Pro tip, Use a sprinter van VIN to get a low insurance quote, then activate/age your Motor Carrier authority for 90 days paying that low premium. Search for that Box truck in the mean time then add it to your insurance. Premium will then rise to cover your Box Truck. At the 90 day mark Brokers will be willing to work with you and you'll make enough dollars 💵 to cover your operating expenses

Hat off to Mr. Trapp. He runs his business like a pro period. Many box truck drivers trying to save money by sleeping in their own trucks which is a huge DOT violation especially if a State Trooper ask you for a hotel receipt and you can't provide any. You will be forced to shutdown for 11 hours which will dent your company safety rating. A few more of those, you won't be able to get any loads because every broker will turn you down. Being in compliance with the DOT is the key to your business. One more advice on the top of what Mr. Trapp said is to have a folder in your truck with five clear pocket sleeves carrying the following :
1- A copy for your Authoriy
    2- Truck Registration
3- A copy of your Certificate of Insurance
    4- Driver Mediical card
    5- Bill of Laden
So, if you get pulled over in a wieght station. Trust me, the officer will appreciate you if you hand him/her that folder. My two cents.

Diesel mechanic/technician by trade. Just my .02, but I'd get started in an older pre-emission truck. The after treatment system can be VERY costly. There are some great young mechanics out there, but there are also a lot who really don't do well with after treatment issues.
International DT engines are some of the best midrange diesels ever built.

My advice to anybody considering a box truck is to check the load boards because it isn't a lot of freight for box trucks. You can do good around CHRISTMAS but other than I don't think so. Another thing is all markets aren't good for BOX TRUCKS. The east and north coast and CALI are probably good but in TEXAS it's so many BOX TRUCKS you would starve!

What about renting something like a Uhaul? Im wondering if there are ways to get into this with LOW start up money?

Hello guys. I'm based out of New Jersey & I'm looking into getting into the trucking industry & have a few questions. All information would be greatly appreciated.
    1) On initial start up costs, aside from:
    a) creating LLC
    b) obtaining a Dot/MC#
    c) obtaining a Boc-3 #,
    d) obtaining UCR
    e) dot decals [do i need if I'm renting?]
    f) ELD/Logbook what other costs are there?
    g) truck
    h) insurance
    2) Why would an owner or owner/operator choose to pay a dispatcher to find loads, when they could sign up to any or all of the load boards and do it themselves?
    3) Why would an owner or owner/operator hire a factoring company.
    Pros & cons, please.
    4) If I wanted to solely be an owner, a) how much is expected to pay a driver, b) how/where would I find a dependable & honest driver, c) what must I look out for when I hire a driver.
Once again, thanks to all who contribute to building wealth. Thanks!

I differ brother. Yes, self driving vehicles are coming, but they're a long way off. All electric vehicles has to hit first, and we're not even half way in with that as yet.

Hell..You Guy's seem to NOT be able to get as Many Loads without a Dispatcher in Play somehow so their WORTH to the Transportation Industry isn't going ANYWHERE!!! Nice!

@@getatum1914 I wouldn’t say it is hard but definitely is challenging. I prefer being a driver over dispatch because that works for me . Dispatching is convenient when you have kids & other businesses. But as a former dispatcher I rather drive because you will find drivers that wants to pay you under 10% … they don’t understand the back office work & expenses you have to cover as being a dispatcher… on top of negotiating the best rates so their overhead is covered before paying me … you’ll find pros & cons but choose what works for you.

Im in California. Omg, they make it impossible to start up a business. You need so much licensing. For the license, for example, MCP “motor carrier permit”
(Not mc) you need insurance just to get this permit to deliver freight in California. Then you have to wait 30-90 days for them to approve you. So basically, you need a truck to get insurance. So you’ll have a truck and insurance and you cant work for 30-90 days unless you have your mc to do interstate. Also a lot of insurance companies dont insure start ups. They want you to have a year authority. I found one. Its like 17k a year, 3700 down and i have a perfect driving record, crazy.

Driving to a job 5-6 days a week, 45 minute to an hour each way till you're old, then they replace you. Then you get crap for social security and have to use that money for healthcare. You should be asking yourself, how is that profitable.
