Apart from Talking to the Moon, MC has covered Afterglow, Cries in a Distance, I’m not the only one etc and all of them are great! He moved to Canada from Hong Kong after primary school so we shouldn’t be surprised that his English is not as native as Jay Fung. Btw, I love Jay Fung too.
Here's some info for you guys - Jay and MC were both born in HK. The difference is Jay moved to Canada at age 1 and grew up there. He moved back to HK at age 23 to participate in a TV singing competition and came second. He was then signed to a record label and started his singing career in HK. It has taken HK audience a long time to accept him because his Cantonese was not very good back then, and he had a more "western vibe". MC on the other hand moved to Canada to study high school. When completed, he returned to HK, worked odd jobs and did busking for a few years. He then participated in a TV talent show and came second. A year after that he was signed to Warner HK and the rest is history. Many HK audience love his for his voice, tone and "bad boy" image/vibe. He is able to speak Cantonese like a local and speak (and sing) very good English. Here's the Cantonese version《反對無效》sung by Jay Fung and Jace Chan: ruclips.net/video/TBToV3NQx4g/видео.html
Hins Cheung is one of the most well-known and popular singers in HK, and more popular than ever now (safe to say he is the king of cantopop after eason)😆 please do an episode on him, I am sure you will be surprised by the things he is capable of, his live performances are so stable and moving. Think you can already spend a whole episode just to talk about 酷愛, coz he always has different arrangements when performing this in his concerts, each so unique and stunning in its own way🤩 and of course many of his songs are such a hit as well😝
Thanks for this channel, now I realised why MC got a big boom to the Canton Pop industry and why Jay Fung not hitting the mainstream at first (I just thought his old agency didn't write him a right song)
Today it’s my first time watching this channel and Rozette did a very good job at commenting and the bloke talking to Rozette sings 給我一首歌的時間 in different ways and made things really clear!!! Well done!

Jay Fung is underrated… luckily he’s gained more popularity in recent years… This video is a really good analysis how the pronunciation in different languages would greatly change the style of singing. I enjoyed this video. And I think Hins was exaggerating at his concert, probably because he was singing with the original signer MC. He is less “choppy” and more passionate and smooth when he sings his own songs
Please Please Please do more reviews on 張敬軒!!! As one of his fans and the 90s generation, I can say he is the most skillful singer and songwriter in this generation in Hong Kong!! He is such a wholehearted person that almost every Hong Kong people admire!! I really didn't hear any criticism of him before besides some gossip.
I think Jay Fung can balance between singing smoothly and Cantonese - love him and his songs! perhaps you guys might want to listen to Gareth. T, who in my opinion is also blending his R&B style into Canto pop - his style is more like Jay Chou but in Cantonese His way of singing in Cantonese also invited criticism
I've been saying in other video. JayChou is truly something. When he first debut he was heavily criticised for his mumbling singing. So much so, I kid you not, some reviews gave him something like a 2/10 kind of score, and said they were shock how bad his singing is. He was really ahead of his time, but his songs were cool especially the earlier albums, so people, younger people didn't really mind. Also people start saying after the fact that maybe it was a good thing to mumble because it forces the listeners to read his lyrics. But with regards to rosette talking about the vowels, it's still not exactly the same, I think to her, it sounds better if the vowel is more open. The example JKai give on the pronunciation of the word of southern or something accent, is a gross exaggeration, not of the accent but I mean in terms of picking the accent that differs a lot than jaychou. Jaychou is Taiwanese, they are in general more soft in compared to what people usually have an idea of how mainlander accent is, but jay chou took it a step further. But honestly to me, the way jaychou sort of mumble, to me was felt like it was trying to be cool, because his whole image at the beginning was kind of shy and almost mysterious cool guy and it kind of fit that image that he has. But the way rosette said what she would like to hear from Chinese songs, I think is more about what she's accustomed to. JayChou's singing fit his laid back mixed rnb style, but when he sings more Chinese style or does cover he enunciate and pronounce the words a lot clearer. Also similarly to the way she says vocal technique are tools, the reason JayChou gets away with it is because he can sing normally and pronounce his words clearly but choose not to, its artistic decision. A western singer singing mandarin songs, not pronouncing the words clearly, might sound more comfortable to her ears, but it just sounds like someone who doesn't know what the words to the lyrics are. But I have to say, it's true about the singing along part, I think part of why Jaychou was so popular is because his lyrics are easy to sing along to. I mean we don't know the words to it without reading the lyrics, but we can sort of mumble and sing a long, and it still would've been enjoyable. Ive mentioned this in other videos, if the singer sings clearly and you dont quite catch what they're singing and try to sing along, its not as satisfying when you know clearly youre singing the wrong word, but with jay chou song, it can feel like youre doing it when your really not, you just have to catch the certain inflection of words that are more pronounced. I honestly have never had a similar experience with any other songs of any other language. Although I have to mention, the part where she talks about English singers, changing some of the vowel like the "e" in "me", Chinese singers also do that, but also to the extent that they know the listener would understand it still. Like the word "shuo" can become more "shuoa" so it ends with a more open vowel etc. But it's not really for a lot of words, because ultimately its the same everywhere, you want to hear what they are singing, for most type of songs. I doubt there's a pop song in the west where the pronunciation are as mumbled in English as jaychou is in mandarin.
I wanted to say THIS VIDEO really recall me how much I love music at the very beginning ! Yes its not music video nor a singing contest but exactly this kind of video where the coach interpret in a professional way dissect into music singing skill Labrador and whatsoever , this is excited me and remind me I love singing I love music in the young days. OMG I’m gonna cry.😂 this is my passion You know this is very professional if you are really into music / singing , this is informative this is interesting oh this can be learning like this or like that , this is knowledge. Interpreting from HK singer (I’m Malaysian) , Jay Fung , to MC , to Jay Chou , I know all of them . Talking from a westernise or we called them ABC , Jay Fung who I know him started in Chinese Idol , to MC Cheung who I knew him lately a new generation talented young guy who make it to his first official big concert by only within his first two year since debuted, a gen Z talented singer who intrigued me lately , to the Jay Chou , I meant my generation , talking about how his vocal doesn’t sounds the standard Chinese vocal interpretation where usually u don’t understand a word from his song , how he is being criticised in the beginning of his career until he make it big . This is all , I meant this talk is all what’s about and interesting and what’s really excite me - Music . Sing . So so much thanks for the video u made and especially I realize I like the conversation between the vocal coach woman and the other 2 off screen , I find it rather boring when some of the video recorded by the vocal coach alone in the video . The conversation between u guys are the most exciting part discussing / fighting each other opinions on a song / singer .im gonna cry again 😂😂😂
English is Jay’s mother tongue for sure. Even he has moved back to Hong Kong these years, his Cantonese has much improved but he still cannot read Chinese characters
I would like to recommend Hins Cheung’s or any Hin’s recent concert live videos which show how Jay and Hin sing tgt and the differences between their styles 👍🏻👍🏻
Great discussion on music and language. Suggest you guys to do a review on Butterfly, which was co-written by MC and two other guys, and blends Cantonese, English and Mandarin into one song.
This is a great video! Jay Fung is West Coast casual RnB style. Yes Kudos to JK who has pointed out that Cantonese 's enounciation has made it sound choppy and difficult to sing tthe language silky smooth, sadly. Lastly Jay Chou has his own language Jaydarin , haha, people always sacarstically said he is chanting buddha hymns. Thus is indeed a very enjoyable and informative reaction! Bravo and more Cantopop reaction please. Christopher Wong is ma fav and how come you never react to gor gor, the late Leslie Cheung?

Great discussion on music and language. Suggest you guys to do a review on Butterfly, which was co-written by MC and two other guys, and blends Cantonese, English and Mandarin into one song.
很喜歡後半
有繁體字幕就好啦!
想看老師對閩南語歌的看法,家後這首歌很多人唱過,周深也唱過,希望能看到這首歌的比較!
Should let her do a critique of 思念即地獄 as this song is so western
MC❤❤❤
可以點評一下Jay Fung的Days, they’ve gone too soon嗎,順帶一提Jay作的歌曲都是先有英語版demo然後才加上粵語詞,這一個特點讓他的作品充滿個人特色

千里之外, a perfect example to demostrate the discussed topic
希望老師可以聽一下張敬軒的《 騷靈情歌》
mc❤
