  • So this is really the first legit tour and semi-review i have of this car on this channel. This is my family's 2012 Honda Pilot, and in this video i go through how the car has held up, what makes this car such a sales success, and show you all around. i will note i did leave out the towing specifications, but they are around 4600 for 4 wheel drive models which include a power steering cooler, transmission cooler, and brake booster with brake controller hookups. this car is used exactly as advertised and can pull a 1,000 pound jetski like its not even back there. And for those curious about the dog, she likes cars. Thanks for watching!

Hadn't used the 4x4 in my same model until this winter. Thanks God I got the 4x4!! I have the 4x4 Touring and when it comes to snow it performs awesome. NO CHAINS needed again! And I have been through some hairy storms. It worked like a champ and I passed a Ford Explorer getting unstuck as I cruised around them (as they moved forward and backward to get unstuck, plus just being longer can be an issue for them). Lake Tahoe can get pretty messy with snow and this Pilot worked like a champ. Went over Donner summit a month later at 7000 ft, and hit another snow storm, and again it plowed through without an issue as everyone pulled over to chain up. Pilot on!

I bought a 12 Pilot exl for my daughter and as a winter vehicle for myself a little over a year ago. It had 127k on the odom and I only bought it with that much mileage because of Honda’s rep for reliability. With that being said I ended up replacing the vsa module (1300$ just for the part, a cat that cost me 1700$, and a pulley). I was really disappointed because I’ve had gm’s my whole life with my Pontiac bonne having 258k when I sold it and I never had to do any major repairs while I had it. Had a Honda guy on RUclips damn there ready to meet me for a fight when I debated the quality of a Honda...true story. Took me 2 weeks to get an appointment because surprisingly other people had their Honda’s in for repairs but anyway, the car does run extremely well now. It’s definitely a nice suv. Just be prepared with ANY car that has high mileage that you may have to put some money into it.
Since this is a review for a 8/9 year old car and someone maybe watching this thinking about buying this specific year I’d say check the Carfax and see what major repairs haven’t or have been done to the vehicle before you buy. It could save you or cost you some money in the long run.
That dog is ready to roll.

In general, any GM vehicle will fail 10 times before a Honda/Toyota will, but they're not perfect. You say high mileage, but 127K miles is like nothing for a V6 J series. It seems you just had bad luck because that honda reputation of legendary reliability, is there for a reason. Hondas and Toyotas WELL maintained and taken care of, won't have major issues for 250k+ miles. Plenty of cars from these two out there prove it.

I have a 09 Pilot with 78k Running great. I only get around 17.3 MPG.
Nice review, may have to upgrade to 2012 or newer for better MPG.
    I really like Sequoia 4x4 5.7 381 HP 401 FPT, but 15 MPG.

nav is a 3,000 dollar option and we never even use it because we travel so much. not to mention the system usually gets dated within 2 years, and at the time when getting this car it was an "oh shit" time because the van unexpectedly died before we were expecting and we wouldve had to wait for navigation, which wouldve been too long as we already had to wait for this to come off the truck. and no, VCM isnt noticeable, the only thing that even tells you its active is the ECO light.power is smooth

    First of all, great review.
Second, last Thursday we test drove a 2013 Touring in White Diamond w/blk interior. We liked it a lot actually, and you can't deny 3000 under invoice! My dad almost legit traded our Odyssey in, but the trade was just not worth it. So we're going to keep it and trade it in for an MDX in 2 years.

Nice 3rd gen Pilot your family owns:) I love 2nd gens 2009-2011 and 3rd gens 2012-2015 They have the best look ever:) My favorite is 2nd gen due to the perfect interior and exterior (3rd gen has similar exterior with only change of the front) So yeah hope this pilot never die:) Also did you take it on some off road im not asking about snow because its easy for 4WD pilots :/ but did u take it on sand? I hope your family never change this pilot since these are the best ones:)

How come you guys didn't go for the EX-L 4WD with NAVI? You guys always seem to be going on road trips, so I would think it would make sense to go with the model with NAVI instead of a portable one. Also, is VCM noticeable on the highway?

i thought about it, but it depends. if i did that it would have to be all of the dome lights or it would look retarded, and it cant be a really dark shade of blue because the black carpets suck it up. for now whats in there is more then fine.
