How many liters of ATF uses one 01m transmission? (complete rebuilding case). 3. Do you buy used parts for 01m transmissions? Best Regards.

    Whats a fair price for the repair you did on the 2007 Cooper Timing Change job. My code checker is just a cheap FixD so I dont get the adaptation readings like you do. I do have same ODBII errors, and shop I took the cooper too said they believe the VANOS was too blame. I was going to just replace the VANOS exh and intake and hope for the best. Also second question, is there a tester out there that isnt super expensive that will give me the adaptation numbers?

  • @KirkReed
    @KirkReed 3 года назад +1

    I learned that I may need an Vanos adaptation. Never knew about it.
    Background:
    My problem: P00BD code says Mass Air Flow sensor bad. it's not. Replaced it twice. Mini dealer can't figure it out having it 7 days. I rebuilt this motor myself, replacing almost everything. Bought it with a blown head gasket, so Antifreeze and oil mixed into a sludge causing the overheating. The previous owner kept driving it until it would not start again...
    Anyway, after 5000 miles of driving it in 9 months, Engine light comes on most of the time. Seems to trip it within 2 minutes of driving. When first starting, it has a slight erratic idle (Vanos?). What leads me to believe it's Vanos, is another Mini dealership/repair RUclipsr said his Vanos solenoid caused the P00BD code along with Vanos codes. That got me to questioning the Vanos.
    Although it drives really good, it has a slight erratic behavior at 2900 rpm and very slight load on engine, like it can't set the proper timing for the condition? My son who is an ASE (?) mechanic showed me on his autel (?) that the Short Term Fuel Trim was erratic, essentially shutting off fuel very quickly and then turning it back on at the 2900 rpm erratic part. Almost feels like a miss-fire, but it's not. It's the Fuel trim shutting off quickly.
    I do have 0.5mm larger pistons due to out of round cylinders, Head was reworked at reputable shop that did my short block with pistons. I was thinking Mass Air Flow Sensor registered more air because of larger pistons, but I don't think that's it because of seeing timing issues can give P00BD.
    I swapped the solenoids. No difference.
    I will ask my son to see if he can do the Vanos recalibration.
    Question:
    Since my oil and anti-freeze mixed into a sludge, could something in the Vanos system have become sludged up and needs to be cleaned preventing Vanos from operating at peak performance?? I cleaned and checked the solenoids and they operate snappy with power applied.
    Thanks for teaching me about Vanos recalibration. I hope my son can get help me with actual usable numbers to see if it's in limits. I'm subscribing to your channel.

    • @CoolAirVw
      @CoolAirVw  3 года назад

      Sorry, but I think your questions self evident. Of course if its full of crap it might work like crap. But all you need to tell is run the adaptation and it will give you the numbers.

I purchased a Foxwell NT510 Elite for $138 (ordered through Foxwell online), did the Vanos Adaptation to clear and relearn the Vanos advance and retard values. The check Engine light went off the next drive cycle, and stayed off the drive cycle. I will reply back with whether it stays off after a week or more. Erratic idle seemed better when cold, but mine was only slightly erratic for about 5 -7 seconds, then smoothed out when starting. I'll report back in a week or so to see if this fixes it!!! Hi, I have the snap-on solus edge scan tool that doesn’t support the features your Autel unit does. I need to upgrade but not sure which scanner to get that will provide data I need to diagnose 2015 Paceman with vanos issues. Getting that degree data after recal would be great! Nice feature for sure. Thx for this great video.

    • @CoolAirVw
      @CoolAirVw  3 года назад

      I dont know which scanner for sure, especially on a 2015 but Autel seems to do a good job with on mini and BMW and most other makes also. Some folks call it 'Aweful-tell" here on youtube, but its beat out snap on for mini's for sure.

    • @anthonyttoigo
      @anthonyttoigo 3 года назад +1

      Thanks for your response. My friend has the new Zurich android device. We ran it through the recalibration but it only displays what seems like a default for the intake and exhaust cam timing degrees of 65535.
      Doesn’t make sense, but my thinking is that it’s not recording or picking up the actual degrees for each cam.
      My customer friend drove the car to Portland from Bend Oregon and the CEL didn’t trigger for about 85 miles. Seems more intermittent.
      I was wondering which Autel unit you use, which one you used for this video because that device seems to do a great job reading the actual data.
      Also, so far, I’ve replaced both vanos solenoids as the customer drove about 12,000 miles between oil changes and my first concern was that he varnished them up pretty well. Research and lacking experience with this product lead me in that direction at first.
      There are cam phasers on both cams on this turbocharged model. The issue seems to be with the intake, but I’m wondering if maybe it’s a phaser issue?
      The engine has less than 36k miles. I’ve changed the oil twice using the castrol edge 5-30, but, before, I think he was going to an oil change place, they typically don’t use the correct oil in my experience. I’ve seen firsthand how that can damage vvt systems on say the eurovans.
      I’m hoping to get more data feedback before beginning a mechanical teardown and exploratory. I’m not one to throw parts at a repair at a customers expense. Solenoids could be part of the issue but maybe an incorrect recommendation in hindsight, so I’m trying to avoid that any further by zeroing in on this issue.
      Any insights are greatly appreciated.

      Run the adaptation with a compatible scan tool and see if the numbers are in specification. If they are off on just one side (intake or exhaust) then you can swap the vanos solenoids, to identifiy if its a stuck solenoid. If the numbers are off on both sides then you most likely need timing chain work. There are other issues that it could be also but that would be beyond the scope of what I can advise you of in a "youtube comment".
