bad season and his best season two years ago is way better than any season from some of those guys included.
@@sully_99
11.Georg
12.Markstr
13.Ullmrk
14.Skinnr
15.Lukkonen
Ullmrk had 1 superb yr yes but he was 2nd fiddle last yr in Bos, & if he was so good as you claim then Bos would have extended him 7 or 8 yrs & traded Swaymn. But Swaymn is likely the better goalie & younger. Don't get me wrong I like Ullmrk & if someone had him 8th, 9th or 10th their would not be too much contention. But I think if he excels in Ottawa as a starter again & plays like 55 games, & gets a 2.60-2.70 GAA & .915 or better SV% then I would revise my list & he would be in the Top 10. Also, 2 yrs ago, he had 48 wins, but only 2 shutouts. You would expect 4 or 5 SHO's. Last yr again, just 2 SHO's. The Top 10 is hard to pick just 10 because you end up leaving out 4 or 5 goalies who have a case to slip into the Top 10.
I see the Binnington hate is still a thing lol
Hes top 15 at best
1. Helle
2. Shesterken
3. Swayman
4. Bob
5. Demko
6. Sarod
7. Sorokin
8. Vassy
9. Oettinger
10. Ullmark
If you factor in the D in front of these guys Helly's stock goes way up. The one post season where he looked good was the one time Winnipeg actually had a compitent D-core with no AHLers.
He has a brick wall in morrissey though.
Great you finally did a goalie video now do a quiz on every teams win leader
Dude the demko hate makes no sense. If we’re talking about going into this season I would take demko over vasi and saros
Im a Leafs fan, and I love Josph Woll, but I still think he should be in the top 15 ❤
Not saying it's not a lot, but the Central has 6 of the top 10 most played/started goalies in the NHL.
The fact that Skinner didn’t make the list is crazy to me. The guy was pretty good in the playoffs and season the last few years.
Man... Saros had a down year, sure, but he's had such fire seasons and been an absolute rock for a few years now.
As a Canucks fan, I would never take Saros over Demko, but in terms of looking at recent careers, I'd rank Saros above him right now.
It’s often overlooked the effects on access to sports for kids. Goalie equipment is so expensive, Canada’s cost of living has skyrocketed.
Guess what parents are choosing for their kids to play?
So true. My brother was playing two years above his age level bc there just aren’t any goalies. I bet you could also guess why he stopped. How many people can afford equipment, travel, and all the other expenses ? It’s unbelievable. No wonder every other sport is more popular when it costs thousands of dollars that people just don’t have
Backup goalies as a quiz:
Who Backed up Vasy in his first cup
Who currently backs up in Ottawa.
Who was won 3 cups as a backup
Can you back back back it up?
Oh but I want y’all to do it as an episode and those are just ideas for questions 😄🤦♂️
Can you guys do top 10 greatest goalies of all time
I’m a goalie and when Luca said he hates goalie I got more mad than he did
As a jets fan I don’t know why the jets didn’t play brossoit more. He played great in the games he played reg season and could’ve saved some juice for helle in the playoffs
Man the Ullmark stuff makes me sad, I still think letting him walk will be one of the biggest mistakes in recent bruins history
Binnington snubbed. Top 3 GSAx last season & the only reason the Blues were close to an playoff spot
Charlie will be insane in a couple years these out standing now I as a caps fan need more
If Dallas had a Varlamov behind Oetter, he would've been benched last year too.
Oettinger at nine is crazy. Without a doubt, he is within the top 5 or 6.
Sleeper pick: Petr Mrazek. He was so nice
Stu Skinner is the moat Underrated Goalie in the league
Demko at 5 is fair. I think people hate on him to much. If he had been able to stay healthy, and play in the playoffs. He probably wins the Vezina. And gets put at 3 or even 2. Even though health isn't technically a stat i still think it matters. There is no debating Demko is nothing short of outstanding when hes playing in top form and health. I think health is even more important to take into account when ranking goalies vs players.
Putting vasi outside the top 5 is lunacy, especially given the alternatives. Obviously Helle and Shesterkin are going to occupy 2 of the top 3 at least, but after that there's really no clear front runners.
