I think he really took some time off as he admitted in the interview. Not that he was idle, sure worked on his fitness, just not playing much tennis. He's hoping to catch fire as the tournament gets under way.
It looks like the idea is that it builds up momentum as it turns one way, then your muscles need to work against that momentum to stop it and start it in the other direction again. So, strengthening the rotation in your wrist/arm/shoulder.
Such a good exhibition match. Great practice for both. Carlitos seemed a bit off his game though 🥺 he doesn’t usually make that many mistakes 😅 Also, love their friendship but I hated the interviewer she asked inappropriate questions and said inappropriate things that made them both uncomfortable. Carlos’s instincts aren’t that strong when gauging what his opponents can do. The risk he takes in bulldozing causes him to lose matches and make so many mistakes. He also mentally wears down when he plays long rallies. As players get better, this is how they can force mistakes from Carlos because he just wants to win it sooner. Hard to change this mindset. You need help from your opponent in today’s tennis. Still a great player and a champion
Completely agree. The amount of unforced errors he makes is insane for someone in Top 5. He needs to come out of exhibition mode (of entertaining crowd).

Carlos is looking like he'll win the AO and complete the grand slam here sooner or later, whether here in 2 weeks or in the years down the road. He still has plenty of room for growth, that's the scary part. As for Alex, I don't know if he can win a slam in the future but he's come along strong enough to at least reach a slam final. It could well be here at Melbourne in the near future. He just has to remain healthy and fit.
Coaching in a professional match should not be allowed ie all the majors and ATP tours in exhibition fine. But no Coaching, Federer never used it and oh remember he did not have a coach, that is Federer for four years of his professional career.

What Coco is doing is for shoulder stability and wrist mobility. The stick exercise Muchova is doing is for core activation and strength.
It looks like the idea is that it builds up momentum as it turns one way, then your muscles need to work against that momentum to stop it and start it in the other direction again. So, strengthening the rotation in your wrist/arm/shoulder.
